“ what you said to my da — about walking in cow pastures. where’d you pick that up?”
HOT COFFEE ON AN AUGUST AFTERNOON, and the large starbucks was pushed toward kaz in a single movement. she was late to the first class ( OF COURSE! ) but she knew he would save a spot for her. crossing her legs in her chair, she took a sip of her own iced drink through a reusable straw. a scan of the room, and she narrowed her eyes. ❝ who is the new kid? ❞ her voice a near whisper as she glanced up at him to catch his eye.

It’s not her fault she can hear the heartbeats of everyone else at the table. Without her Ravkan stipend anymore, the tables are the best way for her to make some money. She’s careful not to win too much, factor in the house advantage, make sure she loses some hands as well to avoid suspicion. Apparently, her tricks aren’t enough tonight. “I’m just a university student,” she pleads, eyes wide.
@leadercrow || contd. from (x)
marie knew that ketterdam was a rather unsavory place. she knew it was crawling with thieves and gamblers and criminals and slavers and drüskelle–– but that information was no match for her stubborn heart. perhaps it made her naive, but it also made her kind and there was certainly no ridding her of that.
so while she did know that ketterdam was home to more gangs than she could count, she knew little of their members and even less of what they looked like. to her, this young man (who couldn’t be any older than her, if even that) could be anyone. and so, she’d asked the question. what she handed expected, perhaps foolishly, was to be met with such exhaustion at her concern.
her brow furrowed with irritation, and suddenly ilya was called to her mind, stubborn and ornery and only a child, despite his desperation to prove otherwise. “well if you’re so determined to suffer, then i suppose i’ll leave you to it,” she replied, still somewhat confused by the boy’s response, “but there’s no cause to be rude.”

give me that braindump about suli traditions / superstitions, thank you :)
suli's created a culture based on traveling and moving. nothing is permanent and that comes through from emotions, to work, to aging, pleasure. the only thing in life that is true is love, and there is a high priority on family (found family included) and relationships.
soulmates, or the person that become your red thread, have a high priority in their culture. dating and courting are encouraged, and they are a deep traditional pull to romance. both women and men have autonomy in the courting process, as gift-giving and acts of service to be prioritized over all else. love is highly encouraged and celebrated. there are no heads of the household and there is a serious lack of gender performance in family and dating structures. this means gender fluidity is common for individuals as well. the language, clothing, parental roles, or even pronouns are all gender-neutral.
nearly every daily task has a superstition on it. small things like how many stirs you should do when prepping stew for good luck or what time of the day you should sweep become second nature to sulis. the world will deal out good luck or bad luck depending on your devotion.
suli proverbs are more used like spells or prayers than mottos. they are spoken to balance luck or reach the saints.
dreams are not subconscious, but a place that you physically go to. I could write about this forever, but it's a lot. this is why inej's nightmares
saints are to worship in a traditional ravkan sense. they are used more like deities, where you can devote yourself to various ones based on what personal goals you have. there is no need for churches, but icons are heavily used as well as alters are prayer work in nature.
fortune-telling is a specialized skill that only a few people can master in their lifetime. most commonly, they use a classic deck of cards for readings. like traditional card readings, each card has a different meaning, and depending on the spread, will create different paths for the reader. this is why inej will never voluntarily touch a deck of cards and has a mixed relationship with gambling.
suli's don't have a sense of possessions. they will share anything they have and expect others to do the same. a good way to think about is that they will take an apple from a tree if they need to eat, without much care about who owns the tree. the tree is the giver, not the ownership.

modern au where jordie is alive and jesper Does Not let kaz have a moment of peace bc ‘jordie’s the hot sibling’
no i’m jk jk. i’d love to do something with jesper & kaz talking about that argument / fight they had. maybe discussing inej’s departure. talking about pekka rollins, even, bc god knows jesper is curious about it all. basically: anything post - ck, with them in the van eck mansion. bros being bros, n’ all that.
also... literally anything that involves these two going undercover. perhaps to steal smth, maybe to spy on someone, who knows!!! their ‘cover’ is that they’re step brothers or some nonsense like that. hilarity and disaster ensues.
