Tom Hardy Movies rated least to most queer
I made a list of some Tom Hardy movies and I rated them based on my own, non-specific criteria about what makes a movie queer. Results below the cut.
(Some films not included, because I haven’t watched them yet, because Mr Hardy’s only in them for a few minutes, because the subject matter doesn’t lend itself to this list, or because I just don’t want’em here. TV series also not included. The list is organised into both groups and ratings, because I’m doing The Most.)
Movies are divided into four groups and rated from 0 – 10 on the Queer-Scale, scroll down to the bottom if you want the ratings without the commentary.
Disclaimer: This list is subjective. Don’t come at me because I didn’t rate Inception higher, Nolan himself is as queer as cargo shorts.
1. This movie would make more sense if it were queer
If this movie were queer it… might not become a perfect film all of a sudden, but it’d make a hell of a lot more sense than what’s actually going on. With an occasional dose of “are the cis-straights okay?”
This Means War (2012): So Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are ostensibly both in love with Reese Witherspoon, but say “I love you” to each other pretty much constantly throughout the movie and their friendship is often presented as a domestic partnership. Cool, cool, cooool.
Queer Rating: 2 out of 10. This movie hate-crimed me by having Tom Hardy literally spell out his relationship with Chris Pine, only for the script to then have him say… “can you imagine all that… but with a woman…” Later on the movie explicitly denies polyamory is possible. Fuck this film.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012): Batman movies should always be queer. Mr. Hardy’s the only one who acceptably camps it up, despite Nolan’s best attempts to make him “acceptably gruff.” No matter what you do, Bane is a massive daddy in a mask and thanks to Mr Hardy’s honestly iconic fucking speech pattern in this film, it goes from pretty atrociously straight to just queer enough to imagine a future where Robert Pattinson plays batman and maybe adopts a bunch of kids.
(the only truly decent mask in this franchise tbh)
Queer Rating: 3 out of 10. Mr Hardy’s back is the one that’s actually broken carrying any semblance of fun in this overly long movie all on his own.
Lawless (2012): Wow, this really was the year of the not-queer-enough, wasn’t it? Look, it’s “based on a real story,” but it’s also a movie and movies don’t need to stick to the truth, and this one certainly doesn’t. Was the guy queer in real life? I don’t know. But that doesn’t matter, what matters is that it’s just kind of an eh movie and maybe being queer would add something to it. One of those “but why make someone queer? because it’s always more interesting to do so,” movies.
Queer Rating: 3 out of 10. It’s just not queer. But Tom Hardy wears cardigans and described his character as a “mother figure,” which adds an interesting dynamic to him.
2. Actually Queer but in a homophobic way
Tom Hardy plays a canonically queer character, yaaay. The whole movie contains a strange sense of the director being too not-queer to actually engage with that and everything around him is almost aggressively straight, noooo.
RocknRolla (2008): Honestly this movie has the funniest coming out scene ever + that familiar undertone of “all these manly men secretly want to fuck each other” is only heightened by one of them actually being gay and in love with his best friend. It’s such a fucking… it’s such a movie. Personally I find Mark Strong, Idris Elba, Thandie Newton, and, of course, Tom Hardy to be really hot in it, so that’s a plus. There’s a scene in which Strong’s character teaches another gangster how to do a proper backhand. It’s really gay of him. Also slow-dancing at a gay club. Butler’s character needs to get himself together, you really don’t think 2008 Tom Hardy is hot? Mate.
(left to right: functional queer, disaster queer, distinguished queer)
Queer Rating: 6 out of 10, for having an actual gay character who is played by Tom Hardy doing a sexy phonecall voice to another guy, but then there’s that feeling you can’t shake that the whole movie is vaguely uncomfortable about it, like a family member awkwardly patting you on the shoulder after they found out you were queer second-hand, but they’ve still got 50 years of bias to unlearn. Also Thandie Newton is killed, fuck that noise.
Legend (2015): If I had a nickle for the amount of times Tom Hardy’s played a gay gangster, I’d have two nickles. Which isn’t a lot, but weird that it happened twice (looks at Peaky Blinders and thinks it ought to be three times). I’ve watched Legend three times and every time it just… loses me. And because this is a biased list, I’ll only specifically mention that it fails to make Ron’s queerness anything but a way for him to shock others. Gangsters could be gay? Gasp! On the upside Tom Hardy has so much sexual tension with everyone in this movie, including himself (why would you do that? Asks Ron, bemused. Because I can’t kill you, no matter how much I fucking want to, hisses a blood-soaked Reggie right into his ear. It’s hot).
Queer rating: 5 out of 10 because the film is just not very queer for a movie with several queer men in it.
3. Straight as a forced family dinner
It’s straight.
