🌍 — knowledge of the world

Shani: So bad. Zero. Nada. Shani has been out in the world for only a year now and while she’s been to all the regions, she still has so much to learn. She was sheltered her whole life and is experiencing just about everything for the first time. Although she absolutely loves it and is having the time of her life, she’s also been getting in a lot of trouble, especially since she’s now on her own vs having a crew that used to keep her in check.

Janine: She’s pretty good in this department. Her father made sure to educate her and in general she has a good, innate common sense and street smarts. On top of that, she enjoys learning more and will often give her phone number to trainers from other regions so that she can talk to them and learn more.

Lee: He’s similar to Shani in that he was stuck in one area for a very long time but he never allowed himself to be sheltered. He drank with the sailors that would pass through Pacifidlog, listened to the news of the world, and even read a couple books here and there. He also is very quick to come to understanding about the world around him from a lifetime of discrimination for his background and misbehavior. He has no hope or preconceived notions of society and tends to be wary of everyone. It’s not the best outlook but it can keep him safe.

Shani: She absolutely believes in luck and she thinks she’s one of the luckiest people around. After all, she’s survived running away pretty well, was saved by her current BFF in the world (her Lapras) and has some great Pokemon and adventures to show off! So far, she hasn’t had too much issue finding odd jobs and keeping money, but she doesn’t spend on much outside of food and shelter. She attributes this to being a naturally lucky person and the fact that she follows rather superstitious rituals to keep the Evil Eye off of her.

Janine: Already answered!

Lee: He doesn’t really believe in luck but if he did, his would be shit. He’s been dealt a shitty hand in life and the one time he finally finds something good and some stupid kid ruins everything. He’s prone to failure and suffers a lot. But luck doesn’t exist or anything, surely.

🎵 — singing

Shani: She is alright at singing. She has a huskier edge to it and it’s not “classically” beautiful but it’s distinctly her. She pretty much only sings when she’s playing her kalimba, which is an instrument that can make many people sound good.

Janine: Singing is not one of Janine’s talent. She’s done quite a bit of voice training for herself over the years but she’s never done it for singing so she can actually get very self conscious. She will not willingly sing.

Lee: Despite what most people would assume, Lee actually is very naturally talented at singing. He’s had no professional training, but most people are rather surprised that that voice comes out of that mouth. While it is something he could use to his advantage, he’s actually a little embarrassed about it and doesn’t sing very often outside of the shower or alone.

👊 — fighting

Shani: Shani thinks she’s a great fighter and while she is, her strength lies in wrestling and fist fights. She has no technical skill and has never trained professionally, so her style is messy but strong. So while she could crush many people in the ground, she could probably be easily overtaken by a trained, professional fighter.

Janine: On the opposite end, Janine is not all that physically strong but she’s been trained to fight her whole life. More accurately, she’s been trained for self defense but she’s been known to worm her way into a fight or two. She’s fast, agile, and has precise aim in her blows, making her a formidable opponent. She prefers long range combat, as her lack of strength becomes prominent once you get closer.

Lee: Lee doesn’t have strength or skill but the kid has tenacity. He can hold his own in a drunken bar fight out in a dingy alley buuut he’s also lost quite a bit of those in his life. But considering he knows he’ll lose with Pokemon, he tends to go to fist fights as his go to battling.

😇 — following rules

Shani: She has never been good at following rules. Ever. In her life. And she will probably not be getting better at it any time soon. Obviously there are rules she doesn’t break due to her moral compass like...murder. But if it’s something like “stay off the grass” she will roll around in that grass for fun. And probably have stained green clothes because of it.

Janine: If you asked her, she would remark with offence that of course she follows rules. And she truly believes that she does. But she doesn’t always. Especially when she was younger, she constantly broke the rules when she deemed they were unfair to her. Even today, she will sidestep rules if there’s something greater she needs.

Lee: Screw your fucking rules he’s not going to listen to you. Except for you, Maxie. And maybe sometimes you, Tabitha and Courtney. But mostly Maxie. He learned the hard way what happens when you don’t follow his rules. Everyone else, fuck you.

🍼 — taking care of children

Shani: SHANI IS SO GOOD AT TAKING CARE OF CHILDREN!!! She has had to take care of so many cousins and cousin’s kids and overall, she’s just a huge kid herself. She has such a fondness for kids of all ages and takes on the big sister role for everyone younger than her.

Janine: She likes to think she’s good with children but ehhhh there’s a cut off age. If they can have a conversation with her and have the ability to be trained (most likely as her look a like) then she’s all good! Most of her prodigies are 13-18 years old. But any younger than that and she’s just. Awkward. That’s not to say she doesn’t like children, she’s a strong believer in teaching and respecting the next generation, she’s just not great with young kids. She can’t connect with the youth.

Lee: Do NOT give this boy a kid. Ever. He can’t take care of himself or his Pokemon let alone a smol human child.
