Today, August 13th is left-handers day. It might be hard to believe, but left-handed people make up only an estimated 11% of the population.
For left-handers, the right brains are usually dominant, and that’s where creativity and intuition are centered. To them, it’s often easier to be creative than logical. Their brains more easily use both sides of the brain at once, so they have the advantage of also being more flexible in our thinking.
Our www.tutorz.com/find/psychology tutors can explain the psychology of left-handers even more precisely.
Ten things I've grown accustom to, being left-handed
1- sitting or requesting to sit farthest to the left (to not bump elbows with the righty sitting to my left)
2- hearing at one point after meeting someone new "oh your left-handed?" As if its shocking
3- not seeing the cool stuff on my mug when I drink coffee
4- simple stationary supplies not working the right way because of the way I hold them
5- not being able to wear a watch comfortably on my right wrist (that in itself is a ten minute rant)
6- having my hand imprinted with whatever I was writing. Be it, covered in silver from pencils or stamps of words from the not yet dried ink from a pen
7- having to flip things in my head because I was shown by a righty how to do something
8- identifying quickly how many left-handed tools I have to work with (sports equipment, scissors, desks, ect)
9- shaking hands with my right (I try to extend my left hand for a handshake before they can use their right hand though)
10- having a mini victory when the majority of people in a group are left-handed (it makes me so happy)
August 13th is International Left-handers Day.
It was first observed on the 13th of August, in the year 1976. It is meant to promote awareness of the inconveniences faced by left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world. It celebrates their uniqueness and differences, who are from seven to ten percent of the world's population. Hundreds of millions of left-handed people in today's society have to adapt to use right handed tools and objects.
Was watching TVOTL and just was able to confirm that Tobias is indeed also left-handed... This band really does defy the odds
Yeah all the more reasons why they're awesome! The Universe is speaking!!
Power to the Left-Handers!! Let's take over the world!!
But for real though, in some professions (especially those using machines) it can be dangerous for left-handers because they were made with the majority(righties) in mind and some lefties can hurt themselves pretty bad if they don't "adapte" to the machine and use it in a way less comfortable and optimal way than what was intended.
Anyway... Happy that in music it doesn't matter/it's not very dangerous.
sending you this ask because this is something I found out thanks to you haha.
But apparently there is a difference between being ambidextrous and cross-dominant/mixed handed
I always thought I was ambidextrous because I do about half of the things I do left-handed, but writing and such is right handed. But apparently if that's called cross-dominant. And it goes even further, because cross dominant people have for example a different dominant foot or eye than their dominant hand (I write right handed, jump right footed, do all the rest left footed, have way more strength in my left arm than the right one and my dominant eye and ear are left)
very sorry about the super infodump, but I'm absolutely intrigued by this
That's actually pretty interesting thanks! I think I kind of read about that in the past.
I love learning new facts so info dump always welcome! 😁👍🏻
To answer the question I know you're all asking - yes, there will be Left-Hander representation in my book series.
WHY LEFT-HANDERS ARE RARE?
There are various different theories on why lefties are rare but still we don’t have proper explanation. The only most applicable reason we get is genetics. There are about 15% of total population who are lefty. Our hand preference is most likely to be genetic proposal to explain hand preference states that there are two alleles, or two manifestations of a gene at the same genetic location, that…