Locke (2013): He’s a married man who had an affair and trying to deal with the fallout of it. This isn’t a spoiler for most of the movie, it’s a pretty neat movie where we look at Tom Hardy having a bit of a mental breakdown and taking lots of phonecalls (my personal hell). Is it queer? Not in the slightest.
Queer Rating: 2 out of 10 for Hardy’s face being in almost every shot.
The Revenant (2015): Yeah, yeah, DeCaprio’s and Hardy’s characters are obsessed with each other, yeah it’s a man’s world where the only women are dead wife, kidnapped sexually assaulted native princess, or background whore, yeah, they fight each other and there’s a ton of grunting, but also… I just fucking don’t like this movie. The thin line where a storyline like this one becomes queer might be crossed for others, but not for me. Fuck these guys and their stupid bear fights.
Queer rating: 3 out of 10 for it being about dirty men in the middle of nowhere (but you could just watch Brokeback Mountain or The Lighthouse or God’s Own Country or any Mad Max, or, or, or…)
4. Queer? Queer. Queer? … Queer…
The plots, aesthetics and/or characters played by Tom Hardy lend themselves to a queer reading, even if there is no overt intention towards queerness. Often this is because of a deliberate lack of heterosexual and/or cisgender writing, which in this day and age is still pretty uncommon not to include within a plot.
Inception (2010): Okay, I don’t even need to write about the added “darling,” or the “go to sleep Mr Eames.” I don’t need to go on about the absolutely bonkers amount of fanfiction written for Eames and Arthur, based on a few minutes of film and a boatload of chemistry. It’s queer.
Queer Rating: 7 out of 10, because the actual plot of the film isn’t very queer, but between the Arthur/Eames dynamic and Elliot Page, Nolan was really given a gift he didn’t deserve.
Warrior (2011): Okay, so first off, this might be my favourite Tom Hardy film, at least some part of my brain is fixated on it at almost all times and I’m considering watching it for the third time in two weeks. I don’t only consider it queer based on Mr. Hardy’s character, although he has no romantic or sexual interest and could be read as aroace, but because of the themes, especially those surrounding said character, who is coded as a caregiver to women and through close emotional connections to men. It’s got possibly unintentional deconstructions of masculinity and two men (brothers) who need to forgive each other and can only do so through the catharsis of violence. It speaks to me as a transmasc with several cis brothers, struggling with my own masculinity. It’s not at all written for me, but I find myself all over it. I could talk about this movie forever.
Queer Rating: 8 out of 10. I’m not allowed to say any more or I’ll never stop writing about it. I love you Tommy…
The Drop (2014): Bob’s lack of sexual and/or romantic interest in Naomi is so strange to her that she doesn’t know what he would want from her otherwise. Bob really just wants to raise a dog with her (and also forgiveness for past sins). Bob is such a rare ace and possibly aro coded character, it really throws me every time I watch this film how obvious it is. Bonus points for also being autistic-coded and not in the stereotypical ways.
(Tom Hardy’s most challenging role: pretending he doesn’t know dogs)
Queer Rating: 9 out of 10 because it’s so fucking rare to see ace and aro coded characters that aren’t, you know…. serial killers. Also Tom Hardy adopts a puppy and has a very cute, kinda lispy voice. How often does Tom Hardy play softer men like this?
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015): Very deliberately no sexual or romantic writing included in Max’s and Furiosa’s relationship. Sure, there’s not a lot of time for that in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, but it was also done with a purpose! “It was always going to be two warriors on par, starting off with very little respect for each other and ending up with a massive respect for each other.” - Charlize Theron. “So of course they meet, of course there’s a relationship, an unspoken understanding. A recognition.” - Tom Hardy.
Queer Rating: 9 out of 10. It’s not just the characters, but the world and it’s apocalyptic BDSM leather scene, the questions it asks about sustainability and about people as tools, and the found family. It’s about overcoming violence through multiple kinds of love. And it’s about watching a guy playing flame-thrower guitar. What could be queerer?
Venom (2018): Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same… No, but Eddie is queer. The only question is whether the sequel will acknowledge that aspect or not, but even if not. Even if it manages to straightly bypass the reality of a symbiotic relationship with a genderless? genderfluid? being from another world that is linked to you down to your very cells and understands you more intimately than any other person possibly could… even if all that: Eddie is queer. Venom and Eddie are in a relationship. Any relationship Eddie ever enters into will automatically become a thrupple. He makes out with Venom in the movie! Eddie is queer.
(aw yeah that tongue is going down his throat)
Queer Rating: 9.5 out of 10, because it’s still coded by the creators in the language of bromance (hey, bro, is it gay if we’re physically and emotionally closer than any other people on earth?), but the movie is so, so camp and Mr Hardy’s acting choices are beautiful – the screaming? The lispy soft voice and lack of taking up space? The lobster tank? The only people who don’t know how queer this is are the people making it apparently. Fingers crossed for that sequel!
