“Getting a tattoo wont be that bad,” Blake said as she gently took Ruby’s hand. “I’ll be right there with you.”
Ruby let out a sigh and looked away from Blake. “I know and I know this is important, but I… I’m not sure I can.”
“It’ll be easy-”
“I know, but I…” Ruby rubbed her arm. “I’m still scared of needles. Isnt there something else we can do? Like piercings o-or a ring?”
Blake sighed and gently rubbed Ruby’s shoulders. “Two lovers getting tattoos together is meant to help symbolize the bond that we have. A reminder that no matter what, we’ll have each other. Rings and piercings are just… trinkets. Temporary and replaceable. There’s a reason we use tattoos for engagement in Menagerie. On the bright side, you dont need to get anything large either. Something small will suffice too.”
“Y-yeah, but then it wouldnt be fair to you.”
“Its only symbolic-”
“I know and that’s not what I meant.” Ruby took a few breaths to steady herself. “You already showed me the tattoo you want to get that represents me. Its not fair to you to put you through getting something like that and for me to just get something small like your name.”
Blake gently wrapped her arms around Ruby. “Its not about whether or not this is fair, it really is only about the symbolism. I dont care if you want to do something simple or if you end up choosing something extravagant, I just want you to be happy with your choice. No one at our wedding celebration will judge you, they’ll understand. I promise.”
“But then I wouldnt really be taking part in your traditions.”
“And I dont want to force you to get a tattoo if you cant handle it.”
“I can handle it!”
“Ruby-”
“You said you’ll be there with me, right?” Ruby asked. “I… I can do it while you’re there.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m sure.”
“Any idea what you want to get then?”
“I actually have a drawing of it.”
Blake nodded and let Ruby go so she could grab her sketch book. She smiled a bit as she watched her flip through the pages, pausing once she saw the sketch that Ruby wanted as a tattoo. It was a simple outline of a cat with a tail turning into a bouquet of nightshade. “That’s beautiful.”
Ruby relaxed and sat the sketchbook down. “I’m still nervous about it, but… I also still want to follow through on all of your traditions. So when we go, you can get yours first and maybe I can relax a bit more by the time its my turn.”
“Then I’ll do everything I can to help you relax when its time,” Blake said as she kissed Ruby’s neck.
Countess Blake Belladonna's heart ached every time she saw the full moon.
Her beloved would be out somewhere this night. Ruby Rose was a kind girl, if only everyone else could see that. Instead, in the night of the full moon she becomes a creature that people feared.
As a monster of the night herself, Blake could not help but sympathize.
"Stay safe my beloved. I will wait for you."
Blake passed by the mirror, that showed no reflection. Countess Belladonna was double cursed to be a vampire and a cat faunus, feeding on the living and hated for the ears on her head. For this reason she remained in the old castle Belladonna, long after her family had been rounded up and killed. Her fangs protruded upon hearing a sound.
"WHO DARES?!"
The doors had opened. A fearsome hairy wolf monster, clad in a red hood, pushed through rough steps until she collapsed to the ground. It was bleeding, arrows and sharp swords having been stabbed through her back. Blake ran over to the beast upon noticing the familiar silver eyes.
"RUBY!"
She rubbed her hands over her beloved. Ruby came to her one day, looking for food and rest during the night. Blake had graciously given it to her, the two becoming fast friends. Ruby would elect to remain in the castle unable to part from Blake. She told her what she was, a werewolf who was separated from family long ago. Blake sympathized greatly.
"You are safe with me," Blake gazed upon Ruby's eyes. "Rest here. I will deal with the scum that hurt you."
Ruby made a noise that sounded like a whine. Mercy, it seemed to plead. They knew not what they do. The Countess, however, had already made up her mind. She stared at Ruby's eyes, allowing her own to glow.
"I will have vengeance for the both of us, my love." Blake hated to use this hypnotic power, but it was necessary. Ruby was too kind for her own good. "Rest and let me take the lead."
The humans will know the pain she felt for so long.
Blake ran her fingers through Ruby’s hair, sometimes lightly tickling her ears as she did. Her eyes scanned her book, but she could see Ruby’s tail wagging.
Ruby enjoyed moments like these. Spending a nice day under the shade of a tree with Blake. Ruby curled up closer to Blake as she closed her eyes, smiling happily.
If she could spend the rest of the day like this, she would.
Blake sighed happily and set her book down, staring down at her puppy-like girlfriend.
