Soulmates. Something you had learned about from a young age. Your parents had found each other when they were just thirteen years old and they had been inseparable ever since. Growing up hearing their story always made you long to find your soulmate. You would listen intently whenever you met someone new or went somewhere new. You dreamed of having the same story your parents did, that same sweet, unyielding love they had for each other.
Unfortunately, you didn’t find your soulmate throughout your middle school years, high school years or even in college. By the time college came around you pretty much gave up on finding your soulmate, thinking you were one of those people who just didn’t have one. You had become resigned to your fate and learned to deal with the fact that you didn’t have a soulmate. You used to get upset by the fact that there were people who had multiple soulmates, that could hear each other's thoughts. How unfair that one person can have more than one and I don’t even have one?
You of course had everyone around you, telling you that your soulmate was out there, be patient, they’ll find you when you least expect it. You had heard it all and had decided to stop listening. You were fine, you were happy on your own, besides soulmates are overrated anyway.
With this mentality you lived your life day to day, looking for little things to find the most joy in. One of those things? Your local record store. You walked in saying hello to the cashier, before heading back to browse through the records.
Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi started playing over the speakers. You smiled to yourself as you started humming along.
“I’m a cowboy on a steel horse I ride, I’m wanted (Wanted) Dead or alive, Wanted (wanted) Dead or alive…..oh and I Ride!”
God, that’s a great song.
What did you say?
You stop what you’re doing when you hear the voice. You look on either side of you and then behind you, but don’t see anyone. You shake your head at yourself.
That what was weird, guess it was all in my head.
What was?
You stop and look around again, this time you see a man who looks around your age with long, dark hair tied back and brown eyes.
“Did you just say something?” You ask, looking at him warily.
“That depends,” he replies.
“On?”
“On what you heard.”
“A question I guess, two actually,” you try to explain. You shake your head at yourself.
No, it was all just in my head.
Technically you’re right, but it's me you’re hearing.
You look up at him with wide eyes, waiting to see his mouth move with the words you’re hearing.
You can hear me, can’t you?
You shake your head in response and disbelief.
“You can!” He says aloud, excitedly. “Say something in your head again.”
I can’t believe this happening.
“This is very much happening,” he smiles widely.
You look at him still shocked and confused.
“So,” you start slowly, trying to wrap your head around this, “we’re soulmates.”
“Yes,” he smiles, “yes we are.” He laughs lightly. “You look thoroughly shocked. What did you think you’d never find me?”
“No, I didn’t,” you shake your head. “I thought I was one of those people who just didn’t have one.”
He smiles gently walking closer until he was standing right in front of you. He takes your hands in his.
“Well, love, turns out you’re one of the lucky ones.”
And that’s when you feel it. The Ties or Strings, your parents called them. They said it was like there was invisible strings that tied you to your soulmate the moment you touched. You were bound to each other.
You exhale and a smile finally graces your face.
Beautiful.
You look up to see him staring at you and your smile grows and before you know it, you’re throwing your arms around his neck and pulling him into an embrace. You feel no hesitation from him, instantly wrapping you up in his arms. You’re stunned by how right it feels to be in this strangers' arms.
You release your hold on him and he does the same. You step back with a shy smile and hold out your hand.
“I’m (Y/N), thought maybe you should know name, seeing as were soulmates and all.”
He chuckles at you and grasps your hand with his.
“Alexander, but feel free to call me, Alex.” He smiles at you. “I mean seeing as were soulmates and all.”
You laugh as your cheeks flush.
“How about we go get some coffee and get to know each other a little better,” he releases your hand only to grab your other.
You look at your intertwined hands and back up at him.
“Well, I don’t usually go out with people I've just met, but since your soulmate I guess it's alright.”
He throws his head back as he laughs and you find you like that, that he was happy, that you made him happy. It made your heart stutter in the most wonderful way.
“Come on,” he says as he pulls you along.
*
You make it to the coffee shop and Alex can’t stop smiling. You keep taking shy glances at him and it takes him a moment to realize your hands hadn’t come unclasped.
You both ask each other a stream of questions about your respective lives and find you have a similar taste in music.
