Sleep Paralysis
So, what happens in the body during an episode of sleep paralysis? Essentially, during the dream phase of sleep — known as the rapid eye movement (REM) phase — our skeletal muscles are paralyzed.
The reasons behind this are not fully understood, though researchers have been making progress in uncovering the mechanisms attached to this process.
One popular theory posits that this temporary state of paralysis is meant to prevent us from hurting ourselves, perhaps in automatic response to some violent dream.
During sleep paralysis, paradoxically, our brains — or parts of our brains — become awake and conscious, but the rest of the body is still immobilized.
At the same time, during sleep paralysis, many people experience dream visions and sensations as though they were real — hence the hallucinations — and the fact that they are, in fact, partly awake and conscious blurs the line between reality and dreams.
Excellent book.
MILD (mnemonic induced lucid dream) - By Stephen Laberge
Lucid dream from this morning Nov 9th at around 10am. Don't worry, this one is short.
I'm driving a red car for a second, left hand out of the window. Then suddenly everything goes black. I'm being pulled somewhere, back to my room. I become aware that I'm dreaming. I see the thing that was pulling me! The thing that has been pulling me my entire dream life (I presume). It looks like a tiny flying saucer. It's circular, silver and has what looks like a lightbulb in the center of it's body. It drops me off and disappears through my ceiling. I get up out of bed where it dropped me and I immediately feel myself starting to wake up. I try to stabilize the dream but I can't. I'm pulled out of my room and into my hallway. I see, what looks like Casper the friendly ghost, lol, go through my wall. I see him through my door way from the hallway. I'm waking up now. I don't move, I'm staying completely still now so that I can try to go back into the dream. As I'm laying in my bed with my eyes closed, I have no vision in my right eye but in my left eye I can see different scenes playing out; blue skies; a dessert; some lady. I can see my nose in front of my face but only through my left eye. I wake up.
Happy dreaming!
This is a great book to read if you don't want to spend 15$ on a book filled with theories (which isn't so bad) but gets straight to the point. It's an e-book/Kindle only, I believe. It's short and sweet and only costs a dollar. Happy dreaming!
Hi! I've been gone for a while. Finally, I've been able to get back into the swing of remembering my dreams and centering myself somewhat. My passion and interest have returned for/to lucid dreaming. I was debating whether or not to share my dreams but I think I'll just share a couple and see how I feel. Here's one I had just yesterday on Nov 7th. After reading something in Robert Waggoner's book (Lucid dreaming: Gateway to the inner self), I figured I'd try something he suggested: finding a friend in a dream and sending them a message. If done correctly the actual person should receive the message in waking life. I mentioned this to a friend of mine, she was intrigued and wanted to try it with me. I thought I had intense lucid dreams in the past but this one really took me for a loop. I hope you like it!
"I finally meet my friend R."
I'm on 34th Street. I don't know how I got here but I'm wondering something. Wondering. -- I recognize that I'm dreaming! I was just in my bed wondering if I'd be able to fall back to sleep while repeating, "I'm already dreaming." Next thing I know I'm wondering about where I am and where I'm going while telling myself that I'm dreaming in the middle of the sidewalk on 34th Street lol. I really couldn't believe I was dreaming, at first. As soon as I realize I'm dreaming, all of a sudden I can't control my movements. My field of vision goes blurry slightly. But I gain control, I focus on my hands and then start to look around. The dream stabilizes and It's amazing. The fucking detail, the clarity. The sky, the buildings and all of these people!
I start walking through this train station and I tell myself that -- the next corner I walk around I will see R. And sure enough she walks around the next corner. But she's walking with someone and seems busy and in a hurry. I feel like the dream is starting to end. I try to stabilize the dream again, but when I do, I'm pulled feet first through the train station! I'm telling myself to relax and calm down while gripping the ceiling trying to slow myself down! I mean, I'm zipping through this place and past all of these people lol. While I'm sliding across the ceiling I catch a glimpse of a reflection of myself in a metal panel. I look anxious lmao. Finally I do calm down and regain my composure. I'm able to walk now. I look around and the bricks inside of this station are light teal. There are vendors here. I don't actually look at them but I see them in my peripheral.
R comes walking back around the corner now. Her hair is in her usual wavy afro. She has on her blue trench coat and black purse. I grab her by the shoulders and say that I need to tell her something. She seems a little more attentive this time but still looks like she doesn't want to be bothered. I ask her walking selfneeds to tell me and she says, "To pull harder." I ask if she means -try harder- she sort of nods but just stares. I tell her that my message is that, "Elephants have great memory. You remind me of an elephant." (R loves elephants in waking life). I pat her on the back and ask if she can relay that message to her walking self. I feel accomplished and the dream starts to end.
I feel the usual feeling of *being pulled back to my body*. But this time I decide to do something I rarely do: I try to see what's happening. As I'm being pulled back to my body (that's just what it feels like) I *open my eyes* Whatever that means; it's not like I'm seeing with eyes. I can sort of see light flashing past me, dull grey streaks. Then I wonder if.. yes! I can see my hands! But they're not my hands.. they're.. translucent. Sort of like energy hands. I move them around as I'm being pulled backwards.. amazing. I'm pulled into my room and my outstretched hands scrape the tapestry hanging on my wall.
I can't move now. My feet are at the head of the bed. I fell asleep the opposite way though. I feel as if someone is holding me down. Sleep paralysis? But no, it feels like this other semi lucid dream where some black shadow venom looking thing was holding me down. I fight against it this time and am able to move. While I'm just laying in bed, wondering if I'm dreaming or not, I hear a voice REALLY close to my right my ear, "BOO!" It scares the shit out of me and I literally jump/fall into another dream.
Now I'm in a cluttered room. It's small with books and things scattered on the floor. I laugh to myself because that was kind of funny. There's a small cat or dog here with me. It looks like a mix of both. I call it to come to me and it does. It licks my hand. That calms me down and I wake up again. I do a reality check. Nope.. my fingers can't go through my hand, guess I'm awake? My head feels like I just did shrooms. I pick up my phone to write this all down and my phone and my hands seem -- unrealistic? Compared to that dream.
(Spoke to R and we both concluded that that wasn't her lol. It was most likely a projection of my own subconscious. But I'm going to try again. She was still very impressed and she does actually have the jacket and purse. I think I know this from memory although I totally forgot about that jacket and her purse.)
Oh! Almost forgot. Here's a cute tease from my subconscious trickster self. After this dream, I went for a walk to my usual smoothie place and I was mulling over this dream in my head. As I'm walking, a sign catches my eye. I look to the left and..
Great read! This link contains declassified documents about the CIA's work with Robert Monroe! He was one of my favorite authors who wrote about astral projection. Not only did he write 3 books but he also created a series of audio tapes designed to help the aspiring traveler of the night. The audio is called: The Gateway Experience.
Happy dreaming!
