Why didn’t more of Luke’s army let the Lastrygonians inside the barrier? Did it have to be campers who let them in, or just demigods?

Tyson befriending the Lastrygonians and getting to make weapons… Luke is really clever. He knows Percy’s fatal flaw, and he made a very convincing argument.
I notice Tyson was wearing a jacket and he discarded it when it caught fire. Was that a jacket given to him by the Lastrygonians, and was that moment symbolic? Probably, I wasn’t paying attention. I never did well with the symbolism in English class.
Annabeth figured it out that the giants were a diversion. And they arrived just as Luke was poisoning the tree. Interesting and dramatic deviation from the books.
I see they skipped the joke about Canadians. Probably just as well, considering this was filmed in Canada.
“They fight like a team, so they’re not that stupid.” Percy reminding us that collaboration is smart. Pity no one listens to him.
Clarisse has excellent timing against the Lastrygonians. Although it is a bit strange to see her leading a team of archers.