Hon. mentions:
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002): Star Trek – even at it’s worst (especially at its worst?) – is camp af + Hardy is a straight-up baby in this film.
Bronson (2008): It’s about a real person who’s still alive, so I won’t comment on the actual man. However the film seems to code the character Bronson along an ace line and also has genderqueering Vaudeville. Someone let Tom Hardy do more of whatever was going on in those stage-bits.
(this right here: this the good shit)
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011): Another ensemble piece not massively about Hardy’s character, but it’s a movie that centers around queerness in a strange, depressing way. Tom Hardy’s character isn’t queer. Colin Firth and Mark Strong are though. The book makes me cry.
Peaky Blinders (2013-): Because it’s a TV series I left it out. There’s a lot of straight nonsense going on there, but Alfie Solomens is gay. There’s nothing in the series that disputes that and plenty that lends itself to the reading.
Dunkirk (2017): Tom Hardy plays an RAF pilot in a deep emotional connection with the other main RAF pilot. That’s immediately gay. However he’s not in the movie much because of the way it’s constructed, so I left it off.
Queer Ratings (least to most)
No queer to be found here traveller:
This Means War: 2 out of 10 - illegal movie, Tom Hardy swore he wouldn’t do another rom-com after
Locke: 2 out of 10 - straight Welshman and his straight problems. He pretty though
Lawless: 3 out of 10 - cardigan-Hardy being a mother-hen, but very straight for all that
The Dark Knight Rises: 3 out of 10 - a superhero movie that doesn’t deserve Mr Hardy’s camp talents (unlike Venom)
The Revenant: 3 out of 10 - doesn’t give me what I want out of a movie full of dirty, bearded men
Queer but we deserve more:
Legend: 5 out of 10 - timid homosexuality, considering the source material.
RocknRolla: 6 out of 10 - hey bro, is it gay if we kill the only female lead in our massive ensemble cast
The queerest of Hardy’s:
Inception: 7 out of 10 - Elliot Page and JGL kissing was an all-around terrible choice that made no sense, we know the truth, Nolan
Warrior: 8 out of 10 - I’m still crying, Edgerton’s crying, Hardy’s crying, we’re all crying, and I think that’s really emotionally healthy and queer of us
Mad Max: Fury Road: 9 out of 10 - non-romantic love in the time of BDSM post-apocalyptic wastelands is something that can actually be so personal
The Drop: 9 out of 10 - “Fucking punk. Go out to dinner dressed like you're still in you living room! You wear those big hippity-hoppity clown shoes! You speak to women terribly! You treat them despicably! You hurt harmless dogs that can't defend themselves! I'm tired of you man. I'm tired of you. You embarrass me!”
Venom: 9.5 out of 10 - Sometimes a relationship is an anxious reporter, the sentient goo inhabiting his body, his kinda-ex-girlfriend and her new doctor boyfriend, and I think that’s beautiful
Part 2 — Blackwater Station
—————————————————————
It’s the 1930’s. Virginia is your new home and though you’re devastated that you had to move across America, your new job, or rather boss, seems to make the move a little bit easier. This will be a multi-chapter fic following the reader and her relationship with Forrest Bondurant.
Part 1 Part 3
—————————————————————
The clouds overhead rolled on by. The sun was nowhere in sight. The world around you was dark and gray opposed to how lively and colorful it had been yesterday. Leaves flew by in the wind and the mud that your boots sunk in was slippery and wet. The rain around you was pouring hard and heavy, accompanied by the loud booms of thunder and strikes of lightening that flashed across the dark sky.
When you arrived at the station, Forrest was sat on the porch, knees spread and feet squared as he stared out and into the distance, eyes latching on to you the second you came into view. Even with the rain falling relentlessly, you’d made it on time. Your hair was loose from its updo, soaking wet along with your attire. The man stood from his chair so he could flick his cigar out and into the wet dirt. You hurriedly climbed the steps, grateful for the roof overhead. You heaved a breathy sigh of relief, eyes settling on Forrest’s.
“You’re wet.” He muttered obviously.
You smiled. “You’re dry.” Hauling off your coat, you draped the fabric over the gate to let it dry before you turned back toward your boss.
“You want something else to put on?” He uttered.
Little time was given for you to reply as he moved back indoors. You followed along behind him, breaths soft. “If we’re going to be working outside, there’s no point in changing.”