“Anyway, my parents wake up and my sister and I are covered in extinguisher fluid, my brother is covered in pancake batter and my mothers favorite carpet is ruined.”
You laugh retelling the story of how you and your siblings once started a small fire while trying to make pancakes.
“Oh my god,” he laughs along in disbelief, “what did your parents do?”
“Well, we were all grounded for one week and banned from ever using the kitchen without their supervision,” you chuckle and shrug. “Wasn’t that bad if you think about it.”
He chuckles once more before turning serious.
“Is everything okay?” You ask worriedly.
“Yeah,” he nods, looking lost in thought. “Its just,” he pauses, “there’s something I want to ask you.”
“Okay.”
“Have you ever heard anyone else before?”
Your face scrunches up in confusion.
“The way I heard you today?” He nods. “No, I never have.” You pause, he still looks lost in thought, looking down at the table. “Have you?”
He looks up at you now, a small bit of fear in his eyes as his hand tightens for a moment on yours. As if he’s afraid you’ll run away.
“I”- he starts and stops. “I have.”
“You have?”
“Yes, but not just one.” He cringes as he makes his confession.
“How many?”
“Three.”
“Three?”
“I have three other soulmates,” he says quickly.
“Oh my god,” your hand slips from his for the first time since you met, as you place them on your head. “Three soulmates,” you repeat trying to wrap head around it.
It's not unheard of sure, but three. You just found out you actually had a soulmate and now he has three other soulmates.
What if they can’t hear me? What if I can’t hear them? What if I only hear one of them? Or two of them? What if they ask him to choose? I can’t ask him to give up his soulmates. What if they don’t like me? What if-
Your racing thoughts are cut off by Alex’s gentle touch on your arm.
“Hey, hey, hey,” he says trying to calm you. “Your thoughts are making me dizzy,” he chuckles.
“What if"-
“They would never make me choose and I know they’re going to love you,” he caresses your face. “Everything is going to be okay.”
You sigh, calming at his touch. He moves to sit next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pull you close.
“You don’t know that.”
“I’ve got a feeling,” he says brushing his nose against yours before kissing it.
You giggle and snuggle into him.
Everything is going to be okay.
I promise.
You smile and look up at him, he smiles down at you and kisses your forehead.
.

.
You decide it’s too much in one day to meet so many soul mates at once so you both decide to do it a few days later. You’re incredibly nervous as Alex walks you up the steps to the apartment, he shares with his other soul mates and quite possibly yours.
He turns to you.
"You sure you're ready for this?"
You nod and give him a nervous smile.
He smiles and kisses your hand in his.
"I told them to be on their best behavior, so don't worry."
You chuckle lightly and squeeze his hand.
You take a deep breath as he opens the door. And you're immediately greeted with an onslaught of thoughts.
Oh, they’re back.
She’s finally here.
Gosh, I really hope all of this works.
Everything is going to be fine, don't worry.
Oui, mon cher, we'll all be alright.
Remember Alex wanted us to try and quiet our thoughts so we don't overwhelm her.
You pause in the doorway as you hear them all at once.
Alex grabs your arms to steady as you sway a bit.
"Are you okay, love?"
You laugh to yourself as you gain your balance and you realize you don't have to worry. You can hear them. All three of them in your head, three distinctive voices. Not only that, but you can feel the same pull you felt with Alex. The strings tying you to your three other soulmates. You look up at Alex.
"I can hear them," you say with a breathless smile.
Four soulmates, there's something I never thought would happen.
"You can?" He smiles brightly at you.
You nod with the same smile.
"You better start believing baby because we can hear you too."
You and Alex turn to see your three other soulmates, three of the most handsome men you've ever seen.
The tallest one comes to greet you. His smile is gentle and warm, you're surprised by how much you want to run into his arms.
"It’s wonderful to meet you, Alex has told us so much about you. My name is Hercules." He gently takes your hand in his and kisses the back of your hand softly.
I don’t think I’ve ever met so many handsome men at once before.
Hercules smiles at you still holding your hand.
"Well, thank you," he chuckles. "I don’t think we’ve ever been graced with a woman as beautiful as you."
