The number of people who've followed me for ATLA content alone is wild. Anyway, I wanted to keep up with just updates and all since I'm having a couple of life upheavals and I'm trying to weave in actually finishing stuff.
So, for my TOKO/ZUTOPH people -
there's no palace (or heart) a beifong can't get through is going to be seeing an update fairly soon. I have a tough time with writing smut and I'm learning how to do it while writing it, so please bear with me.
girls born of fire and earth (let the wind feed you, the world knows your worth) will also be having an update within the next 2-3 days, I wanted to include the entire family in the next one if possible but there's also plot/description that I gotta weave in there because that's juts who I am.
let's share a hundred life-changing moments (and if you don't mind, the rest of our lives too) saw a recent stall in chapters because I had a couple things happen in the last two days, so expect a triple-hitter likely today if I can manage it.
clear the board, the fire lord is mine has been knocking at my door for awhile, I'm currently planning the upcoming chapter and considering the inciting incident. Also, fun fact, Suki will be appearing cause we love ourselves some Suki in the house.
Now, for my KATAANG folks:
grown men become boys when in love will be starting semi-regular updates this upcoming week, I'm going to pick a day or two out of the week that will be solely for this fic. Please stay tuned for that.
Lastly, the time travel AU with KYZUMI was released yesterday and it's called water in the spring river as green as indigo! Please cheer me on cause as always, I've got nothing for any of this but vibes and whatever is going on in my brain.
As per the rough outline of events planned for this blog this year, we’ll be hosting a femslash-centric weekend in the month of June, from the 12th to the 14th.
This event will be Legend of Korra focused, which means any ships should center around female characters that appear in Legend of Korra Books 1 to 4. The characters are also not limited to the ones in the image above.
A femslash ship here is defined here as a relationship of two persons or more canonically identifying as female in the show. This means MtF trans headcanons are allowed, but genderswapping a canonically male character into a female character is not allowed. Eg, MtF!Kuvira is fine, girl!Mako is not.
Shipping characters such as Jinora, Ikki and others who might be underage in the show is allowed, but they should be 18+ in anything featuring sexual content.
NSFW works are allowed, but NSFW art should be hosted off-tumblr. Appropriate tags and warnings must be used if required. See rules for more information.
Love Is Blind (To All But Toph Beifong, That Is) - Pt 1
Zuko, blinks slowly: “Hang on. You mean Izumi and Kya are..”
Toph, sipping her tea: “Yep.”
Zuko: “Since when?!” (He turns to Aang and Katara, the former who is thinking deeply while the latter just looks as flustered as him.)
Toph, snorts: “Seriously? The whole time. Maybe not right away, but Snowflake’s definitely got a type.”
Katara: “She does not.”
Toph, eyebrow raises: “Trust me, she does. Every friend she brings around has the same three traits. Tall, dark, beautiful.”
Katara: “What does that even mean?”
Toph: “Coming from the lady who heard her husband would be a powerful bender and set her sights on the Avatar? It means she’s already got her mind made up.”
Katara: “Who told you about—“ (She clenched her fist and hissed ‘Sokka’ with enough iciness that Aang almost feared for his brother-in-law.)
Toph: “It’s amazing how blind you all can be to whatever’s in front of you. And that’s coming from me, the actual blind one. Sugar Queen, Sparky, you two are the worst.”
Katara: “What?”
Toph: “It’s so easy to get you to back off or backdown.”
Katara: (Her eyes narrowed.) “Wanna bet?”
Aang: (Interjecting to keep the peace and because he’s curious) “To be fair, I knew Katara was the one for me the moment she pulled me from the ice.”
Katara: “And I want to know how I could possibly be dense when it took you both ages to be together.”
Zuko: “That’s not true.”
Toph: “Yeah, it took ages to get the stick out of his ass. Give credit. And Sugar Queen, you’re too focused on proving yourself. Aang just admitted he loved you from the moment you met.”
Katara: “I—“ (She looks at Aang who smiled at her sheepishly, urging her to go on. She doesn’t, taking his hand under the table with a squeeze that makes him smile.)
Zuko: “But what does this have to do with Izumi and Kya?”
