SO HOW ABOUT THAT HUNGER GAMES AU? :D
Premise: The Olympian family are immortal and eternal. They are more gods than men at this point. Eons ago, the best of them - Hepheastus, Athena, Apollo and Hades, invented a cure for death, and instantly rose to fame and power, lead by their Father - Zeus.
Immortality does not come without a cost however. A very, very steep cost. Money which most people could not afford.
The thing about generational wealth is that it is not really generational if only one generation has it. All the time. Forever.
The wealth gap grew wider, wider and wider until the masses started calling for blood.
Immortality - they said - is ethically immoral. Everybody must die one day. There were revolts and rebellion and fires and explosions.
The Olympians realized that agelessness doesn't necessarily mean that you can't be killed. Poor, poor Hestia. The most peaceful of them all.
And hence to appease the masses, the Hunger games were born. A game set to eliminate one singular immortal every year. A triumph for the common people! An incredible feat to achieve. Eventually, perhaps, the ranks of the immortal might dwindle down, and wealth might actually be passed down a couple of generations and people might die!
But of course, the Hunger Games were organized by the very same rich and powerful immortals they were designed to kill.
Through countless legal battles, the rules and regulations of entry were bent and twisted and wrapped and molded - until the people who could enter included demigods, nymphs, dryads, centaurs. The term even eventually came to encompass Clear-Sighted mortals and the legacies of immortals...
These days, actual immortals are almost never reaped. Even when they are, someone usually volunteers to take their place (the volunteering system was introduced by the immortals ofc) There are many people who will exchange their lives for riches and fame for their family.
Then the world is thrown in uproar when Olympian Apollo is reaped and it sticks. One of the most powerful of the Olympians -- one of the ogs who worked on the death cure alongside his son, Asclepius.
An Olympian has never entered the Hunger Games before.
May the odds be ever in your favor, Olympian Zeus says with a delighted smile.