Your cheeks redden as you realize they all heard the thought.
You look behind him to see the two other men smiling from ear to ear. They are next to approach you, the one with the French accent is the first to introduce himself.
"I am Gilbert du Montier de Lafayette." He chuckles as your eyes widen. "But you, mon ange, can call me Lafayette."
He kisses your hand, much like Hercules and gives you a dazzling smile.
"And me, baby girl, I’m John Laurens, call me anything you'd like."
I cannot wait to hold you in my arms.
You smile at him.
“Well consider your waiting done.” You hold out your arms to him and he is quick to embrace you. You giggle as he nuzzles your neck. You’re once again surprised by how right it feels to be in his arms.
Lafayette is next to embrace you after John is convinced to let you go, he quickly goes into Alex’s waiting embrace. Laf holds you close and releases a breath, like he’s been waiting just to hold you and he can finally relax. He kisses your temple before he pulls away and lets Hercules have his turn.
Herc embraces you gently at first, as if your too precious to hold too tightly. He holds you tighter, when you nuzzle into his chest.
I hope you can get used to this, cupcake, because it won’t be letting up.
Get used to this? Definitely.
He chuckles and kisses the top of your head and pulls away slightly to look at you. He caresses your face as you look up at him.
“You sure you can handle all of us?”
You look away from Hercules and at your three other soulmates, staring at you expectantly with hopeful smiles.
“Can I handle being loved by four incredibly handsome and kind men?” You pretend to think about it, as they laugh. “Yeah,” you nod, “I think I can handle that.”

6 Months Later...
I’m late, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late.
You hear Alex’s voice running through your mind, as you get ready on this particularly hectic morning since you all woke up late.
“Shouldn’t he be thinking we’re late,” John says as he slides next to you to fill his thermos with coffee as you hand him Alex’s ready to go. “We do work in the same place.”
You chuckle as you place a soft kiss to his lips and then his cheek.
“You know how one track minded Alex can be,” you placate him, rubbing his arm.
He pulls you into his arms and kisses your cheek and down to your neck.
“I think I might being getting one track minded with you,” he whispers in your ear making laugh breathlessly.
You pull him away slightly with a smile.
“Your mind should be on work,” you give him a quick kiss before pulling way completely and fixing his suit.
He sighs.
“But when we get back my minds going back,” he smirks and kisses your cheek.
“That’s fair,” you laugh. “Now, you have to get going.”
You walk behind him and lightly push him out of the kitchen.
“Alex, darling, breakfast,” you catch him just as he’s running past you to the door.
You hold out a bag for him to take and he grabs it quickly and continues, before pausing turning back and pulling you into his arms and kissing tenderly. He’s pulls away smiling.
“Thank you,” he says as he gives you a last quick peck. “I love you,” he shouts as he walks out the door.
John shakes his head and pulls you into him for a quick kiss of his own.
‘We’ll see you tonight, baby girl,” he kisses your cheek before heading out after Alex.
You laugh to yourself and turn right into Lafayette's arms.
“Have our frantic lovers left, mon ange?” He asks, as he pulls you close and nuzzles your neck.
You giggle softly and play with his hair as he hums into your neck.
“Yes, they just walked out, although I have to say one was far more hectic than the other.”
He feel him laugh into your neck before he pulls back to place a slow, soft kiss to your lips.
“I can’t believe we have to work on a Saturday,” he sighs, resting his forehead against yours.
“I’m sorry, my love, but at least we’ll all have tonight and tomorrow to spend all together,” you try to soothe him.
He nods and caresses your cheek.
“At least,” he kisses you softly once more, before going to the bedroom.
He walks back out a few minutes later. You’re at the table finishing your coffee, and he lifts your head so you’re looking up at him. You smile and rise up from your seat so you can embrace him. He wraps his arms around you kisses your neck once.
“I will miss you, mon ange,” he says brushing some of your hair from your face.
“The day will fly by, and we’ll all be here waiting when you’re done.”
You smile gently and press your lips to his for a soft kiss.
“Now, go before you’re late, my love.”
