Bake a Cake
∟ Prompt: Cook [I’ll write a drabble of our characters cooking together]
∟ Featuring: Titus Edenthaw
"You're such a momma's boy, you silly. Are you ready for cake?"
Magnus just looked up at her and babbled on in his baby talk, making her smile again. "Alright, Mister Munchkin, down you go. Momma needs her hands," she said, placing him on the floor so he could run off to play with his blocks next to the kitchen table.
She got to adding some ingredients when she saw Titus making his way down the stairs. He caught her eye and hurried over, embracing her. "Baking?" he asked after looking at the ingredients before her.
"Mmhm." Laurel grinned wide and opened the jar of frosting just to put some on the tip of his nose. "Cake, to be more specific. Care to help?" She knew he was a terrible baker, but she figured he could use the practice.
Titus shrugged and let out a breath. "Oh, why not? Don't blame me if the cake ends up complete rubbish." He took the whisk from Laurel and began to mix the bowl as she pushed it in front of him.
Laurel grabbed the rest of the ingredients and the power whisker, putting them into the bowl. "You ready to graduate to the next level?" she asked with a small laugh, holding up the mixer.
"Um..." Titus looked at the thing as though it were a torture device. It definitely looked like a torture device. "Uh, if you say so, love. Should I put on an apron?" He looked down at his dress shirt and pants, frowning.
Laurel just smiled and kissed his cheek, grabbing the white apron off of the oven handle. She slipped it over his head and tied it around the front for him, keeping her arms wrapped around him for a few moments after. "Better, hon?"
"Much." Titus moved to the side enough so that he could kiss her cheek. She moved to lean on the counter next to him, smiling knowingly as she waited for him to turn on the mixer. "Laurel, don't look at me like that. Is this thing rigged to explode?"
She burst out laughing. "No. No, it isn't. Here." She scooted in front of him and took the mixer, turning it on. She started to mix it before she grabbed his hand, having take hold of it instead. "Now you just mix it until it's smooth. It'll get on you and the counters, don't worry."
To Titus's surprise, he got the batter mixed into a smooth mixture within minutes. He managed to turn the demon torture device mixer off and he placed it in the sink, letting out a breath.
"You did good, honey," Laurel teased, kissing his cheek again. She took the batter and placed it into the baking sheets, slipping them into the oven to cook.
They waited for their cake to bake and played with Magnus on the kitchen floor until it was done. Laurel held Magnus in her arms, watching Titus attempt to frost the thing, but he only kept making a mess of himself. She could only laugh, though, as she took over and got the frosting on evenly.
"Looks wonderful, Mrs. Edenthaw," Titus said into her ear before kissing her hair.
"Thank you, Mr. Edenthaw. Though I should be thanking you for making the cake in the first place." She booped Magnus on the nose and he scrunched his face at her, looking to Titus.
"Dadda..." Magnus said, holding his arms out, which made Laurel laugh.
"C'mere," Titus said with a chuckle, taking Magnus into his arms. "Don't let momma tease you, Magnus, or she will never stop." He gave the toddler a kiss on the head as he babbled on in his baby talk.
Laurel pouted at Titus and she knew he saw her because of the grin on his face. She punched his arm playfully and grabbed a knife to cut the cake and she cut two slices for them. "Come on, let's eat our cake before you two start plotting against me." She kissed her husband's cheek. "Thank you for helping with the cake, Titus."