The man looked to you. “Your duties are all indoors. There’s no reason for you to be working out there. It’s too dangerous.” He spoke again eyes lifting to Howard who was leaning against the bar. “Go on over there and Howard will show you what you’re meant to do mostly.” He hobbled from the room to retrieve some dry clothing for you and you made your way toward the bar.
“Well, well, well.” Howard tsked. “You survived the rain and made it here.” He set the shot glass in his hand down on the surface before lowering himself down on a chair and grunting. “Go on behind there and show me what skills you’ve got dealing with liquor.” His hands clasped together. The room was empty apart from the one Bondurant so you obliged, happy that you wouldn’t be under the surveillance of many different people. Behind the bar, your fingers shook as you lifted a few different glasses and then bottles of liquor. Lifting them one by one, you inspected the labels, squinting in the dim light to see the names better. “You’ve got no experience.” Howard pointed out.
Your eyes lifted to his, head shaking. “No, but I’m a quick learner. It can’t be too hard.”
Forrest made his way back into the room, watching the way you unscrewed the lid from one bottle and dumped the contents messily into the glass. A low humph of disguised amusement left his throat. He cradled the clothing in his hands before moving toward the bar. You were smaller than Maggie, so he didn’t think you’d fit in any of the clothes she had left behind. He brought one of her dresses just in case though and one of his old shirts. “Not sure what will work best for you, but you’re better off wearing the dress.” He spoke up as he set the clothing down on the counter.
Your concentration was pulled away from the task of making drinks and instead thrown on the articles of clothing. Did that dress belong to Maggie? You shifted slowly. You didn’t want to be working under the heated gaze of Forrest Bondurant, him envisioning his wife each time he looked to you, but you didn’t want to waltz around in nothing but one of his old shirts either so you gave a polite smile. “I’m alright in this, Mr. Bondurant, thank you.”
His eyes flickered to your dress. It was soaked. He wasn’t even sure how you were able to move in the damn thing as it clung to your body so desperately. “Really? That dress looks like it’s suffocating you.”
Your brows lifted. “It’s not.”
Howard shuffled in his seat before pushing the clothing toward you. “Just change, he won’t let off you until you do.” A heavy sigh rolled from your lips. Leaning down behind the counter, you pulled another bottle of alcohol out and continued on with making drinks. You could feel Forrest’s eyes, unwavering from you as you studied the beverages. A heavy grunt left his lips before he moved toward the bar and took a seat beside Howard. “Ten minutes to learn the drinks and then we are going to hound you about how quickly to make them.” You nodded to Howard’s words. Great.
Whiskey. Vodka. Whiskey. Moonshine. It couldn’t be that hard to remember the simple drinks, could it? They didn’t have that many. Just four different kinds. One whiskey looked darker than the other. Laying out a line of glasses, your eyes flickered between the men. “I’m ready, I don’t need ten minutes.”
Howard looked to Forrest who hadn’t pulled his gaze away from the glasses. “Alright, I want a whiskey.” Howard demanded.
“Vodka.” Forrest cut in.
“No, give me a vodka instead too then.” Howard grunted.
Forrest lifted a brow before slowly folding his arms. “Moonshine on the side and I’ve got another gent coming who’ll want a whiskey.”
Your fingers shook around the neck of the bottles as you poured them. Vodka. Vodka. Moonshine. Whiskey. You made a mess on the counter due to how quickly you were pouring the drinks. One vodka was pushed toward Howard and the other three glasses were slid toward Forrest. He gave a look of approval before looking toward Howard when he began to behave like most drunks did.
He was giving you full practice. “Where’s my whiskey?” Howard barked faux drunkenly.
You lifted a brow at his words, wiping your hands off on a napkin beneath the cabinet. “I’m sorry? You said you wanted a vodka instead.”
The man squinted at you. “Now I’m saying I want a whiskey.” A burst of annoyance flooded you, but you didn’t voice your irritation. Instead, you made him a glass of whiskey. Pushing it toward him, Howard squinted down at it. “Nah, nevermind.” He pushed it back toward you. He meant for it to spill, fall over and splash your already wet dress, just so you could see how men that came around here treated women, but you caught it smoothly.
“Alright.” You said simply before dumping the contents of untouched whiskey back into the bottle.
“You know how to handle drunks?” Forrest inquired, ushering toward Howard since he’d done a light impression of one. You lifted the rag and began to clean off the surface, stacking several of the used glasses so you could move them to the sink to be cleaned later. “
Yeah.. my father. He’s the worst drunk I’ve ever known and yet,” you sighed, directing your gaze to the men. “he’s still got a great job.”
