Serene blue hour over the Black Rock Desert by Peter Thoeny - Quality HDR Photography Via Flickr: We spent the weekend at Balls, a big experimental rocket launch event in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada - the same place where Burning Man takes place. We were quite busy in daytime preparing and launching rockets. It's time for leisure after 6pm. We witnessed a clean sunset, then we went to take a hot bath in one of the hots springs adjacent to the playa. I processed a photographic, a balanced, and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted color balance and curves. One of the #burningman principles is #leavenotrace we all come to the #playa and are inspired by and live by the principles. The principles act as beacons in the darkness of western capitalism to allow us to dig into our souls and return to behaviors that are more humane and more human at the same time. It’s the increased tendency towards these behaviors that puts a large group of people resonating at a new frequency. A frequency that is beyond the frequency of zero sum existence. All of these human tuning forks now resonating beyond the trappings of default world auto pilot create a field that gives birth to synchronicities and peculiar occurrences in such large numbers we notice it and call it “playa magic”. While I love the name playa magic, I humbly believe it’s is correlation and not causation. The playa is just where our human magic happens. If we work as hard at the principles off playa as we do on playa we would see this playa magic transform into human magic that would help recreate the paradise on earth we once had. I can shoot a photo of the playa where there are 80k people living and not see a single piece of trash. I hope to see the day when I can shoot a photo on a city street and see the same. If all of the same burners that diligently pick up mop on playa did it with the same fervent was enthusiasm off playa.