Toph: “It means that once again, I’m the greatest—“
Zuko: “Toph.”
Toph: “.. You can’t protect her from heartbreak just because you’re worried it may come, Zuko.”
Aang & Katara: (tensed up, shared a glance)
Zuko: “That isn’t— She’s only sixteen.”
Toph: “And she won’t be getting any younger. You want real facts? Our girl has your fire ox stubbornness, and my take no prisoner determination. She might get turned down, she might not. But they were friends first, just like us. She won’t break over a girl.”
Izumi, helping Zuko with feeding the turtle ducks: “Ba, how did you confess your feelings to Huyang?”
Zuko, nearly dunks a whole loaf in the pond: (Nervous) “Why.. do you ask?”
Izumi, avoiding looking at him: “Well, Huyang is a girl.”
Zuko, blinks: “Yes?”
Izumi, twists her fingers together in her lap: “And as far as I know, she’s only ever liked.. boys.”
Zuko, amused but then thoughtful about it: “I would hope she had a partial interest if only for the reason behind our marriage.”
Izumi, squints at him: “Ba, please don’t get lose yourself in your mind over this.”
Zuko, blinks when he realizes he’s going down a mental spiral then looks at her: “I just don’t understand why you would want to know about courtship at your age.”
Izumi, eyebrow raise: “Well, what were you doing at my age?”
Zuko, blinks slowly as the war flashbacks of his childhood up to meeting the Gaang and saving the world cross his eyes: “… Nevermind that. You are too young to date. We can have this discussion in the next.. fourteen years.”
Izumi, gasps: “I’ll be thirty!”
Zuko, huffs and tears off another piece of bread. “And still my daughter.”
Izumi, takes a deep breath before getting up and walking off. Zuko pauses in the middle of tearing off another piece, looking after her worriedly.
——
Druk hummed under Izumi’s careful petting, curled up around her on one of the mountainous cliffs overlooking Republic City. The ground beneath Izumi rumbles in greeting before she hears the footsteps behind.
Toph, stops by her side and folds her arms: “What’s got you so upset with your old man that you came all the way to Republic City?”
Izumi, glances back at her then sighs: “How did you know..”
Toph, snorts and sits down beside her: “He sent a transmission. Said you ran off with Druk?” (she lets the earth rumble underneath the dragon who growls softly in greeting)
Izumi, huffs and lifts her chin with an imperious tone: “Commandeering the royal airship without the Firelord’s approval is punishable. Druk isn’t an airship, he’s a dragon and family.”
Toph, raises a brow: “Uh-huh, and does the Firelame-o still count as family though he ticked you off?”
Izumi, stares at her in shock: “Of course he does. I just don’t understand him. What is so hard about telling me how he confessed his feelings to you?”
Toph, smirks: “Cause he didn’t.”
Izumi, blinks at her: “What?”
Toph, turns to look in Izumi’s general direction with laughter in her voice and a smile on her face: “You think I was gonna sit around and wait for Ol’ Emotionally Constipated and Muscley to make the first move? You might’ve been younger than Tenzin if that’d happened.”
Izumi, tilted her head a little and scoots closer with her hand resting on Toph’s: “So, how did it happen?”
Toph, angles her face a little lower and smiles in a tender way: “Short version - we went on a couple of field trips as friends, and on one, we came back with a plus one .”
Izumi, hums curiously: “A plus one?”
Toph, chuckles and moves her hand from beneath Izumi’s, wrapping her arm around her: “Don’t worry about it. My turn to ask questions, why’d you want to know from him?”
Izumi, started to lean into Toph but the question sends her reeling. She’s quiet for some time but eventually mumbles: “Because.. I thought he would know how to confess to a girl.”
Toph, is quiet for a little while then leans into her: “… Well, now. You went to the wrong guy. You should try Sokka, he’s got experience finding love even in war. Can’t say he’s any good at it but Suki loves him so..”
Izumi, looks up at her and smiles faintly, throwing her arms around Toph in a tight hug: “Thanks Huyang..”
Toph, let’s herself curl around her, discreetly dropping kisses on the top of her head: “.. Anytime, Sunshine.”
