I wouldn't really recommend bnha to my mutuals that love talking about "Leg theory" most of it is probably not to their tastes but I do think all of them would have a great time just going HAND HAND HAND HAND every single chapter and it's a shame it's just me, y'know?

It sucks that if i post this pic and go OMG HAND THEORY people will think i'm talking about an actual plot theory and not understand that Hand theory is like Leg theory but instead of Leg there is Hand. And sometimes, even more significantly, there is NO hand!!

Sorry what’s leg

Leg is. Well leg is when there's leg! It's a very nebulous concept that I am very bad at explaining but it's a thing in Boat Tragedy (or Boat Horror, same difference really in lots of ways) in which a character is notably injured in the leg, often entirely losing a leg in some kind of battle. The leg is lost in a key incident which defines the character and the wider narrative, symbolically cutting off the ability to metaphorically "walk out of here" if that makes sense? Like, to approximately quote Luke Arnold talking about playing Silver, "he always has one leg out of the door, so then they cut that leg off". Losing/being injured in the leg is the thing which cements The Narrative, which we know is Fate, and also a Curse full of Ghosts, and locks the characters into that path.

Leg is also about Identity, often, and disguise or lying about the temporality of identity (ie lying about your past self, lying about your present selves, having interchangeable selves). It is a key component of Sacrificial Rituals which, again, The Narrative

There is more to Leg but I get worse at attempting to explain as I go on however I think I remembered to tag my Leg Posts last time I talked about this so hopefully we shall be able to find them in the tags!!

John Silver losing his leg BECAUSE he chose to be loyal to Flint and the crew for the first time in the story and then being told 'the crew will take care of you' and feeling that loyalty affect him in return, Resulting in the crew sacrificing the leg in order to save the rest of him is something that can actually be so personal.
