Sliiiiight nitpick, but I feel like Namco always has Mari Shimazaki make her most basic designs when it comes to Tekken 😅
She's made Bayonetta, of course, and she's even made some killer designs for Leixia's 1P and also Ivy's and Tira's SoulCalibur V 2P designs but her work for Tekken?
Josie is literally just the Filipino flag and an ugly haircut.
Kazumi is just a woman in a kimono, worn in the way dead people wear it in funerals and an old-time-y haircut, but don't forget the bows! Because no woman in Tekken should look older than 16!
And now Reina, she is admittedly her best Tekken design so far, I like the hoody, but the hair is kind of a mess and it's otherwise just too... Plain.
Like, I don't know, I guess she doesn't have to go all out all the time but I was genuinely, unpleasantly surprised when I heard she was responsible for Josie's look and while it's nowhere near as basic with Reina, it's too pre-Tekken 4 plain for me.
(ksdlhfjl not me sending the ask to the OP by mistake 🤡)

Natsu was doing her best, she really was. Compared to how she was when she was still a young child, the ninja apprentice had achieved limits in her patience that she once though unattainable after training under Taki's stern eye and strict regiment. She believed that by now, she was on her way to being able to win a staring contest with a stone.
Arahabaki, on the other hand, was even more stubborn than Natsu. As to be expected of a snake demon, it was not exactly fond of any kind of restraint, and any of Natsu's own attempts to wrests its grip from her hair, the only form of expression it currently had, ended in failure.
That was why Natsu had Leixia there, doing her best to make it behave. Leixia was going for a Mongolian hairstyle, with braids tight against the scalp in rows that trailed across her head and hung down her back. The tightness of them was to ensure that Arahabaki would be held still, but that there was eight braids was a way to help bargain with the demon, supposedly appealing to its true form of a man with eight snakes attached at the waist. Surely, a compromise would help?
Using two of the longer braids to tie into a bow and hold the rest of it in a high ponytail, Leixia clapped imaginary dust off of her hands before getting a steel traveling mirror out of her bag for Natsu to take a look at what would hopefully be her new, standard hairstyle. Natsu took hold of the mirror, holding it at different angles while turning her head to get as good of a look at everything as she could.
"It's perfect," she said with a satisfied smile. "You're the best, Leixia."
Just as Natsu turned around to give her girlfriend a hug, there was a flash of rainbow light, blinding the both of them. When the spots finally were out of her eyes, Leixia made a gasp, and then a sigh and groan of disappointment. Natsu's expression went flat. "...He undid it, didn't he?" she asked, and Leixia nodded.
Never had Leixia dove so fast as when she tackled Natsu to the ground, who was loudly cursing in Japanese as she drew Mekki-Maru to finally lop her hair off.
leixia was name dropped (kinda) in libra of souls. really curious to see what this means for xianghuas relationship with kilik, considering that leixia is wujins daughter, but also what this means for lingyus relationship with xianghua going forward
soulcalibur characters as textposts (and messages): part 2
On this day 11 years ago, it was announced that Ivy and Tira were receiving alternate costumes in Soulcalibur V designed by Bayonetta's character designer Mari Shimazaki. Concept art for the alternate costumes, alongside Leixia's default costume, is shown below.

Soul Calibur 5 - Leixia:
"Here's another new character that is based on a previous one. Leixia is the daughter of Xianghua. She may look a lot like her mother, and even rock the same type of sword, but fortunately, her moveset isn't 100% Xianghua. Sure, she shares a lot of the same moves, but she doesn't feel exactly the same as her mother. She manages to have a good amount of unique moves, so she doesn't feel exactly like a clone. I may prefer Xianghua, overall, Leixia is not a bad character neither."
