Hannibal and little Misha at Lecter estate. The are more based on the Hannibal tv series as I used a few photos of young and older Mads for reference. This also puts the time period more in the late 60′s early 70′s than WWII. However, since they were in, essentially rural Lithuania, the clothes I imagined as a combination of more traditional and current as fashion probably took a while to update in that area.
Lithuania was controlled by the Russians at the time, so I would think the Lecters (before the tragedy of course) would keep to themselves and be somewhat isolated to keep their holdings their own. Of course they would have a staff to keep up with such a huge place and grounds (including an old French chef whom Hannibal learns from at an early age.)
That being said, I don’t love the portrayal of young Hannibal from the movie ‘Hannibal Rising’. I think ‘normal until this crazy thing happened’ just doesn’t work with a personality like his. I think his particular brand of...personality would need to be a result of both nature AND nurture. He would have been a weird kid. Quiet. Observant. Genius level intellect. Disconcerting stare. Like, one of those kids who wouldn’t even speak till age 5 because he spent his formative years figuring out how people worked in silence.
(so lots of these are educated headcanons using the show, various movies, etc.)