Ruby’s tail swayed faster as she made eye contact, “Hi,”
Beaches, Bikinis, and Backstage Passes - A Ladybug Two-Shot
Part 1
My contribution to Ladybug Week 2019!
Day 5: AU
Summary: It's just another day at Ruby's boring job at a surf shack on a beach in Vale. No one's coming in to shop because they're all at that music fest down the coast...until a beautiful Faunus girl in a bikini walks in. Ruby isn't certain, but something about this girl makes Ruby suspect that she likes her... For Ladybug Week 2019! Day 5: AU. Part Two is on its way soon!

Coastal Carl's Sea Shack was one of the less popular beach shops on Vale's western shore, and Ruby knew that fact first hand. It had been at least an hour since someone had walked in, which Ruby was very annoyed with. Sitting in this silent little shop with nothing to do was torturous. She could only do so much with her Scroll this far from the CCT Tower, and even then, she got bored with her games fast. At the moment, she just stared at the clothing racks, reading the front of each t-shirt and studying the patterns on the swimsuits. Ruby felt the slightest urge to get up and start messing with the merchandise, trying things on, rearranging everything just to entertain herself, but the ever present possibility of someone walking in kept her at her post, drumming her fingernails on the old-timey cash register to her left.
It was a small little hut about three surfboards wide and five surfboards long (they were hung along the walls). The walls were lined with shirts and swimsuits, and along the center of the floor were shelves stocked with sun lotion and board wax. At the very back was the check out desk where Ruby sat, with a small cubicle to try on clothes to her right. Dozens of surfboards lined the wall behind her.
She scratched under the collar of her red sleeveless hoodie and adjusted the waistband of her black shorts. The flip flops she had on earlier now simply sat on the floor behind her seat. She was technically supposed to keep them on at all times, but she could only wear flip flops for so long before getting annoyed with the little plastic thing between her toes. She was fine with being barefoot. After all, she was at the beach, technically.
Ruby felt like she was beginning to doze off when she heard the little bell at the front of the store ring. Ruby's eyes shot up to see the door shut, causing the brass bell to ring again. Ruby looked down to see who it was, and Ruby's body tensed immediately.
This girl had never been in this store before, because if she had, Ruby would have remembered. She first noticed the cute kitty ears atop the girl's head, then the swimsuit she wore. It was a jet black two-piece that matched the girl's hair. To put it frankly, the swimsuit fit her well.
Ruby almost forgot to say the line she was supposed to say to everyone who entered. "Uh, wel-welcome to Coastal Carl's." Ruby winced at how her voice faltered. She wanted to hide behind the counter. "Can I help you find anything?"
The girl's eyes turned her way, and they gleamed like gold. Her wavy locks of hair fell on her bare shoulders, inviting Ruby's eyes to continue down the girl's body had she not spoken. "Actually, I do need help finding something."
Ruby did not know how to feel. On the bright side, she had an excuse to talk to the girl more, and maybe get a little closer. On the other hand, this girl's voice and appearance was so angel-like, Ruby wasn't sure if she could keep herself from completely zoning out and straight-up marveling at the girl. Just...her eyes, and her adorable kitty ears...and her legs...
Keep yourself together, Ruby. We practiced for this very moment. A pretty girl just walked in wearing a pretty swimsuit and needs help finding something. Give her the world class customer service she deserves. "What can I help you find?" Ruby asked. Nailed it.
The tall brunette let her eyes wander about the merchandise. "I need a new swimsuit." Her eyes found their way to the women's section. "Any recommendations?"
Ruby immediately got the urge to say something corny like "anything would look good on you, baby," but she immediately told her brain to shush. I am a trained and professional surf and beach gear retailer. I serve my customers with dignity and respect-
"Ruby?"
Holy cats, she knows my name!...oh yeah, nametag...aaaaand I've been staring at her boobs. Smooth, Ruby Rose. Just fantastic.
"You alright?" the raven-haired girl mused, leaning down just enough to catch Ruby's eyes with her own.
Ruby shook her head, then locked her eyes on the girl's golden irises. She was about to speak, but then again, those eyes...Yield, Rose, yield! "W-well it all depends on what you're looking for so if you could follow me thiswayIcanshowyouourwomen'ssection-" Ruby was speaking faster than she could think.