Forrest hummed and Howard stood. “Well, you did good and one of us will always be around when it’s busy so you don’t really need to worry about them crazy drunks.” A small smile was exchanged between you and the man who spoke. Howard lifted his hat from the counter before tipping it. “Well, I’m going down to Cricket’s to get Jack. Be back in a while.” He was speaking to Forrest, so you kept your eyes low, pretending to study the bottles once more. Forrest simply hummed. You didn’t know who cricket was, but seeing as you got the job, you were sure you’d find out eventually.
———
Weeks went by. You’d worked so many shifts by this point, you were blindly making drinks. You could be thinking about being on a trip in another country and still make the drink to perfection, quicker than most men could even make their request. It was a Monday. Nobody had been in due to the horrible weather which seemed to be non-stop lately. Forrest was sat in the corner, mug of coffee situated beside his pinkie as he flipped through the pages of a wrinkled newspaper. Howard was stood in the corner, fingers gliding along the clock that hung on the wall. This was the sixth time he had tried to fix the unfixable thing, but nobody bothered trying to stop him. Jack was at the same table as Forrest, eyes low because he’d just been in some sort of trouble. Cricket, the boy who lived down the road, had come running into the station, tongue flicking this way and that as he spewed words of hatred directed toward the new deputy. You weren’t sure about anything the men were discussing and you’d learned quickly in life to never eavesdrop or butt into business that wasn’t yours so you tuned their discussion out. The conversation had ended a little while ago. Cricket went back home, but Jack still seemed fazed by whatever they’d discussed.
Howard shrunk back and away from the clock before accidentally knocking into the dresser. The radio in the corner bursted to life. A low song filled the room, loud enough to grab everyone’s attention, but soft enough to keep its romantic tune. Your dark eyes flickered to Forrest who was already looking toward you. Over the last several days when you were working, Forrest would take a seat at the bar to have a drink while he continued to work, but the pair of you always wound up lost in conversation. You did most of the flirting, but on occasion he’d flirt with you too and you’d flush a charming shade of scarlet. There was definitely a significant attraction between the two of you, but neither of you had the guts to make the first move.
Jack grinned. He was very aware of how you felt toward his brother seeing as the last time he’d shown you how to do work in the field, you’d gushed over Forrest and Jack had supported you. Howard had overhead and the three of you spent the evening talking. You babbled about your life and about Forrest and they mocked and bullied you playfully over your feelings for him and the embarrassing stories you told. “Howard.” Jack stood with a slow smile, extending his hand. “Will you be my dance partner?”
Howard smirked devilishly before directing his eyes toward Forrest. “I’ll only dance if Forrest dances, Jack.” The younger boy looked toward his older brother who hadn’t budged from his seated position.
“I aint dancing, especially not to this.” He muttered before looking away from you and back down to his task at hand.
Howard shifted. “Well, Jack, I guess you’ll have to dance with Y/N, unfortunately.”
Forrest was up in seconds at that, a little squint on his face as he looked between the other Bondurant’s. “You’re children.” He pointed out with a sigh before stepping forward so he could leave the room.
Your hips swayed sultrily as you moved out from behind the bar. Stopping Forrest just in time with a small hand to his firm chest, you gazed up at him. “I actually wanted to dance with you.”
Jack folded his arms, faking a little glare. “Well, Howard, you’re back to being my partner.” Howard sighed now. He really was stuck dancing.
Forrest gave you a hesitant look, but when you moved your hands to rest on his sides, he couldn’t say no. His hands nervously moved to rest on your waist, eyes scanning yours for any look of disapproval. He found none. You looked.. happy. A small smile played on your lips as you moved your hands up to the back of his neck. “Well, well, well, you do know how to dance.” You whispered quietly, hips swaying in time with his own. His fingertips sunk into your hips, holding you close to him as he lazily moved. Your compliment wasn’t needed, but he rather enjoyed it. He knew he could dance, he just didn’t like to. His head fell forward so his chin could rest against your forehead. You smiled at the movement. You’d never felt so safe with someone.
Jack and Howard danced like idiots. Their bodies moved sloppily and goofily opposed to your movements along with Forrest’s. The two of you were elegant and the two of them were clowns. Forrest’s lips fell south to rest beside your ear and when you felt his hot breath waft over your skin, your eyes drooped shut. Why had you waited so long to let yourself get close to him?
Your bodies swayed until the song finished and continued into the next several songs. The music seemed never ending and somehow the next few dances were accompanied by shots of whatever beverage Jack was serving up. Your throat was burning and your stomach was warm. Your movements had grown a little sloppy but you blamed the hazy effect the alcohol had over you. One minute the broken clock read 11 and the next it struck 2:45. Surely the four of you hadn’t been dancing for that long. You weren’t sure how that had happened, but you really weren’t sure how you and Forrest had ended up wondering off down the hall together. You clumsily stumbled into his office, scanning your brain for some sort of explanation as to how the two of you got there and what you were doing.
