They have 6 eyes and they’re ‘back finger’ is an opposable thumb. Some Kylaat’s have wings like this, which are more bat-like and have no feathers. Other Kylaat’s do have feathered wings, but the feathers are more like the birds on Earth that can’t fly and are ‘furry’ rather than traditional feathers.

Kylaat’s originally didn’t breathe oxygen, although it was present in Orn’s atmosphere. They have the ability to breathe pretty much any gas that’s most plentiful in an atmosphere. Now they’re on Earth they do breathe oxygen, but something about it gives them the inability to sleep so they constantly stay awake. This ability was used as a form of attack by Mestraal during the war on Orn, when he ordered the army under his command to start using what little oxygen was in the air to breathe, and they attacked the opposing army base while they slept.

Just by looking at them you would assume that Kylaat’s only have one mouth, but in fact they have three. The other two are located further back in their throat, and they can move and speak with all three independently. Because of the spell put on them when they came to Earth to make them appear like angels and have a more human anatomy, these extra mouths have been removed. This is why Hestron sometimes complains about the lack of depth in human languages, and often gets irritated when he has to ‘dumb down’ a Kylaat word so it makes sense and can be spoken by a human mouth and vocal range. Specifically when he introduces himself to new people, he makes a point of stating that his true name is much more complicated than just “Hestron”, but humans are unable to speak it. Because of how many sounds Kylaat’s can produce it was agreed very early on in their settling on Orn that they only speak one language, otherwise the amount of different languages that may have occurred over the course of time would have been immense. Despite this rule there are still variations in language when Kylaat’s speak in their original form, but none so vast that it could be thought of as separate languages.

Female Kylaat’s are physically unable to carry more than one child, even though sometimes they produce two embryos in the womb. This leads to the embryos trying to join in the womb and become just one. Sometimes the joining doesn’t line up perfectly though, and this causes birth defects like the one Parwine has. In his case all of his body is perfectly fine except his wings, which are partially deformed and stop him from flying properly. In bad cases the baby is so deformed that it dies very soon after birth, although it’s extremely rare for this to happen and a lot more common to have problems with just the wings.

Orn is not the original home of the Kylaat’s, and their sacred texts and main religion centre around finding their true home planet. Where they actually come from and why they ever left is unknown to them due to time and a loss of documentation, and even though Kylaat’s live for hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of years, no living Kylaat knows anything about it. There’s a joke among them claiming that their ancestors lived before the creation of the Universe (before the big bang), although in all seriousness they have no idea if this is false or not.

what are your aliens called again, and how do you pronounce it? it's a funny name

lol they're called Kylaats, it's pronounced like 'key-lat'

I keep meaning to draw them again, I've made some tweaks to their design again. Basically they look like big owls in the body, covered in feathers (which are most commonly brown or a shade of grey) with wings and with bird-like back legs and feet. They have long necks and sort of humanesque shoulders, also covered in feathers, and humanesque hands so they can grip stuff and all that good stuff. But they have human faces, instead of hair it's more feathers. And big fox like ears, two on each side. They have extra features though - four eyes and two mouths. When they speak it sounds like two people speaking at once in slightly different tones, they can make a massive range of sounds compared to humans. Their planet had a cold climate, hence the feathers.

Hestron has a common feather colour, brown, except they have red tips. Parwine has blue feathers, which comes with his wing deformity and is sort of a mutation (like blonde hair and blue eyes in humans), and Mestraal has pearlescent feathers, which are quite rare and he got them from his mum, she had them too.

Their eyes are either yellow or red, depending on whether they have power over fire or lightning, but they all have different levels of powers. The Elder of their people has blue eyes. And all Kylaat's have varying desgrees of healing powers - except Parwine, he doesn't have any powers and that again comes with his deformity.

Adding to my lil' flock of angels, there is now Parwine, who is Hestron's partner, and the only disfigured Kylaat left alive after the war. In the same way Mestraal is obsessed with card tricks and human magic, Parwine is obsessed with human clothing, both men's and women's. He isn't gender fluid but he is extremely androgynous in appearance. This is due to the same disfigurment that left him with 4 wings instead of just 2, two being in a normal position for an angel and then another two smaller, underdeveloped wings under those, which have fused onto the bigger ones to create a butterfly wing-like shape, but feathered. All other Kylaat's like him were killed in the war, due to racism against people like him. His appearance is caused by his mother's body trying to carry twins, but Kylaat's physically cannot bear two children at once, so the two children become one in the womb. The joining is hardly ever perfect, and left Parwine with two sets of wings and both a male and female appearance. But he's a little cutie. I love him already.
