Trump and the Christian Rightwing
Numerous women have come forth that Roy Moore tried to date them as teenagers while he was in his 30s, and in one case, Leigh Corfman, that she thought a 32 year old Roy Moore might try to rape her. Should we be so surprised that so many Christian evangelicals support Moore in spite of these allegations? Indeed, in one poll 37% of Alabama evangelicals said they were MORE likely to support him based on these very same allegations.
The election of Donald Trump proved the utter hypocrisy of the Christian right-wing when they supported him by an over 80% margin, even though numerous women came out with statements of sexual harassment or even assault, against Donald Trump. What is important to the Christian right-wing is that gays be prosecuted and put in prison and that Muslims be denied the ability to build their own houses of worship on their own land.
The supposed party and movement of "Family Values" is built on a House of Cards. When Roy Moore compared Marriage Equality to the Holocaust or slavery, well, that wasn't that important. In fact, to them that was even more reason to support Roy Moore. Roy Moore and his supporters are big proponents of putting 10 Commandments displays on public property, so I ask, did they miss the line that says, "do not covet"?
Well, Moore and Trump see to have gone a bit beyond coveting, of course. The idea that many on the Christian right-wing that Donald Trump was selected by their deity to be the president and Roy Moore to be a senator, is absurd. If there ever was a man who wasn't "Godly" (that being in a good way) it is Donald Trump. Roy Moore's character does not seem any better and like Trump, he used the votes of evangelicals to gain power.
The only difference between the two is that Moore seems to be a true believer. Both support theocracy and a promotion of religion by the government. While Trump used Christian right-wingers desire of a more theocratic state to gain power, a government full of Roy Moores will cement that theocracy. In the nation of Turkey we see a once proud secular state tossed aside for Tayyip Erdogan's Islamic Republic.
A nation where journalists are imprisoned and media shut down. Does that sound familiar to when Donald Trump said it was "disgusting that the press can write what it wants." Remember, Trump is more like a President Erdogan then he is is a President Washington. Our Founders gave us a nation based on the Enlightenment and reason, if we turn that over to a Donald Trump and a Roy Moore, then we might as well the take George Washington and Thomas Jefferson off our money, because we no longer deserve them.
