Summary:
A collection of LAMP drabbles based around Christmas. Each day will have a different Christmas theme from the 1st to the 25th. It's all fluff and cute poly love from here!
This was my submission for the Fanders Fic summer competition! I didn’t win but gosh there were so many good submissions! I just wanted to share my own since voting is over.
Summary: Roman is always trying new things and roping the others in along with him, but they get a new challenge with his latest idea.
Word Count: 1583
Pairing: platonic LAMP
There were times when even Virgil would admit that Roman had good ideas. Shoot, Virgil would even admit he maybe even had great ideas! He wasn’t creativity for no reason. Roman could think of wonderful ideas and build off of them like it was nothing. A simple thought he had once could grow into something truly beautiful with time.
This was definitely not one of those ideas.
It was infuriating. Roman just looked so smug as he stood in the living room, all eyes on him. He held his head high as he looked at the other sides on the couch with pure, unfiltered smugness painted across his face.
Patton stood up and walked closer and gasped as he looked up at Roman. “Wow, Roman! You look so tall in those heels!” Patton leaned closer to admire the red heels that had been overly bedazzled with gold gems. “They’re so pretty!”
“Why are you wearing those?” Logan looked at the shoes, baffled. “There doesn’t seem to be any need for them.”
“Take them off, Roman,” Virgil bit out but watched with widened eyes. “You could fall and hurt yourself and I don’t wanna hear it.”
Roman scoffed and carefully took a couple steps forward. “You’re just jealous that you can’t look this good.” Virgil rolled his eyes and burrowed himself deeper into the couch cushions. “Besides, I bet you couldn’t even walk in heels!”
Virgil bit his tongue as Patton jumped up and down next to Roman. “Oh, oh! I wanna try!” Roman smirked and pointed down at the fatherly side, a pair of short powder blue heels taking residence on his feet. “Ohh, they’re sparkly! I love it!” Patton stuck out a foot to look down at his new heels.
“What could possibly be the benefit to wearing something so… frivolous?” Logan commented while standing and taking a closer look at Patton’s new footwear. “It’s all about balance, it should be rather simple. I just don't see the appeal.”
“Oh?” Roman turned to Logan as he cocked an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
Logan took a step backward as he raised a hand up. “No, wait, don’t-!”
“Boom!” Roman pointed over to Logan as the logical side stumbled before looking down. “There! They’re boring and not sparkly, you should appreciate that.”
Logan waved his arms out a bit to stabilize himself as he inspected his new shoes. Much like Patton’s, they were smaller heels than Roman’s. However, these seem to be a dark blue made out of satin to still give it some charm. “I hate to admit it, but they are quite tasteful.”
“Virgil next!” Patton clapped his hands as he bounced in place, careful to keep himself firmly planted on the ground.
“Wait, no!” Virgil leaned forward from his seat at the couch, gripping the sides to keep him firmly in place. “I want no part in this!”
“Too late!” Roman spun and pointed at Virgil as he worked his magic.
Virgil leaned back and looked down at his feet as he lifted them up. He noticed a significant weight difference as his eyes widened in panic. “Princey, no! Take them off now!”
“No can do!” Roman turned away and slowly strutted across the room. “Besides, you don't seem to be planning on walking in them anyway.”
Virgil glared down at the velvet purple heels on his feet. They were as big as the ones Roman was carefully walking around in and Virgil took it as a personal insult. “What, you think I can’t?” He looked up at Roman as his feet carefully landed back onto the carpet, staring Roman down as the fanciful side turned on his heel to look back at the others.
“Come now, Virgil, it’s simply because you are too…” Roman waved a hand around as he tried thinking of an appropriate word.
“... scared?” Virgil muttered out.
“Well, since you’re the one who said it, sure!” Virgil scoffed and crossed his arms, turning away as he leaned back into the couch. “Oh come now, Ed Sneer-an. You know I mean it with the best of intentions! You're simply too... cautious!”