He smiles and kisses your hand before heading for the door. You turn to head back to the kitchen, when his voice whispers in your mind.
I love you, mon coeur.
You smile as you turn back to him and think your response.
I love you.
He smiles brightly at you before closing the door behind him. As you begin washing the dishes from the quick breakfast you and Herc made this morning, you feel his arms circle around your waist. He kisses your shoulder as you lean into him.
“I’m glad I only have to go in a couple hours today.”
“I know at least I get one of you for most of the day,” you reply turning in his arms. “That's the benefit of having multiple soulmates, you’ll always have one of them with you.”
He laughs and kisses your temple, cheek and places a tender kiss to your lips.
“Truly a wonderful benefit, cupcake,” he bumps your nose with his before lifting you into his arms.
“Babe!” You giggle in surprise.
“I think we should get in some quality cuddles while we miss our soulmates together.”
“A wise suggestion, love,” you nod seriously in agreement.
He smiles wide as he jumps on the bed with you in his arms making you laugh in unison.
*
Later that evening as you’re snuggled in bed with all your lovers you sigh in contentment.
Happy, baby girl?
You laugh as you snuggle deeper into Johns chest.
With all of you? Always.
He pulls you closer and kisses the top of your head.
I am also happiest with you, mes amours.
Laf chimes in, from behind John.
I love you all so much.
Alex is next to think out from behind you.
Nothing is better than this.
Herc is the last to say, as you all snuggle in closer.
You never thought you could be lucky enough to end up with one soulmate, but now you had four and they were they best people you had ever met. You had never felt more loved, more cherished, or more complete in your life. Of course, you could say that’s a given once you’ve found your soulmate, but you’re pretty positive you’ve got the best ones out there. And as you slip into sleep you’re further convinced of the fact as you hear a gentle chorus of ‘I love yous’ in your mind.

Hey!! Can you try and write an imagine where John laurens and his girlfriend get in a fight because he goes into that duel (idk the name of the guy he fought) and that results in her giving him The silent treatment? Hope this is a good idea 🥺
i absolutely can try write this! it’s a great idea bby don’t be shy!
______________
“Baby, please don’t be like this,” John pleaded, taking my hands in his. “Charles Lee is too free with his slander, he deserves to pay!”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, you’ve told me several times. I just don’t get why it has to be you. It’s not you he’s insulting, it’s Washington, and he’s fine with it. It’s not even you who wanted to duel!”
I took my hands away to fuss with the arrangement of flowers on the mantlepiece above the cold fireplace. Fucking Hamilton, dragging John into his arguments. John sighed, and I knew that he was about to go into his ideas of honour, how he needed to do this, that he would defend his commander’s honour to the death.
“Just don’t, John. I don’t want to hear it again,” I snapped. “Duels are stupid, you’re supposed to be a man of intelligence, so is Hamilton, for goodness’ sake I don’t want you to die!”
John bristled. “Have you no faith in my marksmanship? Do you think he will kill me, that coward?” He turned away, sitting on the sofa. His hands ran over his face in exhaustion, tired of the repetition that had been between you for the past hour.
“I just don’t like the idea that you could be shot by someone! Or that you could kill someone! I think that’s a reasonable fear!” I frowned at the flowers, and gave up trying to make them look nice. I turned and glared at John. “Forgive me for not wanting the man I love to be buried six feet under because of some honour bullshit that could have been worked out over a cup of tea.”
John rolled his eyes, clearly getting more and more irritated by the minute. “I’m still going to go.” He glanced at the clock. “And I’m going now, I have to meet Hamilton in ten minutes,” he said pointedly, getting up and shrugging on his coat. “Can I get a kiss for good luck?”
He placed a hand lightly on my waist and leaned his face close to mine. At the last second, I turned my head to the side so his lips met my cheek instead. “Are you... being serious?” John sputtered in disbelief. I was silent, not looking in his eyes, arms crossed over my chest. He backed away. “Are you not even going to say goodbye?”
Rather than reply, I stalked over to the desk in the room and sat down, picking up a pen and starting to write a letter or pretending to write. John stared at me, eyes wide. It took him a minute to turn and leave, just turning around and walking out the door. Clearly, I’d pushed his patience too far, and his fiery temperament had decided to leave before he began shouting.
