Today I sign up for contemporary dance lessons. And this is what I will be learning in the following weeks.
"Release-based technique to increase creativity, fitness and confidence. The classes focus on alignment, co-ordination use of weight and musicality to encourage freedom of movement, and most importantly a sense of fun and enjoyment! Classes are accompanied by live music."
This morning I spoke with one of the teaching staff of the Trinity Lanban Conservatorie of Music and Dance. I explained to her about my project and what is my aim in taking dance classes. I asked for advice about the style of dance that would be more appropriate for investigate movements. I had doubts in between contemporary dance and ballet. She explained me how ballet is a very structure dance and that I will learn about movements that I am already familiar with. However, contemporary dance opens a larger spectrum to explore because is focus on your inner response to the music. It is about improvisation and exploring less structural movements.
This is a step forward to this project. I think is important to engage in a personal level to after understand how it works in a bigger context.
