FT fandom: Lucy is so shippable with others! but not Natsu! i can't imagine him with anyone else but Lucy! he only belongs with her!

me, shipping Natsu with other guys while Nalu still hasn't crossed my mind:

hope this isn't asking for too much, but do you have any headcanons that you could make about a relationship between Natsu, Gajeel and Laxus? always though those three would work together....

Natsu x Gajeel x Laxus, Part 1 of ?

So, a preliminary statement:

We would all like to hope for the ideal throuple i.e. everyone gets together because they're all similarly attracted and into each other, and there's no drama. And we'd also like to imagine that we're above stories of love triangles and envy. But that's not the way this one happens, nor would it be as interesting. We're gonna go at this one mostly from Gajeel's POV.

Gajeel and his attraction to Laxus has been rough enough on its own, okay? My personal headcanon is that Gajeel thought he was straight as recently as when he joined Fairy Tail. Finding out you like men, ideally, shouldn't be so threatening...but Gajeel is a rough-looking hypermasculine punk whose ego is very prominent. And Laxus is an even more rough-looking hypermasculine punk with uhhh rage issues and their first meeting was basically Laxus beating the living shit out of him.

Yeah, that's how we're going with it--Gajeel had to go through the same 'oh god the guy who beat me up is hot' thing that Levy went through, except with added internalized homophobia. Couldn't he like someone less threatening? Have awkward dreams about, I dunno, Gray, or Freed, or Nats--nope, not that one, that'd be awful too.

And luckily for him, Laxus is a loner and also an asshole and also not good at making friends, so at least they're in the same boat. He doesn't have to worry about anyone else having the guts to actually approach his crush. Fuck you mean 'Gajeel doesn't either'? Mind your business.

You get it, it's a source of a lot of stress for him. He feels very awkward and weird about his crush on Laxus and it clashes a lot with who he presents himself as and who he wants to be, and so there's a lot of stress associated with it for him.

It's looking up for him right around the time Laxus rejoins the guild and has to actually interact with people and he's much calmer, which means if he can stop choking over it, Gajeel might can actually make a move.

Which means that by the time he figures out that Natsu is trying to put the moves on his crush, he...basically detonates. Like, he does not handle it well, at all. You've just started to think he might be getting over his vicious rivalry with Salamander and might be calming down when he gets wind of the fact he and Salamander like the same guy. Nope, fuck that, fuck all of that, every last bit of it, Salamander can go suck some other dick.

Of course it's fucking Natsu, right? Dude blew his old guild to smithereens, knocked him unconscious, basically re-homed him to his own guild, consistently outshines and out-competes him for attention, and now he can't even let Gajeel thirst for another man in peace.

So it's a lot of toxic behavior and outward hostility and hair-trigger temper while Gajeel basically tries to simultaneously keep Natsu from pursuing and also deny that he has any sort of feelings for Laxus whatsoever, because that'd be weak as hell, no thank you. Everybody notices and it kinda freaks out onlookers in the guild, who thought Gajeel was over his hyper-aggressive early days.

Of course, poor Laxus, having not one but two machismo-driven idiots who don't know a thing about romance both crushing on him, because you can guarantee Natsu, while he might be more forward with pursuing a crush, is just as clueless as Gajeel. So Laxus, unawares while this is all starting to brew, is basically watching two guys he's actually rather fond of damn near beating each other to death whenever they're in the same room.

It gets bad enough that Laxus has to basically separate them and pin Gajeel to the ground when he starts a fight and Natsu is getting pretty badly hurt. Like he has to pull Gajeel off of Natsu and tells him to his face he's gonna lay down the law himself if he does it again, and demands to know what the fuck is up. Gajeel stays silent.

Of course, Laxus doesn't let that slide. Corners him and drags him off to some isolated location later, so he can wheedle the answers out of Gajeel. It's not like they don't have an understanding between each other, they can trust each other, right? So why's Gajeel being all silent and clammed up. Finally, Gajeel almost spits it:

"Salamander wants you."