When Forrest handed you a flannel, it jogged your memory. You’d been cold. He’d been more than happy to offer you one of his comfy shirts. Without thinking, you’d moved to a corner and stripped from your tight clothing. The man hadn’t watched. He respected you too much to stare and he figured the booze was having a careless affect on you and he wasn’t one to take advantage. When your hand grazed his arm, he turned to find you clad in his flannel. It fit you perfectly. Yes, it was oversized and fell well down to the middle of your thighs, but work was slow and you were only hanging around the Bondurant’s, so it didn’t matter in the slightest. Behind the bar, you were hardly seen.
The two of you stood there awhile, gazing at each other as if the eye contact would say what you couldn’t verbally. Apparently it did. One second you were jamming your tongue down his throat in your mind, the next you had him pressed against the wall, mouth curiously moving forward to trace the scar you were so curious about. This was not how you wanted your first kiss with Forrest Bondurant to go, but you couldn’t stop yourself. Forrest let a happy hum leave his throat, one that sounded so.. ecstasy-filled. It was like he’d been waiting for this for years. Maybe he had. Your lips traced the heated skin of his neck. The line beneath your mouth was sunken and scarred. You could feel him swallow shyly beneath your curious mouth, but he made no movement to push you away. That told you again that he didn’t mind your kisses. His large hand rested on your lower back and when you felt it glide around to your hip, your confidence grew. “Forrest..” You whispered breathily against his flesh, taking your time to worship the mark. Forrest craned his neck slowly to the side. Nobody had ever given his scar this much attention, not even Maggie. She hadn’t given it so much as a mention since explaining to him that she was the one who had to take him to the hospital. She was wiped from his memory when your tongue grazed the sensitive skin. His pulse was beating so harshly against your tongue and you could feel his fingers tightening around your waist. It didn’t hurt in the slightest, he just made his grip more firm. The room was growing increasingly hotter and you were beginning to feel lighter.
Forrest’s free hand slid along the length of your back and up to rest on the base of your neck. When you moved your lips to his jaw, he tilted his head down and brushed his nose over your own. A lazy smile tickled your lips as you studied him in the dark. The two of you were tipsy, yes, but that didn’t matter. The both of you still wanted this. His lips were centimeters from your own and never in all your life had you wanted to kiss someone so badly.
“I’m looking for Forrest! Move Jack. Yes. I don’t care. No, get out of my way.” Your lips were millimeters from his, hot pants mingling together as you neared. Forrest froze in your arms when the loud voice from down the hall filled the station. Maggie. You weren’t shoved away, but he turned his head away from yours, making it impossible for you to kiss him. The initial lust that had been growing in your stomach faded away at his action. You took a small step back, ignoring your heavily beating heart. “Forrest!” Maggie shouted. The redhead slammed her fist down roughly against the bar before looking toward Howard and then once more toward Jack. “What’s he doing that’s so damn important. I’m back, ain’t I? You tell him if he wants to see his son to come out now.” Jack and Howard looked toward one another, but they made no movement.
Forrest could hear every word being said and his brothers knew that. His blue eyes lingered on you, but he didn’t stare for too long. He felt oddly guilty. It was unfair to flirt with you for the last few weeks and then leave you high and dry just as he was getting ready to do as you’d been waiting for him to do for the last 30 days. “I’m sorry.” He spoke beneath his breath, apology unheard by you. All you could hear was your heartbeat. You watched the man wipe away the kisses you’d left on his neck before he lifted a cigar from the pack on the desk. He placed it between his lips and left without another word.
The room was silent and suddenly cold now that Forrest was gone. You could hear his heavy footsteps pounding against the wooden floors as he approached Maggie. “Where is he?” Forrest’s deep voice carried through the building. The redhead didn’t budge from her place, she merely reached up and gently grabbed ahold of Forrest’s stubble-covered cheeks. She drew him in for a lengthy kiss, too oblivious to notice the floral scented sweetness that coated his neck. You emerged from the back room, breaths deeper than they’d been when you left, and caught sight of the scene. A little pang of jealousy hit you, but you knew you shouldn’t feel that. Forrest was married to her.. if he should be kissing either one of you, it was Maggie. Your arms folded over your chest slowly.
Jack stepped toward you, large palm sinking into the skin of your lower back. “Wanna go for a walk?” He asked softly.
You shook your head. “No, that’s alright.” Your voice was low and your eyes followed. The room was quiet opposed to the quiet smacking of the couple’s lips. Why did she have to come back now?
Maggie broke the kiss after a few seconds, but to you it seemed like an hour. Forrest grumbled lowly before looking around the room. His son was nowhere in sight. “Where’s my boy?” He asked again, making no attempt to harden his voice for he didn’t want to upset her. He couldn’t have her leave again with his son. She could go. But she could go alone.