“Maybe he can make them smaller so you can walk with us!” Patton tried taking a step closer before immediately flailing his arms. Logan reached out and grabbed him as they both stabilized after a moment. “Oh, thanks for catching me! Guess walking in these is a greater feet then I thought!”
Logan sighed and shook his head, pulling away from Patton. “Why do I even bother?” Logan looked down at his own feet and carefully took a step forward. He stretched his arms out to both sides before taking another step, smiling at his progress. “See? It is like I said, all a matter of balance.”
“Way to take all the fun out of it,” Roman smirked a bit as he carefully strutted across the room, stumbling a bit but had managed to recover gracefully. “You look like you’re walking a tightrope!”
Logan huffed as he inspected the heels once more. “I do not wish to fall and while I appreciate the height advantage, I do not see how these are practical. My feet are already protesting uncomfortably.”
“Oh gee, I’ve heard of feet smelling but not talking!” Patton giggled as he managed to take a step forward. “Oh, look, I did it!”
“Proud of you, padre!” Roman stayed close as he watched Patton slowly walk a few more feet, flailing a bit but not falling over. “Look at you go! Magnificent!”
Virgil scoffed and turned away, hiding the smirk from his face. “Yeah, whatever.”
“Oh, just because you don’t even want to bother to participate doesn’t mean you should be jealous!” Roman placed a hand on his hip and posed like more of a diva than he normally would. The heels probably helped a bit with that.
Virgil turned back and watched Roman before smirking to himself. “You’re right, Roman. I’m sorry, that wasn’t very nice.” Virgil sat up and stretched an arm out, extending his hand as a peace offering. “Can you help me? Since you’re so good at it, what better way to learn?”
Roman watched carefully before smiling as Virgil stroked his ego. “I suppose it would be rather generous of me to share a few tips.” Roman grabbed Virgil’s hand and pulled him to his feet. Stumbling forward, Roman caught him and held him close until the other side managed to stand on his own. “You okay?” Virgil nodded and Roman pulled back a bit. “The key is to stand up straight,” Roman chuckled to himself at the notion of being straight in any sense of the word, “and look at where you want to go.” Roman turned and pointed across the room. “Just imagine your man is over there and he is ready for the taking!” Roman started to strut forward as he managed to make it mostly across the room before stumbling a bit. “Woah, okay, sorry! Need to practice a little bit more.” He turned and looked back at Virgil who had his arms hugging himself as he watched Roman walk closely. “It’s intimidating but I’m sure with time and practice you’ll get it!”
Virgil nodded and pouted a bit. “Yeah, I guess.” He took a deep breath before looking at Roman across the room. “Just one problem.”
“Oh? Do you want me to come back over there and help?” Roman shuffled forward but stayed in his spot.
Shaking his head, Virgil threw his shoulders back and smirked. “No, I mean you have just one problem. You’re walking toe to heel when you should be walking heel to toe.” Virgil walked forward with accuracy and experience, making it across the room faster than Roman had easily. “See, if you walk heel to toe it’s actually a lot more helpful.”
Virgil couldn’t help the smile on his face when he saw Roman staring at him in shock. “What-but… how do you…?” Roman pointed to Virgil and then down to his heels. “How?!”
“Aww, what’s the matter? It’s not my fault you forget heels are a part of my, what do you call it? Dark emo aesthetic?” Roman shut his eyes before slapping the palm of his hand to his forehead. “Aww, come on, it’s not that bad!”
“That was amazing!” Patton shouted from the other side of the room. He reached over and grabbed Logan’s arm, shaking him back and forth. “Did you see that? That was so cool!”
Logan nodded and pushed his glasses up as they started to slide. “I must admit that was rather impressive and shocking, to say the least.”
“Nah, it was nothing.” Virgil looked Roman dead in the eyes before turning back and running over to the couch. He spun around and fell backward, crossing his legs and looking down at his heels. “I like ‘em. Mind if I keep them?”
