We met a local, Carlitos, who filled in some of the blanks about the neighborhood outside the wall in #oldsanjuan. #LaPerla district holds what was generally a really rough neighborhood w housing & the cemetery sandwiched between the castillos w only 3 ways in & out. Much of the area has not returned post hurricane, leaving structures gutted. So when he told us about a restaurant right on the cliff, named after a #sentrypost, #LaGarita, we were intrigued. Carlitos assured us it was safe to visit, I still heard Mama whisper, "Are you sure?" We decided on a late lunch during the day on my birthday, following the directions given. We looked for the small opening for a walkway between the cemetery & #elmorro, then walked along the street following the restaurant signs, a straight shot. It's a super cute place w an amazing view of the ocean. The open deck allowed for #alfresco food & drinks. The #kankanporkchop w #mofongo was delicious, I think about it from time to time. The fruity #cocktails were not too sweet & tasty.