The girl only chuckled and followed Ruby. Ruby went on and on about two-for-one deals and free bottles of sunscreen with purchases of forty Lien or more, but one suit in particular seemed to have already caught the tall girl's eye. "This one," she declared, grabbing a red one-piece with an exposed back.
"-andifyousignup for our email list you can receive offers up to twenty-percent...oh, good choice." Ruby cleared her throat, then nodded at the girl without looking directly at her. "If you're ready to check out, I can help you right over here." Ruby scurried back to behind the counter, making a conscious effort to keep her eyes trained downward to avoid getting...distracted, again.
Even as she locked her eyes on the cash register's screen, she could see the tall girl glide over, her long black hair waving behind her. Ruby felt a drop of sweat bead down her cheek. Great, I'm cliché sweating.
The girl placed the red wetsuit on the counter and Ruby scanned the tag. "Thirty-two Lien is your total," Ruby recited.
Much to Ruby's astonishment, the girl pulled a Lien card from her hip. It must've been wedged in her bikini bottom. What a way to carry...and now Ruby was staring at her hips.
"That should have just enough on it," the girl purred, setting the card on the counter.
Ruby nodded, peeling her eyes away and grabbing the card. "Yes, yes, lemme just scan it and yes it was accepted which means the swimsuit is yours and have a good day..." Ruby stopped herself. "I mean, uh..." she handed the Lien card back. "It's got a little left on it."
"Thanks, Ruby," she smiled. Like, she smiled. The girl took the Lien card and returned it to her hip. "Well, I'll see you around." She then turned and began to leave...but she was leaving the red swimsuit on the counter?
Ruby tried to shake the confusion out of her head, but she was a little distracted watching her leave, the way her hips just...RUBY! STOP! BEING! A PERV for like TWO SECONDS! "Wait! You, uh..." The girl turned back around, shooting Ruby a knowing glance and a small lopsided smile. "You...forgot your swimsuit."
The girl raised her eyebrows and looked around absently. "Did I?" She chuckled. "But that's your swimsuit."
Ruby stared at her in the face in confusion. "But...you just bought it, and-"
"I'm giving it to you," the girl clarified. "I figured you'd look good in it tonight, at that concert just down shore?"
Ruby blinked at her. "The concert?" She shook her head. "You...want me to go to the concert?"
The girl walked back over and placed her hands on the counter. She looked straight at Ruby and smiled. "Well, yeah. That's why I'm here, after all."
Ruby glanced down at the red swimsuit, then back at the brunette. "You're here to...buy me a swimsuit?"
The tall girl rolled her eyes and chuckled. "Hey, I'm Blake. I'm here to ask you to the concert tonight." She raised her eyebrows. "How was that?"
Ruby stared at her, again marveling at her golden eyes a bit. She opened her mouth to respond, but it hung open for a while before she actually spoke. "I...still don't get it."
Blake laughed, which made Ruby laugh, which made her even more nervous. She's asking me out. But...how...me and her? Is it physically possible for a girl like me to go out with...this...amazing...beautiful...
"Just meet me at the concert. I'll wait for you backstage. If you'd like to, that is," the girl named Blake said, then turned and began to leave again, smiling the whole way.
Ruby watched her go, again. She then looked down at the swimsuit. She curiously checked the tag. Small. "How'd you guess the right size?" Ruby called after Blake.
As she was walking out the door, Blake turned around and smiled. "I guess I have a good eye for those sorts of things." She then winked and waved. "See you later, maybe?" She left. The bell rang as the door closed.
Ruby looked back down at the swimsuit. She even guessed my favorite color...wait...did she say to meet her backstage?!
A/N: A second part is on its way soon. Happy Ladybug Week!
Blake and Ruby work together to write a pirate love story
“...Blake, please tell me that this asinine design was Ruby’s idea and not yours.”
Upon hearing her ex-heiresses insult towards her cardboard mastery, a swashbuckling dressed Blake appeared from behind a cardboard mast that was part of the 15-foot cardboard pirate ship that the Belladonna-Rose couple erected in the middle of their backyard. The pirate dressed fanus girl pointed a well made cardboard cutlass towards the white-haired girl and gave her a scowl.
“Arrrrg!!! Unless ye be looking to meet Davy Jones locker I wouldn’t be insulting the SS Shadow Rose.” Blake said with a gravely pirate voice, or at least the best one she could manage. Not expecting such a child like response form her more mature and stoic teammate and friend, Weiss silently stared at Blake with a dumbfounded expression. Before she had a chance to fully comprehend the series of event that had just transpired, Weiss watched as the cat girl’s girlfriend came out of a cardboard cabin wearing a fancy frilly dress and carrying a parasol in one hand and a fan in the other.