Roman nodded and ran a hand through his hair. “Yeah, sure fine. Excuse me a moment, I think I need to get some fresh air.” Roman reached out to the wall as he turned to walk out of the room.
“Need a hand there, Roman?” Virgil called from the couch. Roman didn’t need to look at him to be able to see how smug he looked, he could feel it dripping from his tone of voice.
“You are so lucky I love you,” Roman muttered, smiling to himself as he walked out of the room, ignoring the laughter coming from behind him.
Spooky Dreams and Dragon Witches- Sanders Sides Spooky Month
A/N: Honestly, this story kinda went all over the place, and I’m not that happy with it. However, I had the idea in my head for a while, and I knew I wanted to participate in Spooky Month at least one more time, so I went with it. I also realized that I struggle with writing Logan. And Patton. And Roman. Basically I’m only good at writing Virgil (which makes sense since I relate to him most). Either way, I hope someone out there enjoys this. This is for the prompts ‘Spooky Dreams’ and ‘Dragon Witch’ over on @sanderssidesspook
Summary: Roman has a nightmare that Virgil, Logan, and Patton have died because of the evil Dragon Witch. (it’s meant to be a human au, but technically it doesn’t have to be) (also Logan is the one with a streak of blue hair, if that’s confusing)
Pairing: intended Romantic LAMP, but can be read as platonic
Word Count: About 2k
Warnings: angst with a fluffy ending, nightmares, blood, injury, death, food mention, cursing(one word), (please let me know if there are any others)
“Take that, you foul beast!” The Dragon Witch let out a loud roar as Roman swung his sword. The creature swerved sharply, a large gash opening where the sword had struck. Seizing his chance, Roman took hold of his sword tightly. The prince lunged forward.
The Dragon Witch lifted suddenly, causing him to miss his target. However, he did manage to slice the creature’s wing, hindering it’s attempts at flight. “You shall leave this village alone!” Roman once again lifted his sword with a flourish. The Dragon Witch continued to bellow as the sharp weapon slashed it’s legs and torso.
After a few minutes, Roman raised his sword to serve the final blow. “You shall never disturb these innocent villagers again!” he shouted firmly. But the Dragon Witch had already left when he looked up. It was flying shakily towards the mountains in the distance. The prince lowered his sword slowly, confused about the sudden surrender from his enemy. Shrugging, he pushes his hair out of his face. He turns and starts walking back to the village. “Do not worry, lovely people. I have taken ca-”
A loud cry broke through his reassurances. Roman whips his head around to the source of the noise. Another pained shout is heard. The noises are coming from towards the mountains. Towards where the Dragon Witch had disappeared. “Shit,” Roman says under his breath. He quickly takes off, unsheathing his sword once again. As he runs across the field and over the hill, he hears the sounds of wings flapping. Looking up, he watches the Dragon Witch rise into the air, and fly off to the mountain tops.
Finally making it over the hill, Roman spots a large black heap a few yards away. He rushes over to it. “Hello?” he calls as he approaches. “Are you alright?” The sky grows darker, and clouds roll in. Skidding to a stop, Roman kneels down carefully. The figure is groaning in agony.. “Excuse me, I’m here to help. Are you alr-” his breath hitches in his throat. Leaning closer, the familiar purple hair becomes more clear. “No,” he breathes out. Gently rolling the figure over, Roman lets out a gasp.
Virgil’s face is covered is scrapes and he has fresh bruises along his forehead and cheeks. His lip is bleeding steadily. “My Shadowling?” Roman asks softly. He gets no response. A soft whimper comes from behind him, and he glances around. Lying behind him is another figure. This one has a streak of dark blue in their hair, and tears spring into Roman’s eyes. “No,” he lets out again. He reaches over and turns the second body over.
