Lance nodded. He and Leon had spoken at length about it -- after Algiers, when they returned, at breakfast when the others weren't up yet, in snatches here and there.
Now I'm not saying that Lance and Leon natter like mother hens over tea in the mornings but...

"Put that away," Leon grumbled, but when the bin made the rounds, he wasn't shy about taking a piece for himself.

Telling Arthur that the team would cover for him was telling him something he already knew.
I know this bit is like about the Angst™️ of Arthur being Merlin's C.O. so it ~can't ever happen~ but I just love the little note about how much Excalibur have each others backs. Like it hadn't even occured to Arthur that Excalibur wouldn't cover for him because of course they would, they're his family.
Arthur exchanged a conversational look with Leon that repeated conversations they'd already had multiple times:
"Do you want to, or should I?"
"No, go ahead. Privilege of rank and all that rot."
"Are you sure? I've done it so many times."
"If you insist."
Leon got up with a sigh, stretched theatrically, and reached over the table to whack Gwaine upside the head.

"It's not their fault," Leon said, falling in step beside him, keeping watch out along the lines and on high.
"Yes, it is," Arthur spat out. He spared a hostile glance for one of the army boys, red-faced, gasping for breath, and looking like he was going to pass out any minute now. He cursed under his breath and broke formation only long enough to roughly grab the soldier and shove him toward the Humvee, gesturing for someone else to take his place running alongside. When he got back, Leon was smirking at him.

If you don't know anything at all about Arthur Pendragon, this quote is all you need. He expects the best and he always aims for the best, but underneath it all he's got such a big heart.
"Nope." Leon said, chewing noisily on a bag of crisps. That the crisps were over a year old and recovered from the mouldy pantry of an abandoned house didn't seem to deter him.