The door slammed shut behind him and I let out a breath I didn’t realise I was holding. My head was in my hands and anxiety flowed through my body. Oh god, the possibility of John actually dying hit me full force and I let out a choked sob. Tears began to fall down my cheeks and my stomach twisted into a knot so tight I thought I was going to be sick.
My thoughts spiralled, and I don’t know how long I was sat at the desk. All I knew was oh god he’s dead he’s going to be shot the man I love is going to die and I didn’t even say goodbye, didn’t even kiss him one last time.
It was dark by the time I heard the front door open. It took a lot of effort to lift my head, and I was prepared to see Alexander Hamilton with bad news. In the doorway, holding a bunch of roses, stood John Laurens.
I ran towards him, and he caught me in a tight embrace. I breathed in his scent, dampening his jacket with my tears. John laughed. “Hey beautiful, I’m back. All in one piece.”
I pulled back slightly to hit his chest. “You asshole, I was so worried about you!”
John held me tighter. “I know, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let you worry for so long,” he whispered, placing gentle kisses onto my hair.
Wiping my eyes, I pulled away, taking the flowers and replacing the ones already there. He came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his head on my shoulder. “I promise, darlin’, I will try not to get into any more duels. I’m sorry I made you worry.”
I turned with his arms still around me, my arms now around his neck. “Thank you, baby, and thank you for the flowers, they’re beautiful.”
“Do I get a kiss now?” John teased me, a smile playing on his lips. I laughed lightly, and nodded my head. He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. They were soft as always, moving against mine and I sighed happily.
He pulled away, pecking my lips one last time. “Love you baby.”
“Love you too.”

First of all I am white writer and I write my fics to be inclusive but there may be things that I may not realize are excluding people because I’ve had the privilege of not being excluded so if you notice anything then please message me and I’ll be more than happy to edit it. second i wrote this at 3 am and even if nobody reads it i’ll probably make a pt2 but lemme know.
i kinda picked and choosed what i wanted to use from hamilton and real life so obviously not historically accurate
There’s nothing quite like summer in the city, children running in the streets, the sound of hooves on the brick laid roads, and the hot sun shining down on busy men and women. You had just moved into the city with your father but soon after you arrived your father was called away to join the fight in Georgia. You were left behind with only your housekeeper who functioned as a Nanny when you were a child. Your mother had died when you were very young and your father worked so Joan was the closest thing to family you had. Before your father left he gave you three instructions.
One, the city can be a dangerous place for a young beautiful girl, don’t go downtown.
Two, if you must stray from the house never go anywhere unaccompanied.
Three, the revolutionists are reckless and ruinous, stay away.
Your father was a smart man but often worried too much especially for you. It took nearly three days to convince Joan to let you leave the house.
“I will come with you then, just let me finish my chores, and then we may go, but we are staying uptown, it’s nice here, awfully quiet too.” She said when she finally caved. You thanked her profusely but unbeknownst to her when she turned her back to you, you slipped out the back door.
When your father left he took the carriage with him and the coachman had not yet returned so you had to walk into the city. You weren’t complaining though, the weather was warm and the fresh air was refreshing after a week of house arrest. As you approached the downtown district of Manhattan you noticed a noticeable drop in wealth due to many of its residents being either college students, revolutionists, or merchants. A young man stood on a soapbox in the city square ranting about the unjust taxes and the recent events in Boston while a large crowd cheered around him. Propaganda flyers were hung on every storefront and street lamp, you took one and quickly shoved it into the bottom of your basket next to a small bag of coins.
For about 20 minutes you strolled around going between stands of vendors selling fruits, fans, furniture, and everything in between.
You stopped at the stand of a man selling vegetables and began picking out a few. You clearly felt a presence behind you but stayed focused on your task.
“What is a pretty young lady like you doin’ in the city all by herself.” The presence spoke smoothly. You looked up from under the brim of your hat to see a man around your age maybe a few years older. His curly black hair was tied up tightly at the back of his head. Your eyes then traveled to the rich blue coat he proudly wore.