Next up for Happy Father's Day is Aang! I would've started with Aang but Sokka was at the forefront of my mind, so apologies to my airbending boy. This belongs to #tlok c&o.
Aang is so loved within this AU that it has brought me to tears more than once while thinking about it. There are echoes of him everywhere. The age old question of whether Aang and Korra would be friends, or like one another, isn't even a question here.
They would.
In some ways, strangely enough, because of the life he led and the things he left behind for her - Aang was a parental figure for Korra without the two of them ever meeting. Katara knew how much Aang worried for his incarnation, what would happen to them, if they would be alright in the world he made. He hoped that the world was safe enough that they could grow up as a regular kid, surrounded by love, with friends and family who knew them more than what the Avatar was meant to be.
He was also sad. He would be leaving Katara, who was still so full of life even though she claimed that she was just as old as him - if not older - since she was technically two years older than him (they bickered on whether the hundred years in the ice counted on Aang's scoreboard, Katara still thinks it's cheating). Not only that, but their children. He still felt the ache of losing Gyatso even as an old man, so to think his death would do the same to his children kept him up at night.
No matter how many plans he made, it would never be enough, so he tried to supplement it with memories.
Kya tried to keep her elderly father from trying to ride penguin seals, but she could admit there was something healing about hearing his laughter ringing out across the ice. The little scrapes or the bump on his head from when he fell awkwardly were healed with tutting, lectures, but gentle touches to his gnarled hands or his cheeks where years of smiling lines carved themselves into his skin with the loving shape she'd known her entire life.
Bumi took every call that came from Aang. He wasn't sure why, and there were plenty of times he was busy. But if someone sent a message that Aang was on the line, he was up and out of his bed before his father could second guess the hour. They would talk late into the night, and sometimes not at all. The silence didn't bother either of them much. He remembered the meditative sessions with Aang, the ones where he knew nothing would come - no water, no earth, no fire, no air. But there was always something there. His father was just within reach, sitting with him, enjoying the silence. Even miles away they could still have that.
Then there was Tenzin, who was struggling under the weight of legacy. Who knew once his father passed that it would be up to him to keep the Air Nomads alive. Aang watched as Tenzin tried to choose duty every time, who buried his heart and refused to listen to the wind he commanded when it tried to lead him back home. And he waited, he listened, he watched his younger son walk away from his heart then suffer for it. And the most advice he could give him was this: "Why can't love be your legacy? It was mine."
Because even if an airbender child would have returned to the world sooner if he married a nonbender, Aang would always choose Katara.
Even if the acolytes looked at him with eyes of admiration, longing, and perhaps lust? He only had eyes for Katara.
Tenzin could have been born as a waterbender, a nonbender, a two-headed lemur with a corkscrew tail and a hunger for moon peaches - and Aang would have loved him. Concerned, about the last one at least, but still love him. The Air Nomads would never truly die, they would always surround them, always be with them in the form of the love they currently had or another. But it would be a disservice to their people, to their culture, if Tenzin restricted his heart when it so clearly wanted to be somewhere else.
Aang was glad he lived long enough to see his children chase their dreams. Holding Kya's hand while he walked her down the aisle, bending away the humidity from her so that her make-up and her clothes wouldn't suffocate her. Although, she was already crying a little, and hugged him tight around her his shoulders before stepping into the arms of the woman she loved.
When Bumi came home, insisting on wanting to spend time with his parents, he was almost always at their side. Military life had begun to shift for him and while he couldn't tell them his current assignment - he assured that he had all the time in the world. As the old spinster of the three, he could at least do that. Though Katara just rolled her eyes and let him fuss over them, or just sit with them in the quiet, reminding them of how it all started - he had been there when their family was still young. And now, he was back.
Especially to watch his little brother get married. Finally, after what felt like forever, the wedding between Tenzin and Lin happened! It was a long courtship with many backslides, and issues, as well as grievances aired while quiet promises were made. But the two were blessed by the Avatar himself, who held their hands like they were still small children needing his support to walk. Lin swore to bury someone if they mentioned that she cried while Aang told her how proud of her he was, and how he'd always thought of her as a daughter.
