Poisson Citron
🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠
The Cobia, aka, the lemonfish, has large pectoral fins that are normally carried horizontally, perhaps helping the fish attain the profile of a shark. Fibrous villiform teeth line the jaws, the tongue, and the roof of the mouth. They attain a maximum length of 78 in and a maximum weight of 172 lb. It is a very curious fish, showing little fear of boats.

Baked Halibut with Lemon
Baked halibut topped with a mayo and lemon crust that turns golden and slightly crispy in the oven. The fish stays tender underneath while the topping adds tang and richness that doesn't need much else.

#3839 - Mustelus lenticulatus - Spotted Estuary Smooth-Hound
AKA gummy shark, lemonfish, rig, spotted dogfish, pioke and pīokeoke. The binomial means 'spotty weasel' - William J. Phillipps (1893–1967) was the New Zealand ichthyologist who described the species, in 1932, but weasel has been a name applied to small pointy sharks for many centuries.
A Triakid shark up a meter-and-a-half long, found on the continental shelves and in estuaries around New Zealand. where they feed on small fish and invertebrates, crushed with their flattened teeth.
During spring and summer they congrate in sheltered inlets and estuaries to breed, returning 11 months later to give live birth to 11-or-so baby sharks (do-do-dododo). The newborns and adult males remain in the inlets for several more months.
After mating, adults remain in the harbour during the remainder of the summer months.
Decapitated and washed up on the beach, poor thing - probably because these sharks are very edible and a popular species in fish and chip stores.
