#Repost @jazz_kaleidoscope ・・・ Born In Houston in 1939, Joe Sample started the piano early and show enormous gift for improvisation. It is in High School That Joe met Wilton Felder and Stix Hooper and formed a band called then "The Swingsters" That will become the Jazz Crusaders and evolved to the Crusaders in the 70's. The Crusaders success has allowed Sample to lead 2 other careers: a solo one, with albums at the end of the 70's such as "Rainbow Seeker" or "Carmel" and a studio session artist working with an eclectic palette of artist: Michael Franks, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, BB King and many others. Joe Sample had used early on the electric piano, New then, giving him a lot more freedom to infuse some funk into his jazz. joe will use that inspiration on the piano as well developing a highly recognizable light touch on the keys. Joe Sample passed away two years ago at 75.
