A rusalkais a temptress of men. She likesto drown people, sometimes to tickle them, and she is absolutely happyto live such a life. But from time to time she decides to choose some lucky guyand begins to live with him in his house. She can even give a birthto a child or two. Inthe end, she always leaves her husband with children and debts,because drowning and tickling of humansare more fun than human life.

Also a rusalka is jealous and touchy, and can easilyharm her spouse.

Advantages:Perhaps, she is the most beautiful woman in your life.

Flaws:She is not the most harmless woman in your life.

A zmei (also zmey, zmij, serpent, dragon)is a seducer of women. He loves challenges and to diefights, so he chooses a witch or a hero’s/tsar’s wife/sister.Some of zmeis are married to the daughters of Koschei (“IvanBykovich” / ”Иван Быкович”). At least one of zmeis was senseless murdered on a date(“Dobrynya and Marinka” / ”Добрыня и Маринка”). A zmei loves visiting women at night, andgo away with the first shout of a rooster.

Advantages:He will eat all your enemies.

Flaws:Keep him away the heroes, it’s not safe for everyone.

Alsothere is at least one the bear/human hybrid, and his name is IvankoMedvedko (tale “Ivanko Medvedko” or “Ivanko Little Bear” / “Иванко Медведко”). Theboy is too smart for this world.

Some of Russian folklorists and researchers suspect that the real name of the bear from Russian fairy tales is Veles. But this is only an assumption.