“He’s on he porch playing with a new toy I got him.” Her voice was cold. Had he not missed her? Forrest straightened. He was doing his absolute best to ignore the need to run out the door and hold his child. “I think we should talk.” She whispered quietly as her dainty fingers looped through his large ones. Her red hair was neatly combed out of her face, eyes glistening with power. She knew Forrest would never leave her so she could run off as many times as she liked. Her husband would always be waiting.
Forrest lifted his gaze away from Maggie and the second he did, his eyes latched on to you, stood close to Jack with your head hanging low. “You go on to the bedroom. I’ll be there in a minute.” When Maggie moved around Forrest, you did the same. Going home suddenly sounded ideal, you didn’t care about the late hour. Your barefeet scuffed against the wood and then the dirt as you rushed from the station. Forrest snatched his hat off of the table where he’d discarded it earlier and quickly followed after you. “Y/N.” His deep voice carried with the wind. “Hang on a minute.” You didn’t stop. You stumbled over rocks, wincing when particularly sharp or jagged ones would stab the sensitive skin of your foot. Forrest had longer legs and quicker strides. His large hand circled yours and he pulled you back. Luckily a large shed shielded the two of you from anyone who may be peering out of the station windows. Forrest hadn’t even seen his son, knelt on the deck, playing with a toy truck. He was so set on ensuring you were alright.
“Forrest, it’s fine.” You whispered, before prying your hand out of his grip. “Just go be with your wife.”
His hand shot forward once more, curling in the flannel you’d be given to where. His secure grip on the thin fabric tightened further so he could draw you into him. “I’m not letting you go home this late..” There was a pause from him and a defeated sigh from you. “She wasn’t suppose to come back.” He explained.
You didn’t care. “Forrest.” You shook your head. “You don’t need to try and better this situation. She’s your wife. She has every right to come back and see you. I am in the wrong here.” You didn’t try to distance yourself from him again. You knew he’d just pull you back. His plump lips pressed together before he placed his hands on your waist and stared down at you with an apologetic look.
“You’re not in the wrong. We both allowed what happened to happen.” A shiver of delight ran along your spine when he drew you in.
“Nothing happened.” You whispered before turning your head away. The wind blew harshly, whipping around the pair of you angrily. Forrest looked up at the black sky. It had been a clouded gray this morning, and the expected storm was finally about to roll through.
“Elliot, come inside!” Forrest turned his head. Maggie was calling their boy in. The man didn’t move away from you, he just remained quiet until he heard the slam of the porch, a signal that Maggie and Elliot had gone inside.
He looked back down at you with a gentle frown. “More would’ve happened.” He offered, to which you shook your head.
“You don’t know that and now you never will.” You made another lazy attempt to free yourself from his grip, but this time, he let you free, only so he could move around you and lead you elsewhere. A soft frown played on your lips as you followed him toward a field of grass. You’d been back here once or twice with Jack when he taught you how to get to the area where the liquor was kept. “Forrest..” You sighed, struggling to keep up with his steps. “Forrest, hang on, you’re moving to fast.” He halted. His head turned so he could study you, a crinkle in his brow. You smiled softly, assuring him you were alright, you just needed a slower pace. “The weather’s getting bad.. we should really get back, I need to go home.” He shook his head, but offered no verbal reply. When he dipped inside an old looking warehouse, you reluctantly followed. “Where are you going?” You asked breathily. You weren’t afraid or unsure. You felt safe with the man, you were just confused and curious. When he stopped, you did as well. The interior of the warehouse was old and rotten. There was no door and the windows were smashed and shattered. Why had he taken you here?
The man moved toward the corner to draw open an old vanity. He drew out a lighter and a cigar before settling down on an unsturdy looking chair. He ushered you toward him with two fingers and you hesitantly obliged. Your, still bare, feet moved along the floor and when he finally looked to your feet, he squinted. You were going to get sick walking around like that. The man hunched over, plump lips securely holding the cigar in his lips as he lowered his hands to undo the ties on his boots. With simple tugs, the shoes were undone and he slipped them off. A look of surprise settled on your face when he kicked the leather toward you. His feet were covered with black socks, wiggling lightly against the ground before he looked away. You shyly stepped toward him. “Forrest. Why have you brought me all the way out here?” You whispered as you lifted your feet and pushed them into the warmth that his boots offered. They were entirely too big and impossible to walk in, but luckily you didn’t have to go far. When you were stood in front of Forrest’s knees, he tilted his head back to look up at you. Your fingers lifted to pinch the thin line at the front of his hat. Prying it off of his head, you laid it down on the desk beside him to get a better look at the unreadable emotion on his face.