And now she was his daughter! He had three daughters, and two sons, and couldn't be happier.
Aang lived a long life, and when it came to its end, he left something behind for his incarnation. A toy that he'd made all of his own to be passed down to them.
When Korra was a little girl, she rummaged around in Katara's home, claiming that she had been looking for something. Then while Katara is doing something, she hears a little voice calling out, "Katara! Check this out!" and turned around with a start to see Korra spinning the three balls in a ring with a proud grin on her face. They're wobbly, and it's rather slow, but she knows that trick.
Katara remembered that trick was used to distract their children when they were young.
That trick was the one most kids wanted to see the first time they met the Avatar.
It was Aang's trick.
And for his family, aside from the memories - whether they be good or bad - what Aang left for his family was Korra.
In the reaches of her mind, the moment her hand touched the toy, Korra felt a touch on her head. Soft as the wind, gently whispering over her hair, warm and playful before it was gone. And she knew then that she had to show Katara.
Since I don't have time to write out a fic at the moment (gotta go to work -sigh-), I did wanna put down my thoughts for later me to explore.
The thought currently is that somehow Zuko and Izumi both found a partner who loves to look after them/takes an interest in their well-being even to the point of breaking rules.
What do I mean by that?
Toph and Kya keep breaking into the Royal Palace. Now, Toph technically doesn't have to. She married the Fire Lord. She could just waltz in whenever she wanted and take a seat on the throne. It'd get a couple of stares, likely cause whispers and a diplomatic issue, but she could still do it. Zuko would probably just find it annoying because she stole his chair again, but it's still funny to watch everyone else just gasp and clutch their honor over it.
But nope. Toph comes there to see him, and also to make sure that in times of peace - and admittedly ones where old grudges are cropping up - the people who would put on a different face, hold themselves a little straighter, when they knew she was watching are behaving well even when she isn't. A lot of the Fire Nation's defenses were shit against her during the war, so what's it like outside of it? Still shit, still people riding on years of bigotry and fearmongering.
So she'll give them a run for their money - break down their defenses, watch them build it up better, and let them know in the most earthbender way possible that the only way this is gonna get better is if they have stability. Needless to say, there's a good number of the council who is just pleading with Zuko because the Royal Guard Captain is debating on banishing himself.
Now on the opposite end, we have Kya, who admittedly isn't as chaotic as her sworn aunt. But she is challenging. The Fire Nation was once isolationist, they looked down on the other nations, and Kya is living proof alongside Toph that their reign of terror would not stop life from flourishing. So she doesn't break their defenses, she slips through them, and steals the one thing that matters most to the Fire Nation - their precious heir.
Oh, she knows Izumi loves her nation. She wants to build them up to be better, she wants to continue her father's work and ensure that her mother's people are heard. Izumi could give the Avatar a run for his money with how hard she tries to maintain peace between the Fire Nation and others before she even has the crown.
And Kya is in love with the Princess, but what about the girl?
What about the girl who used to visit different food stands because she wanted to try everything at least once?
What about the girl who learned how to make her mother's seaweed cookies because she missed the taste of them when studying?
What about the girl who dropped everything and ran away with Kya to the forest outside of Republic City when the walls of being the "Avatar's Daughter" and "Heir to Southern Waterbending" became too much?
What about the girl who loved her?
The Fire Nation could have its crown, it could have its rules and its traditions, its princess and everything else. They may not think she's worthy to stand by Izumi's side, that she's lackluster, and pales in comparison to her parents and the rest of her extended family. But none of that mattered because as long as Izumi loved her, Kya would take the girl, toss out her crown, tousle her hair while she laughed and run.
In other words, there's some days that there's just tucked sheets and a note left on Izumi's bedstand with an apology for missing her work for x amount of time. That there was an emergency and she would have to be gone to handle it as an ambassador of the Fire Nation. Zuko's amused, the ministers are pissed, Toph is cackling when she hears, and somewhere on the horizon are two girls sailing through the clouds on the back of a dragon - heads tossed back to the wind, hands intertwined, and hearts beating as one.