Logan’s face is less bruised than Virgil’s, but he has far more cuts. His glasses dangle off his nose, twisted and the lenses shattered, apparently the cause of the multitude of cuts. “No,” Roman says as the tears start to run down his cheeks. “No, no, no, no.” He pulls Logan into his arms. “Starlight, please. Come on, Lo. Wake up.” He grabs Virgil too, holding them both close.
When Roman sees the body wearing a light blue polo appear beside him, a loud sob escapes his lips. Patton’s arm is twisted at an odd angle, and blood is pooling below his right leg. There’s no rise and fall of his chest. Roman leaps over, grabbing Patton’s hand and pulling it to his chest, checking for a pulse at the same time. When he doesn’t feel a thump-thump below his fingers, Roman lets out a strangled cry. “Not you, too, Sunshine.” The hot tears fall quickly, blurring his vision. He turns to get help, but the village has disappeared. He’s in a clearing surrounded by tall, thick trees. He has nothing to attend to their wounds. No way to save them.
“No!” Roman tries shaking them awake. He tries to stop the blood flow with his sash. He tries giving them mouth-to-mouth. They all remain unresponsive. His sobs forcefully shake his body with their strength. The wind has picked up in the clearing, making him shiver. Eventually, large raindrops begin to fall, the cold droplets a strange contrast as they mix with the prince’s hot tears. “I’m sorry!” he wails as he pulls their lifeless bodies close to him. “I should have saved you. I should have slain that evil creature. This is all my fault! I’m so sorry, my loves.”
The wind makes his body sway. He gets tossed back and forth, but refuses to let the three bodies go. “Roman,” the wind seems to whisper. “Roooomaan,” it calls to him. It begs him to let them go.
“No!” Roman shouts back through his cries. “No, I won’t leave them! I have to save them! It’s my fault! It’s all my fault.” He starts mumbling to himself, “All my fault, all my fault, all my f-”
“ROMAN!”
Logan sighed softly as he took a sip out of his glass. The kitchen was dark, the only light coming from above the stove, emitting a dim glow across the room. Glancing at the oven, Logan sighed once again. Three in the morning. He pulls off his glasses to rub his eyes.
The kitchen door swings open, making Logan jump slightly. Placing his glasses back on his face, he sees Virgil standing in the doorway, clearly surprised that the room was not empty. “Salutations, Virgil.”
“I, uh,” he glances around. “Sorry, I can just- I’ll go.”
“No, it is quite alright,” Logan assures the other man. He beckons him over. Virgil awkwardly walks over, hopping onto the counter top. “I will never comprehend your peculiar obsession with sitting on objects not meant for sitting,” Logan says, amused. Virgil smiles and shrugs.“Virgil, I would like to point out that it is not healthy for a person to be up at such hours.”
“Yeah, you’re one to talk,” Virgil says back. “You were here before I was. What’s up, Lo?”
“I was merely unable to sleep. Too many thoughts and unanswered questions. I came out here because Patton has suggested before that warm milk helps, and I decided to continue reading my book,” Logan explains. Virgil gets off the counter and walks to the fridge. “What is the reason for your inability to sleep at this, for lack of a better word, ungodly hour?”
Virgil turns back around, holding a bottle of water and a plate of cookies. He sits down across from Logan at the table. “Meh,” he shrugs. “Same as usual, I guess. I felt anxious. I couldn’t stop thinking about the past. I couldn’t relax.” He pops a cookie into his mouth.
“You do know that it is unwise to eat at this time, correct? Not only will it ruin your natural eating schedule, making you not hungry at the proper breakfast time, but it will also make it more difficult to fall asleep anytime soon,” Logan points out. Virgil shrugs again. Logan reaches over to grab the other man’s hand. He gives Virgil a small smile, then returns to reading his book. Eventually, Logan begins reading softly aloud to the anxious man. Virgil relaxes and leans back into his chair, squeezing the hand holding his.