“Maggie can’t do what she did. Leave and then come back when she pleases.” He spoke finally. Your hands slid to your hips, resting there tiredly.
“And?” You spoke up softly, unsure of where he was going with this.
“It’s not fair to you.. her showing back up here. Elliot is my life, Y/N. I never knew how much I wanted a kid until he showed up and I’ll do anything to keep him around.” The sudden realization hit you. He brought you as far away from the station as he could just to tell you something so simple.
“I wasn’t asking for a relationship with you, Forrest. We got carried away. Blame the alcohol if you want, but I’m not a child. I can handle a little rejection, believe it or not.” His large hand shot forward at your words.
“This isn’t that.” He muttered before dragging you forward. “I’m not rejecting you and wherever this leads us is fine with me.” Another look of surprise passed over your face.
“Wherever what leads us?” Your brows pulled together. The world around you seemed to fade away. You were oblivious to the drops of rain that now fell from the black sky. His hand urged you forward again after he removed the cigar from his lips and before you could really stop it, you were situated on his lap. Again, you received no verbal reply, but when he looked to your lips, it all became clear. Your lips parted and your small hands lifted to rest on his strong shoulders. “Forrest.. I can’t kiss you and then go back to the station knowing she’s going to be doing just the same, it makes me uncomfortable.”
His eyes slid between your own. “The only reason I’m keeping her around is so that I can see my son.” You looked away, before sighing as you replied.
“Then you don’t need me.” Your feet sunk into the floorboards as you stood, but he hauled you back down.
“I do need you. I’m going to tell Maggie when I go back that she can go ahead and leave, but Elliot’s not leaving. I don’t want to be with her.” He growled.
It was silent for a little while as you pondered his words. Why didn’t he just say that to the redhead? Why did he go through all this trouble? Why did he take you so far away just to explain something to you he could’ve put into a very short and simple sentence? All questions were answered when his large hand sunk into the middle of your back and he dragged you forward. Every thought vanished when the man’s full lips found your own. Your delicate hand lifted instantly to the back of his head, cradling it delicately as your other hand lifted to the side of his neck. Your nails brushed along the scar on his throat, tracing it as if it would split open from your mere touch. Forrest hummed against your lips before dragging you securely into his body. Your chest brushed over his own, knees sinking into the hard surface of the seat he was sat on.
“Forrest..” You whimpered against his lips, slowly leaning back to break the kiss before you got too carried away, but he had no intention of stopping. Each time you said his name, the word was swallowed by another kiss. You couldn’t help but giggle against his mouth, eliciting the smallest smile from him that you’d ever seen, but it was there. “Forrest, there’s a storm coming and if we don’t head back now, then we’re going to be stuck out here.” His heavy breaths wafted over your throat when he moved his mouth down to your warm skin.
“Is that such a bad thing?” He muttered before moving his kisses even further downward. His lips skimmed the top of the flannel your wore and you knew then that it was you he wanted. Just you.
Jack shoved Howard lightly at the idiotic joke he made as they ventured out and into the rain. “Where the hell do you think they went?” Jack asked curiously, avoiding branches that had already fallen with the heavy winds. The leaves crunched beneath his feet loudly and Howard merely shrugged in response before looking around. It was impossible to see.
“The old warehouse is usually where Forrest goes to do his thinking.” Jack grunted at Howard’s words.
“Yeah, but he wouldn’t bring anyone down there with him and we’ve got to assume Y/N is with him. He wouldn’t let her walk home in this weather.” Howard shrugged again. They dodged wobbly branches and dipped beneath twigs and lengthy leaves. The storm was only going to get worse so they needed to hurry. Maggie was curled up in Forrest’s bedroom, laid on her side with Elliot situated in front of her. She wasn’t worried about Forrest being alone with you. She didn’t really know who you even were. You could’ve been a relative for all she knew. Howard slid down a little hill and Jack followed. The pair froze at the shattered window, briefly peering in to see if Forrest was inside.
He was. He definitely was. And as Jack had previously thought, you were right there with him.
The plaid flannel you’d been wearing was laid out on the dusty floorboards, leaving you completely bare, apart from Forrest’s boots which clung to your feet, and visible to all wandering eyes. Your knees were spread open wide, legs hanging in the air while your back arched and head slung back. Forrest had his hands laced through your own, body molded against your own perfectly as you moved as one. His trousers weren’t even fully off his body, they dangled around his knees, but luckily for his brothers, his shirt was long enough to prevent Forrest from flashing them. They both tore their eyes away from the scene before hurriedly scrambling away, both flushing and silent. Well. They had to assume the two of you didn’t care about the storm that would take place. You were occupied anyway.. and probably would be for a while.