Drama, mess, and dysfunction will continue in a part 2~!

Laxsu Headcanons

For @gayshipshit

Natsu has always had a crush on Laxus

Growing up, Natsu thought that I was just because he admired Laxus’ strength

But when he was 14 he realized it was because he was attracted to him

Natsu kept this to himself though

Not because he was ashamed of being attracted to Laxus

But because he didn’t see anything actually happening between the two of them anyway

Over time his crush on Laxus faded to where he forgot about it

It wasn’t until the Battle of Fairy Tail that Natsu realized his crush never truly went away

He was overjoyed when Laxus was welcomed back into the guild by Gildarts, though he never said anything

After the war, Natsu asked Laxus if he would help him learn to better control his Lighting-Flame magic

Natsu was decent on his own, but he was always open to sharpen his skills

Laxus agreed

During one of their sparing sessions, Laxus realized how much he admired how Natsu had matured

While he still found the young dragon slayer annoying (most of the time) he was impressed by Natsu’s spirit and strength

Happy Accidents - 

“Laxus, fight me!”

Natsu held his usual exuberance, his face beaming as flames sparked from his skin. It was his smile that caught the attention of the other man. In his absence, Natsu had matured, and yet his smile remained the same; full of mischief, and yet still soft around the edges. Laxus had a difficult time saying no to him. 

“Are you sure you can handle it?” He smirked, already feeling the pressure of electricity bristle under his skin. Laxus heard Natsu’s answer in his head before the shorter man spoke.

“Are you kiddin’, Laxus? I’m all fired up!”

Laxus laughed to himself at that, and then Natsu was already charging, not bothering to wait for Laxus to stand. Not that he needed to, of course; Laxus could beat Natsu sitting down with ease. This would no doubt be a short fight. 

A few members of the guild jeered, their attention drawn by the noise Natsu always seemed to produce. Their eyes met, and Laxus felt his heart constrict at the passion that he found in Natsu’s. The heat of it was scorching, and Laxus felt it darken his cheeks, and seep into his bones.

He prepared for contact, for the feelings that could only be transmitted through sweat soaked fists, and he was surprised with how excited he felt at the prospect. Any excuse to touch Natsu was a good enough one for Laxus, but he would never admit that, could never, not with his status in the guild. Not with Natsu. 

But the contact he so desired did not come.

Natsu ran at him, but lost his footing, tripping over Happy’s haphazard tail and skidding until they collided, hard, into the wooden bar. Their foreheads smacked together, noses bent awkwardly. Lips touching. 

It was brief, of course, just their mouths meeting on accident, and it was no where near enough for Laxus, but he would take what he could get and, stars, he would take it gladly. And this was more than he had ever dared hoped for. 

The guild fell silent. Natsu spluttered and fell away, and Happy ran to him, apologising as he went. There was a pink hue to Natsu’s cheeks, a wetness to his lips that was not there before, and his eyes were wide when they stared into Laxus’ equally shocked face. 

Laxus turned away, flustered, and cleared his throat.

“Did you and Natsu just... kiss?” Freed asks hesitantly, and Laxus rolls his eyes at him.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Freed.” 

But Mirajane was looking at him knowingly, a smile toying with the corner of her lips, and he fought the urge to flip her off. She would ambush him later, and he would have no choice but to tell her everything. About how he had been watching Natsu. About how he had kissed him.

About how much he loved him.

And he did. It scared him, but Laxus had never been one to run away from his fears; he faced them head on, and he would face this, too. 

“We need to have a rematch, Laxus.” Natsu muttered, low enough that only his dragon slayer ears could hear. There was an inflection in the tone hat made Laxus shiver, and he grunts his response. 

In many ways, Laxus was a simple man, and this was an opportunity to spend time with Natsu, to touch him. He was strong, but nowhere near strong enough to say no to that.
