My ideal job would be to live from my creative output. Novels that sold well enough to keep me financially afloat, essays or podcasting, something of this nature. A career in the arts 😂 but yes for sure.
Otherwise, I love being a librarian. Libraries are neutral, free spaces where everyone can come and get what they want and need. You can help yourself in life, you can indulge yourself in piles of smutty romances, you can learn how to be a better parent or fix your own pipes. You can sit there all day when it’s cold outside and no one will ever move you along. I spend my day reading. Books to kids, helping them find books they want to read. Showing them the world and opening their eyes to new parts of themselves. We learn things and have fun. Part of my job is to spend thousands of dollars of other people’s money buying whatever books I think look fun and interesting. And then it’s Fun Friday and time to play with LEGO! The feeling that comes from helping someone get what they really really want is indescribably satisfying and I wouldn’t change it.
As for bosses, I’ve actually had much more positive experiences with men than women. I prefer to work with women in all circumstances, but it hasn’t been great. I’ve always assumed men are a bit cowed by the fact that I’m beautiful and intelligent, and women are resentful and want to put me in my place. I’m not really joking— women are taught to hate other women and to try and keep them down. If you don’t work to unlearn that, it can cause some serious problems and I’ve been on the receiving end of them for sure