A muffled sound cuts off Logan mid-sentence, several minutes later. He shares a worried glance with Virgil. There’s another muffled sound, followed by what sounds like a whimper. Logan places his book on the table. He stands up, pulling Virgil up with him. Together, the two walk out of the kitchen and down the hall. Logan squeezes the other man’s hand reassuringly. There’s another whimper, and a muffled shout. They both quicken their pace.
Stopping at Patton’s door, they both pause and listen. There’s just soft breathing coming from the other side. Virgil turns to Logan, worry in his eyes. “That means it’s Ro-” he’s cut off by a shout, louder than the last one. Without thinking, he breaks into a run towards the extravagant man’s door, Logan quickly following behind him. He can hear the rustling of sheets from the inside, and the whimpers are more clear now.
“Roman?” He knocks on the door loudly. Logan comes up beside him. “Ro, are you awake?” he calls. Another shout comes from inside the room, and Logan opens the door. They both gasp when they enter. Roman is thrashing around on his bed, flailing his arms. His face is stained with tears, and he’s covered in a sheen of sweat. Virgil rushes forward quickly, climbing onto the bed. He has to dodge Roman’s hits, and gently grabs onto the sleeping man’s arms to steady them. “Roman!” He shakes him carefully.
Roman lets out an agonized “No!” and continues to thrash around. Logan walks over stiffly. “He appears to be having a nightmare,” he states obviously.
“Yeah, no kidding, Lo,” Virgil replies sharply.
“Guys? What’s happeni- Oh!” Patton gasps as he walks in. He hurries forward quickly, brushing past Logan, and stops beside the bed.
“Pat, I need you to go get a wet washcloth, quickly,” Virgil says firmly. He keeps a hold on Roman’s arms to ensure he doesn’t hurt himself or Virgil. Patton runs off quickly. “Logan,” he turns to the man standing frozen behind him and looking helpless. “Go get a glass of water for when he wakes up.” The logical man nods and walks off.
“Ro, wake up,” Virgil says, turning back to the flailing man. He shakes him roughly. “Roman!”
“No!” Roman yells, struggling harder against the hands shaking him. “It’s my fault,” he mumbles. “It’s all my fault.”
Virgil blinks back the tears that had sprung to his eyes. Patton comes back, and begins dabbing the cool washcloth across Roman’s forehead. Virgil shakes the man again. “Roman, wake up. C’mon, Ro, it’s just a dream. Roman!” He shouts loudly.
Roman’s eyes fly open. He glances around panickedly, gasping. Slowly, he stops thrashing his body, and his arms relax. When his eyes focus on the face in front of him, he pulls Virgil into his arms. “You’re alive,” he says relieved.
“Of course I’m alive, love.” Virgil falls into the other’s embrace. “It was just a bad dream. You’re okay. We’re all okay. It wasn’t real.” He carefully rocks Roman in his arms. Patton wraps his arms around the two men, joining the hug. Roman looks up and he lets out a breath when he sees Patton.
“My Shadowling and my Sunshine,” Roman says. Patton rubs soothing circles on his back, as Virgil runs his fingers through his hair, and Roman slowly calms down. Eventually, Virgil turns on a small bedside lamp. He helps Roman sit up, and sits down beside him, keeping his arms around the other man’s shoulders. Patton sits in front of Roman, gently wiping away the dried tears with the cloth. When Logan returns, he places the glass of water on the bedside table.
He stays standing, but reaches out to hold Roman’s hand. “I would like to remind you that dreams are usually highly illogical, and that whatever happened in your dream probably has a very unlikely probability of happening in real life.” Roman gives him a smile, knowing that he’s trying, and that this isn’t exactly Logan’s area of expertise.
“So you mean,” Patton smirks slightly, “the chance is infinitesimal?” Logan groans, while the other three chuckle.
