“Do it....then work out what it is.”
These words were picked up during a session with Visual Arts Ireland from Northern Ireland, artists Ian Cumberland.
The idea to establish a contemporary studio, was centred around my own professional wish for a studio space. I wanted an independent space to work. No restrictions on access, affordable and that could pay for it-self.
This could have been a private venture but I opened the conversation and invited other from the beginning. There were a few cul-de-sac, you take a step back and look for a different route
By doing this, it provided more ideas to feed it , more viewpoints, more conversations and more hands & legs to get “it” going.
Each step.. having a coffee with someone, a meeting, taking a lease, renting a studio slowly created confidence. It takes time to “do it”, and before that more time to gather the confidence to”do it”. The confidence gathered feeds the next step on.
Only by “doing” do I now know what it is I have crafted. Working beyond the business plan, with action over procrastination, have provided a clearer, deeper description with clean intentions.