“If I may inter…intea…in…add captain Shadow Fang. I thought the name of this fine water bound vessel was the SS Ladybug?” Ruby asked in a strange and slightly butchered southern bell accent. The pirate fanus then turned away form the shocked Schnee and pointed the tip of her fake sword at her girlfriends throat.
“I’ll be having ye remember that I’m captain of this vessel and if I say the name be Shadow Rose then the name be Shadow Rose. Ye may be the most beautiful guest to ever grace this here fine deck, but that doesn’t give ye the right to give the captain lip.” Blake said. Still unsure of what was currently transpiring, Weiss continued to silently stare at the bizarre scene of her leader dressed up fancy and currently swooning from the pirate dressed fanus girl’s words and threats.
“Well I do declare!! If it weren’t for my father’s large sum of money I might think you were trying to woo me with your honeyed words.” Ruby said as she unfurled her fan and started to fan herself. The pirate dressed fauns got closer to the fanning noble girl and wrapped one arm around her waist and pulled her closer to her as Blake gave her a dangerous smirk.
“Ahh miss Rose, if it weren’t for yer father’s money you would make a fine addition to my crew, but to ignore my crew would result in a mutiny and I have no intention of spending me final days alone on a deserted island.” Blake said as she moved her free hand up to Ruby’s cheek and lightly caressed the girl’s cheek. Finally fed up with the book loving couples strange antics, Weiss broke her period of silence and shouted at the two girls.
“WHAT POSSIBLE REASON DO THE TWO OF YOU HAVE FOR SPEAKING LIKE A COUPLE OF IDIOTS!!??” Weiss shouted at the two girls, causing the two to jump back from the loud voice and away from each other. Once the two managed to calm down from the startle they received from the land lubing heiresses, Ruby spoke fist so that she could answer the annoyed girl’s question.
“My my. Why shouting is no way to ask a lady a question, myself and captain Shadow Fang-” Blake quickly interjected into Ruby’s conversation.
“Captain Shadow Fang and I.” Blake corrected. Shooting a fast glare at her more literate girlfriend, Ruby resumed her conversation with the Schnee.
“The two of us were looking to write a story involving a pirate and her noble women hostage turned lover that she had been holding for a ransom. The pirate ended up wanting to keep her noble women lover but knew she had to pay her crew, so she she has to struggle with the decision of keeping her crew happy, or obeying her heart and pursuing a relationship with her hostage.” Ruby siad. Waiting until her shorter girlfriend was finished describing the two’s pirate love story, Blake walked back up to her girlfriend and scooped her up and held her bridal style.
“Ayy, the noble lass is right. While we be excited to write such a noble novel, we both ran into the dreaded plight known as, ‘writer’s block’, and in order to get past the blasted wall we came up with the idea to erect this here fine vessel-”
“You mean the giant eye sore littering your backyard?” Weiss interrupted, earning a shared glare form the two role playing girls.
“-this here beauty of a ship and don these rags and enact what we’ve come up with so far. We be hoping that a spark of inspiration will ignite if we live out our characters’ lives.” Blake said after disregarding the Schnee’s earlier insult. Completely dumbfounded by the answer she received, Weiss simply raised her hands and backed away from the strange sight in front of her. She didn’t bother saying anything else since she was certain no use would come from digging for further answers. Now free of Schnees’, Blake and Ruby both turned their head and locked eyes together.
“What strange behavior, I wonder what could have possibly prompted such a strange reaction?” Ruby said. Not too concerned with the Schnee’s reaction, Blake gave her fancy dressed girlfriend the same dangerous girn she had given her earlier.
“Her behavior is of no concern to me. My only concern is getting the love scene done.” Blake sad still maintaining her gruff pirate voice. The pirate fanus lightly lowered Ruby onto the cardboard deck. While she was still giving the fanus a confidant smile, Ruby couldn’t help her face getting flushed as the pirate fanus straddled the noble girl’s stomach.
“My word! Captain Shadow Fang you know an honest women such as myself would never just hand herself over so casually.” Ruby said. Blake gave the girl a hungry chuckle as she gently ran her thumb over her girlfriend’s bottom lip.
“Once I’m finished with ye miss Rose, you won’t be feeling so honest anymore.”