As it neared four a.m, Virgil moved to stand up. “No!” Roman shouts. Virgil glances at him, raising an eyebrow. Roman’s cheeks flush slightly. “Sorry, but, uh… could you stay here with me? All of you? Can you please sleep in here?” Patton nods excitedly, and Virgil sinks back onto the bed. Logan, however, looks around awkwardly.
Roman smirks, scooting over on the bed. “C’mon, Specs, I want you in this, too.” Patton scoots over as well. He pulls Logan into the space between him and Roman. Patton fits himself under Logan’s arm, snuggling into his side. Roman throws one of his arms around Logan’s shoulders, snaking his other one around Virgil, pulling him to lay on his chest. Logan relaxes slowly, and Virgil grabs his hand, squeezing it tightly. “Thank you,” Roman whispers sleepily. Together the four men fall asleep, safe in each other’s arms.
A/N: I could have ended it at the infinitesimal joke, but I wanted to add some fluff. Leave tips if you want. Hope you enjoyed. Happy Spooky Times! Much love <3
If your taking prompts, how about a fic where Patton can never really get a good family picture because Virgil hates pictures and constantly hides his face when he sees a camera?
Patton ran over to the camera that was currently balanced precariously on the banister. He had a large smile on his face until he clicked the camera’s recall button.
“Virgil,” he pouted, bringing the camera over to them, “can you smile a little for the camera?”
The Anxious Side shrugged, chewing on his jacket’s sleeve. “I’ve never smiled a day in my life,” he deadpanned. Patton huffed and Virgil smirked, knowing full well that his statement was utterly false and something that Patton would not stand for.
“Virgil Sanders, I’m going to put this camera back and take one more photo and you’d better be smiling.” Virgil didn’t shrink away in the face of Patton’s Dad Voice, much to the other’s chagrin.
He placed the camera back on the banister and made sure that the timer was set before running over to pose again with the others.
Click!
The room was tense as Patton shuffled back over to the camera. A quiet snicker from Virgil was the first indicator that he’d be disappointed by this photo as well. Sure enough, the photo showed Logan giving his signature smirk, Patton and Roman smiling, and Virgil hiding almost entirely behind Roman, his hood up as he peered mischievously over the prince’s shoulder. Patton was at his wit’s end, but instead of chiding Virgil again, he simply toggled with a few of the camera settings and put it back on the banister.
“Okay, everyone! One more and then we’re set.” Patton smiled and noticed once again that Virgil was beginning to creep behind Roman. Patton was calmly counting down in his head as he gently pulled Virgil to the center of the group.
Five… four… three… two…
One.
The room erupted into chaos.
Virgil jumped to scare Roman and the prince startled so much that he tripped over the coffee table and not-so-gracefully careened into the sofa. Logan reached out, but was too far away to help and immediately crossed his arms, entirely fed up with this “family opportunity” as Patton had put it. And Patton… he’d finally had enough.
“VIRGIL! I just want one family photo and I want it to look nice so we can put it in our scrapbook to visit later, is that too much to ask for?” Angry tears pricked his eyes, but his voice was drowned out by Virgil’s laughter.
The entire scene was so absurd. Roman still looked utterly shocked from his spill, Logan was rubbing the bridge of his nose in exasperation, and Virgil was doubled over in laughter. Patton couldn’t stay mad for long and soon felt giggles bubbling up in his chest.
He walked over to help Roman up off the couch and the prince shook the shocked expression from his face before giving Patton a sheepish grin and accepting his hand. Once Virgil’s laughing had slowed to little chuckles here and there, Patton smiled with a fire in his eye. This didn’t go as planned, but there was bound to be at least one decent picture in this batch. He retrieved his camera and began thumbing through the 50-frame burst he’d just taken.
