Rory was born in 1962 to a middle-class family living in Guildford, his parents sadly separating a few years later which was followed by the passing of his mother only a few years after that. When he turned eight his father remarried to a sensible, if somewhat of a professionally minded woman.
His father had always wanted a larger family and despite knowing that his new bride didn't want to have kids he wasted no time in pushing for it. During the years of arguing Rory became a reclusive little boy, preferring to play outside with the other children than face going home.
The fighting ended however when his parents told him that they were expecting another child. Despite his father's delight, he knew his stepmother didn't want this. In early December Lee Un.win was born and Rory took it upon himself to be as helpful as possible despite only being 11.
Shortly after Lee was born the family experiences another large shift. With a change in position at work their father uprooted their little family and moved them to London.
It wasn't terrible. Rory didn't have much to leave behind and in London, he met a boy named Alexander who would soon become his best friend.
Due to a small mix up, a combination of being shy and having a stutter Alexander assumed Rory's name was Gary due to missing the first syllable. It wasn't for several months before Rory made any efforts to correct him, but by then everyone knew him as Gary and he found the name much better fitting.
Lee himself wouldn't find out what his brothers birth name was until he was about ten years old.
Sadly, after Lee's seventh birthday their father suffered a fatal heart attack, leaving two sons and a widow seemingly overnight. For a little while, their mother did her best, but it didn't take long for her to grow terribly unhappy. Fresh-faced and eighteen Rory, now living happily as Gary, made his stepmother an offer. He would take Lee and raise him if she paid him child support. Despite her guilt, she did relent and let the boys move out.
From 1980 till 1989 Gary raised Lee by himself, working as a bartender to help them get by. They weren't wealthy by any means but they did just fine. In late 1989 Gary was struck and killed by a drunk driver on his way home.
Feeling too old to enter the foster system and feeling distinctly unwelcome in his mother's life due to seeing her only a handful of times since he and Gary moved out Lee opted to live with friends, living in the park, functionally homeless until he moved in with Michelle in late 1990.