“Minding my own business.” You said flatly as you turned back to what you were doing.
“You know there are a lot of dangerous people out here who might want to take advantage of such a pretty girl.” He said clearly thinking he was very smooth.
“Is that so?” You responded as you paid for your goods. Maybe you were naive but he didn’t seem threatening, he seemed young, reckless, and a flirt which could be just as bad.
“Yes ma’am, maybe I should be your escort to-” He began again but you cut him off.
“What’s your name, sir.” You asked him curtly and for once turned to fully face him.
“John Laurens.” He tipped his head to you.
“Don’t you have something to protest Mr. Laurens.” You brushed past him and continued down the street but he was quick to follow you.
“I’m a wonderful multitasker.” He chuckled softly at his own joke. You wanted to hate him, you wanted to believe everything your father said about revolutionists but this man was charming and had a gravitational pull that was nearly impossible for you to resist. You knew if he stopped following you then you would follow him, you just hoped he didn’t know that. “I’ve never seen you around here before.”
“Is that supposed to be a question, Mr. Laurens.” From the side of your vision, you could see the grin on his face, he liked having you riled up. “My father and I just moved uptown.”
“So a rich pretty girl.” He said to himself with the full intention of you hearing to which you scoffed.
“Am I wrong?” He stepped out in front of you locking his honey brown eyes with yours. You simply rolled your eyes in protest. “That’s what I thought.” His smirk was so genuine and charming it made you smile back to which he beamed brightly.
“So what does the pretty girl’s father do for such wealth.” He posed.
“Old money.” You stated simply to avoid the topic but he was clearly not satisfied. “He’s a general.” You stared intently over at him to gauge his reaction. John immediately stopped in his tracks and the smirk on his fell.
“I take it we’re on different sides of the war.” He nodded slowly not meeting your eyes. His sudden quietness intrigued you, it seemed like that would have only made him mouthier.
“That’s right.” Your voice was nearly inaudible but your beg for him not to turn away was loud enough for him to stay even for just a moment longer. You were not content with those being your last words so you continued: “My father believes that the King is a just one.”
You chose your words intentionally, hoping he would take the bait yet shocked when he did.
“And what do you believe?” You didn’t quite know how to respond to his question. No one had ever asked for your political opinion, especially not a man.
“Well,” The small grin was already appearing on your face. “The price of tea is far too high nowadays.” The smile was quick to come to his face though he played it off with a joking scoff and eye roll.
“So, does the beautiful young lady have a name?”
“Y/n.”
“Y/n,” He repeated your words testing it out to see if he liked it, apparently he did because the next thing he asked was where the two of you were headed next.
You went to the silversmith, and he talked about growing up on a plantation in South Carolina and the things he saw happen to his father’s slaves. You went to the bakery and he told you his dreams of giving those men their freedom so they could join him in fighting in the war. You found him more endearing the longer you talked to him. You let your guard down and showed him your interest in what he had to say and you no longer tried to hide the laughs and smiles that he pulled out of you.
“What about you?” He asked as he held the door to the general store open for you.
“What about me?” You asked promptly.
“Oh, come on, I’ve done nothing but talk, you have to return the favor.” His smirk grew quickly. You simply rolled your eyes but let yourself smile to show that you found the joke at least a little funny.
“There’s not much to tell until two weeks ago I stayed in my home back in London and did what I was asked.” You explained. “Will you grab the jam jar on the top shelf for me?” You could probably reach it but you wanted to see how quickly he would please you. He in fact did follow your request but not before taking a step closer to you, pressing you against the shelf as he reached over you to grab the jar above your head.
“You don’t seem like the type to quietly obey.” John’s voice was low, lower than you’d ever heard it before and quiet enough so that you were the only one who heard his words. He did this on the purpose of course, what he said was only for you. He brought his hand down to give you the jar, your hand resting on his for just a moment. That’s when you realized this was the first time you’d touched, and now that’s all you wanted to do and the brushing of hands wasn’t nearly enough. As you went to stutter out an answer the shouting that was coming through the front door pulled both of you out of your moment.
