LEAD Webinar–Service Provider Transformation: From Policy to Opportunity

DIDD’s State Director of Employment & Day Services Jeremy Norden-Paul and Dwayne Webb with St. John’s Community Services will be among the presenters for a webinar next week on Provider Transformation.  This webinar will provide perspectives from the field on how the Employment First State Leadership Mentor Program (EFSLMP) is advancing Provider Transformation at the systems, services, and individual outcome levels.  Jeremy, Dwayne, and the other panelists will relate their experiences in working through the policy and practical changes inherent in the Provider Transformation process.

LEAD Webinar: Service Provider Transformation

This webinar introduces the topic of Provider Transformation and includes panelists who will provide perspectives from the field on how the Employment First State Leadership Mentor Program (EFSLMP) is advancing Provider Transformation at the systems, services, and individual outcome levels.  The panel will include representatives of state systems, individual service providers, an individual who started in a competitive integrated employment position as a consequence of the process, and his employer.  The panelists will relate their own experiences in working through the policy and practical changes inherent in the Provider Transformation process, and the individual and his employer will discuss the competitive employment relationship that resulted from it.

New LEAD Center Report: “Guidance to Community Rehabilitation Program Executive Directors for the Coming Employment 1st Decade”

As Employment First gains ground across the nation, shifts in organizational thinking and leadership are needed in order to not only comply with law, but to provide the best services to individuals with disabilities.  In this report, Cary Griffin, CEO of Grffin-Hammis Associates, offers advice to leaders of community rehabilitation programs on ways to transform their organizations and embrace the move to community employment. New LEAD Center Publication: “UPS Delivers the ‘Secret Sauce’ for Disability Inclusion”

A new report from the LEAD Center and the Workplace Initiative finds UPS’s work training program to be a game-changer for disability employment.  The report takes a close look at the training program that has been implemented at UPS’s main air sorting hub in Louisville, Kentucky. The program supports people with disabilities in gaining work skills and experience that prepare them to fill positions in the company.

Options Unlimited, Inc., UPS, and the Coalition for Workforce Diversity worked collaboratively to develop the Transitional Learning Center training program at UPS.  The program's success reinforced the company's view that training and hiring people with disabilities is both a social responsibility and a means of meeting strategic business needs.  UPS’s program may provide a model for other companies interested in diversifying their workforce and creating inclusive career pathways for youth and adults with disabilities.  Click here to read the publication.

LEAD Center Webinar

Disability management and prevention is an important component in retaining talented employees and reducing turnover costs. In 2013, the LEAD Center studied a large successful U.S. corporation to learn about and document effective retention and return-to-work policies and practices. This is a major focus for the U.S. Business Leadership Network as well as the Families and Work Institute, which just published their 2014 National Study of Employers. Join the LEAD Center for a review of lessons learned including:

• Employer retention and return-to-work best practices. • How workforce professionals can partner with employers to promote     employee retention and return to work. • How to identify employers with policies that support customized employment.

This webinar will move beyond the basics of Customized Employment to explore using the information gathered during Discovery to connect job seekers to a vast array of employment opportunities using a casual approach to job development. Participants will gain valuable information and strategies to support job placement efforts for job seekers with disabilities and harder to serve job seekers without disabilities.