He smiled at one of the best photos he’d seen in years. It had been taken a few moments into the chaos. Roman was mid-fall, eyes wide in terror as he tripped over the coffee table, Logan looked concerned as he darted, arms outstretched, to try in vain to catch the falling prince. Patton’s foot was lifted and ready to stomp, and Virgil looked like he was having the time of his life. His fingers were splayed in front of him as he made his Boo! face. His eyes held a spark of pride and amusement as he began to process Princey’s reaction.
Patton continued clicking through the photos as the others began to migrate towards the kitchen for dinner. There was one photo, taken near the end of the burst, that made him pause. His breath caught in his throat as he gazed down at the photo, fighting off the tears that were threatening the blur it from view. Roman was being helped up, sheepish grin now replaced by a warm, genuine smile to match Patton’s. Logan was looking on from his side of the frame with a knowing and loving grin. And then there was Virgil, standing right in the center, turned away from the others, yet facing the camera completely. He was smiling the brightest, happiest smile Patton had ever seen. One hand was still crossed over his stomach from laughing and the other was nonchalantly being used as a barrier to shield his expression from Logan just in case the other had looked over.
The entire photo was so pure and happy and loving and family. Patton smiled. This was definitely one for the scrapbook.
Hey, I wondered, if you could write something where Virgil is his usual anxious self or thinks low of himself or something, and someone comes by and is just like "You‘re awesome by the way!", not even thinking about it (maybe even without noticing Virgil is a little (more than usual) down?) Also A+ if that someone‘s not Patton, since I have the feeling he‘d say so quite often and Virgil would just think it‘s his usual self being like this to everyone. Thanks a lot! Love your blog & texts! <3
Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoy my works! Here’s some analogical because I agree that Patton probably does say stuff like that a lot. (Though hc that Virgil’s slowly starting to believe it more and more with every time he says it.)
Positively True

Virgil had been feeling particularly anxious all day and while it wasn’t bad enough to bother Thomas in person about it, he couldn’t help the tingly feeling prickling across his skin. He simultaneously felt like he should sit still and run around, it was so infuriating, so he opted for sitting precariously on the edge of the couch. Patton had come in earlier and offered to put a blanket around him and Virgil had accepted it gratefully, it was comforting to feel something around him, holding his electrical undercurrent at bay.
He was currently hyper-focused on counting the things in the room that he could see from his perch. One TV, five cushions on the bottom of the couch, seven on the top, five pillows, two chairs, one table, fourteen stair steps, two feet coming down the stairs. He paused his counting when he saw Logan walking downstairs, planner in hand as he mumbled to himself. He was going over the notes from their earlier video and had seemingly not seen Virgil. It’s not like the Anxious Side was actively trying to be seen, but it would’ve been nice to be acknowledged at the very least. It was in that moment that Logan looked up, finally realizing that he wasn’t alone.
“Oh, Virgil! I was just going over the notes from the latest video and I think it went rather well. Patton’s puns were…” he adjusted his glasses, “well-received, I suppose. And Roman did really well with that rewrite at the end.” He continued going down the list of good and bad reviews he had for the episode and seemed to notice Virgil curling further into his blanket. He lowered his notebook and offered a small smile. “You were awesome, by the way. Or, correction, you are awesome. Not just for this video, but all around. I’ve seen your progress over the past year and I know that we didn’t make it very… easy for you to feel at home at first, but I’m glad that we’ve worked things out. That we’re a… we’re a ‘family’, Patton would say.”
Virgil looked into Logan’s eyes, searching for the catch, the punchline to the joke, but came back with only heartfelt determination. “Y-you really think that?” He asked hopefully.
Logan’s expression softened as he sat on the couch beside him. “Yeah, Virgil, I really do.” Virgil pulled his blanket around his shoulders more to cover up his smile as they fell into a comfortable silence.
