Jayce Talis being referred and seen as Latino by the majority of the community truly makes me happy.

I love Latino Jayce. I'll read any fic where he speaks Spanish just cause it makes sense.

Also, looking at the insane amount of fics for Jayvik that we got 2024 is crazyyyy. I remember when season 1 was out, and there were around 2000 fics (which is still a lot in comparison to other Fandoms I'v interacted with), so to see the number go up every day when I refresh AO3 is a dream.

Anyways, all of this is to say that I love Jayce, and people need to keep writing him as a Latino character <3

i absolutely love the like, fanart and fics of arcane jayvik meeting league jayvik because they're hilarious but also so interesting on a writing level for each of their characters

like viktor meeting the machine herald would give him some fr introspective moments on how his want to help others could eventually turn him into a literal supervillain if he had a few more bad days and a worse boyfriend, and meeting the herald might legit convince him not to do the glorious evolution

and if jayce talis met jayce giopara he'd just be horrified to see the multiverse made him white

Jayce is Latino, Persian, and French:

Ximena is a Latina obvs. || I think Jayce’s dad is half Persian (bc the country of Iran does not exist in Runeterra) and half French (French being his piltovan half) this is because of the origins of the surname Talis (the ones I found at least): Latvian: far; far away and to value, Brazillian: to Blossom, Latin: from vitalis meaning life/life giving, French: forest woodland, Hebrew: in reference to Tallit, Persian: Wise. || the Latin meaning is probably the intended meaning, knowing that Jayce means “healer” but the thought of Jayce being part Iranian lodged itself in my head. (One would think my being a Jew, that I would go for the Hebrew origin of the surname as I do love to project but that is a fucking stretch man and it was clear in the websites I found that name), But of course a French origin most closely aligns with the presentation of piltover. So I thought to myself “Por que no los dos?”

Jayce is terrible at learning languages, like he speaks English and Spanish as his first languages, but he struggled to learn Farsi (Persian) much to the disappointment of his paternal family (which they tried to hide of course). Jayce has to work very hard to learn a new language and Farsi is basically the only one he’s ever put the effort into. He also speaks French but terribly and the only reason he does is because it’s a fairly common language in Piltover.

Much to Jayce’s chagrin, Viktor is a wizard at learning languages. Vik’s first language is actually Czech, then he learned the other commonly spoken languages in his part of the fissure’s Polish and Russian, he learned English after those, Vik speaks German too (Zaun is German for fence, so it’s probably a common language there), when he first came to Piltover he realized it made his life easier to speak French so he did, and when he found out Jayce spoke Spanish and Farsi, he decided to learn them too. (Viktor hates being left out of conversation) Jayce nearly had a heart attack when he was speaking to his cousin in Farsi and vik piped in with only his normal level of accent.

Jayce never actually thought about wanting kids. Yeah once the idea was presented to him he was all over it but as a kid and young adult he never once thought about it.

Viktor on the other hand always knew he wanted kids, and basically only liked the idea of womanhood through the lens of motherhood.

Jayce can cook but he cannot bake (Viktor is of course a wonderful baker)

Jayce was definitely a chubby kid

Jayce’s love language is touch and acts of service (this is basically canon anyway)

when jayce is talking about viktor to his mom he says "viktor es enfermo" which would mean viktor is constantly sick and this is an unchanging state

confused, ximena tries to correct him and say "viktor está enfermo", this is more like a changing state - he's going to recover - typically what is said in spanish

cue jayce having to tell his mother that, no, he's correct and viktor isn't going to recover

i actually feel so bad for other latam jayvik fans, especially dark skinned/brown latam jayvik fans because you clearly see them talking about racism in the ship and decide to speak over them. like you know what they are talking about regarding jayce and the racism that he goes through with always being a top and hyper masc, but instead of empathizing with other latam jayvik fans who are already facing racist harassment, you just take their words, mock them and try to derail them. and the sad thing is that it is just a small amount of latam jayvik fans calling out racism. literally the vast majority of the fanbase ships a hyper masc jayce as top with a hyper fem viktor as a bottom. nothing is going to change that. so a few small latam jayvik fans talking about how it makes the uncomfortable doesn't warrant you putting them on blast. latino jayvik fans alraedy go through so much, so it's disgusting seeing another latam jayvik fan speak over them. but anything for fandom clout i guess.

But if you ask idk, my Mexican mother who happens to be homophobic, transphobic and hate women, she would say that Jayce looks like a joto (like fag but in Spanish) and that nowadays all the men are just pretty boys or gay so, you can see why I don't call Jayce hypermasculine

Third: where are this latinos who complain about how making Jayce the top is racist? Most people who say this are wHite gringos and the few latinos who complain about this, haven't lived in LatAm at all. Because yes, you say is about making jayce hypermasculine and Viktor hyperfeminine, but let's be real, it's just old top/bottom discourse and you just happen to dislike Top Jayce, which woomp woomp

See the problem is that this disk horse is very gringo centric, because Jayce isn't particularly dark skinned, specially compared to other mexicans, just see Jayce vs this photo of this mexican gentleman that I found on the internet

The problem is that gringos care about whether you have the "good genes" or not, aka the "wHite genes" so they focus a lot more on your supposed genetics than what you look like, whereas in Mexico it's a lot more about colorism and how you actually look

Then for gringos, it doesn't matter that Jayce is a light moreno, they just see him as not having the "wHite genes" therefore an other no matter what

So I'm just going to ask you the impossible, to try to think in another context that isn't Gringolandia and try to understand why this discourse comes across as ridiculous to most latinos

I love that I have found the Spanish-speaking Arcane fans on tiktok bc of the general consensus that Viktor would get to experience Jayce’s Mexican culture from up-close. Not only the food, but also the music; the never ending family reunions that he’s always invited to bc Ximena forcefully adopted him; the loud conversations in heavily accented Mexican Spanish mixed with Náhuatl that make him feel like all the years he spent learning the language in HS/Uni were in vain. He gets the full package.