“Y/n M/n L/n, there you are, oh my god!” Joan ran straight for you. Her pale cheeks flushed and grey hair falling loose from her low bun. “I thought you’d run away, do you know how upset your father will be?”
“Father isn’t here, you don’t have to tell him anything.” You proposed.
“Is this your mother?” John interjected as he held his hand out for her to take.
“No, she’s my handler.” You said with a hint of annoyance. Joan gave John her hand and he promptly placed a kiss on the back of it, you felt yourself become envious of her hand. Her cheeks turned bright red, you were sure she would tell you about how she hasn’t gotten this much attention from men since she was 20.
“Joan this is John Laurens, John Laurens this is Joan.” You nearly groaned out. Joan quickly spoke up again right when you saw her eyes fall on Johns’s coat.
“Oh my! Y/n we must be headed home now!” She grabbed your hand and began to drag you to the door.
“Joan, Joan!” You shouted for attention before dangling your basket in front of her face.
“I’ll pay for these.” She took the basket from your hands. “You wait outside.” She shooed you away. You exited the shop making sure that John was following.
“Maybe we should make a run for it.” You turned to John as he chuckled.
“I don’t think so, you’ll give the poor woman a heart attack.” He said then a silence fell between you. “I don’t want this to be the last time I see you though.”
“Neither do I.” You said softly.
“May I write you?” John quickly turned towards you, swooping your hands into his and holding them close to his heart.
“Yes.” You nodded as you stared intently and how he held you. “John, this won’t be easy, my father would never-”
“I know.” He said simply as he smiled at you and for just a moment you didn’t care about what your father would say.
“Alright, Y/n, it’s time for us to head home,” Joan said as she came out the door.
“Goodbye, Y/n.” He took your hand and placed a kiss on the back of it.
“Goodbye, John Laurens.”

Alexander had just gotten married, and none of his friends could believe it. Alexander Hamilton, the first of their friends to get married? Unbelievable. Yet here they were, at the reception of his wedding, getting drunk on cheap whisky as their friend and his new wife cut into their wedding cake.
“If that tomcat can get married, there’s hope for our asses after all,” Laurens chuckled, downing more of his drink. Lafayette and Mulligan chuckled in response, lifting their glasses slightly in a sort of toast.
Alexander made his way over to his friends, wearing a wide grin and toting a beer in a shiny mug. “How’s it going, fellas?”
Lafayette laughed softly. “Raise a glass to freedom…”
“Something you will never see again,” added Laurens.
“No matter what she tells you…” Mulligan raised his glass. Alexander chuckled.
“You guys are pretty drunk, huh?”
“Let’s have another round!” Lafayette perked up, waving the waiter over to ask for more -- yes more, no he wasn’t too drunk -- drinks. Laurens let his eyes wander the room as he downed the remains of his glass, looking for something he wasn’t sure of yet.
The waiter brought another round of drinks, and Mulligan lifted a glass. “To the newly not poor of us!” Lafayette snorted, and he and the rest of the men swallowed their drinks quickly, feeling the alcohol burn their throats. It was after he put down his glass that Laurens saw her -- the most beautiful girl in the room. She was talking to the bride, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, and enjoying a slice of cake despite her corset. Laurens found himself mesmerized, unable to look away…
“What are you looking at there, Laurens?” Alexander put an arm around his friend and followed his line of sight toward the girl. “Ah, I see little Johnny has found a lady he likes…” Lafayette and Mulligan “ooh”ed, and Laurens shook his head.
“Nah, lay off, fellas. She’ll never go for a ruffian like me.”
Mulligan chipped in. “Well, like you said, if Alexander can get married…”
Laurens smiled. “There’s hope for our asses after all.”
Alexander patted him on the shoulder. “That’s Y/N Schuyler, Elizabeth’s cousin. She’ll love you, bud. Just...drink some water before you head over, okay? You reek of whisky and disappointment.” Lafayette snickered.
Laurens stood up, downing the rest of his glass and slamming it on the table with newfound determination. “That girl is mine.” He walked away to the sounds of his friends cheering, gaze locked onto the welcoming eyes of his future wife.