A few minutes later, Patton came bounding downstairs and asked if Virgil was feeling up for a movie. Once everything was set up, Roman was called downstairs and the four of them started watching Halloweentown, one of the few movies they could all agree on. Logan continued checking off his notes, sparing occasional glances at the screen to catch up in the movie, and Patton and Roman were entirely transfixed the entire time. Virgil, however, kept his head ducked under his blanket and slowly made his way onto the couch, curling up between Logan and the armrest as the movie slowly lulled him to sleep.
logan loves to smile, but nobody knows this. he just really likes the feeling that comes with it. he doesn't know how to explain it though. so, when hanging out with the squad TM he tries to hide this unknown smile feeling thingy and then it becomes a competition to make him smile.

“Oh come on, you can’t stay stoic forever,” Roman pouted, sitting on the couch next to Logan, leaning in dangerously close. “Honey, I love you, won’t you give me a smiiiile~?”
Logan stared forward at the wall, not breaking in the slightest. This competition had begun as a frivolous way to pass the time, but now they were in it deep. At this point, it was a matter of pride and spite that he win.
“Honey, I love you, but I just can’t smile.”
Roman pouted at his loss and turned to Patton. “Honey, I–”
Patton burst into a fit of giggles and quickly slapped a hand over his mouth, tears welling in his eyes. “Oh drat!” He said after he was able to compose himself a little.
“Yes! One for me!” Roman said, triumphantly. He then turned to face Virgil, but found that the Anxious Side was already one step ahead of him.
Virgil was sitting on the coffee table right in front of him, leaning in slightly with big doe eyes he’d learned from Patton. “Honey, I love you…. won’t you give me a smile?” Roman’s cheeks flushed deeply and his jaw tightened. He wouldn’t break. He couldn’t. There was no way he would bend in this competition. But he hadn’t expected Virgil to go so far.
“Honeyyyyy,” Virgil said, starting to sprawl on the table like a doll, “I loooove you, won’t you give me a smiiiiiile?” This was ridiculous. Seeing Virgil throw caution to the wind just to spite him in a single game. He’d severely underestimated Virge’s sense of competition. He couldn’t hold it back any longer, a smile broke out across his face and he stifled a laugh.
“Curses!”
“Ha! Told you I could win!” He said, immediately composing himself once more, acting as though the previous display had never happened.
“No one’s gotten Logan yet!” Patton pointed out, hopping a little in his seat.
“Ah, that’s true, but the real question…” Logan adjusted his glasses, “is whether I can… ‘get got.’”
Virgil groaned at the colloquialism, but sat up again, preparing to win this thing once and for all.
“Honey, I love you,” he started, moving to sit on the armrest next to the other, “won’t you give me a smile?” He finished the line while looking into Logan’s eyes, trying to will the other to smile.
“Honey, I love you, but I just can’t smile.” Logan replied, expressionless. Virgil huffed. Logan felt a happy twinge in his chest, knowing full well that he himself was nearly at his limit. He could break any second and he was only slightly prepared for that. Logan knew that if he lost, he’d hear about it for weeks, but he also knew that losing would give him an excuse to smile. He could feel giddiness bubbling up in his chest as Virgil began to ask the question again.
“Honey?” He said, twirling his hoodie string around his finger, “I love you. I love you sooo much.” He was beginning to rag doll again, slumping down onto the floor and looking up from Logan’s knees. “Won’t you give me a smile?” He couldn’t take it anymore, the feeling had bubbled up and was about to overflow.
A smile slowly appeared on Logan’s face until he finally cracked and let out a laugh. His whole body shook as he continued laughing, remembering all the things from earlier he’d had to push away in order to maintain his composure. Patton started laughing along with him and soon all four of them were in stitches.
“I… win!” Virgil said victoriously between suppressed laughter. It was rare for Virgil to laugh, Logan noted, but he could now appreciate the appeal of getting others to smile. The others tried to get him to smile all the time and to be honest, he was rather in favor of it. Though he’d never admit it, he enjoyed these games. When the laughter finally died down, he allowed a small grin to remain as he began reading the book he’d started before this entire thing had taken off.
Maybe smiling more often was something he could get used to.
