Tumblr already has enough writers leaving due to unnecessary comments. So please THINK before you comment on peoples writing!
Remember this is a side hobby, meaning they do not get paid to do this. Writing is something that lets them get a way from their reality and let’s them dive into the world of fictional characters and fantasies. They give us these amazing stories FOR FREE!!!
The age requirement on tumblr is 17+ that means we ALL are old enough to scroll, block, filter out something we don’t like.
Also It’s ok to shut the fuck up sometimes 😁
I have so many things I want to write. They are all my precious LOL.
Right now I’m so flipping excited about this original project that’s Hades/Persephone based. Which is probably the kiss of the death for publishing. I have a feeling it will go straight to the slush pile but even so, I’ll put it up somewhere because I love it so much. It incorporates a tiny bit of my Greek God fic verse but is an original meet-cute. And I Just love these two. He’s trying so hard to seduce her and she’s all yeah I”m on to you.
Anyway, just a note that you can find that one nugget of writing you love and there’s nothing wrong with being happy with it without anyone seeing a word.
Which I gather is not acceptable because fandom demands writers throw themselves on the pyre of criticism. We are not allowed to love our work until fandom declares it acceptable. Which after 10 yrs of fic writing and posting, I find sad.
Let’s make 2021 the year it’s okay for writers to have a little self love, be proud, and promote their stuff . Also, let’s be appreciative of readers even if they don’t comment. Readers need compassion and acceptance too.
I’m seeing this shit happening again so let me say my piece, under the cut because it’s kinda long:
LET.WRITERS.WRITE.
It’s not their place to teach out morals. Do NOT let a piece of work be your moral compass.
Authors will, often, explore insidious ideas about right and wrong, will show you things you don’t wanna see or acknowledge and they will write about unpleasant things. Let them do it. Authors don’t exist just to give you a cute piece of fluff. Let them write what they want.
Thing is: always be critical of what you’re reading, of what media you’re consuming. See it’s flaws for what they are, see the insidious morality for what it is. Be critical of the work, by all that you hold dear and most holy in the world: BE CRITICAL OF THE WORKS YOU CONSUME.
But also let me be perfectly clear on something: 9/10 times an author is fully aware of what they’re portraying, maybe they’re writing an abusive relationship, or they’re writing rape, or even writing the darkest piece they have ever dared to write, but 9/10 they’re aware of it and not only that, but they don’t personally support what they’re writing.
You may even ask: “but why write something you don’t believe in?”
To explore, to explore the world as they know it and people’s reactions as they know it. To explore how someone else would react to a certain X situation. You can absolutely write what you want and, at the same time, don’t believe and/or condone anything your character’s doing; even if it’s necessary for storytelling purposes.
Not sure this is making any sense, considering it’s nearly 2am here, but let me conclude this rant by saying:
Writers are there to explore your worse fears in a safe environment, they’re not there to offer you moral support. Let them do it, while being critical of what you’re consuming.
what is it with the current trend in fandom of telling people what they should ship, how they should ship, and demand content to cater to your personal tastes? that's it, i'm calling this the fandom temperance movement; people making everything absolutely miserable for everybody so they can feel indignant and self-righteous and above everybody else. let me ship what i want to ship. let me write what i want to write. i'm letting you ship your ships and write your fics, and though i might not like them, i am always glad to see content, even if it's not my cup of tea. i would like the same respect, for me and for every other content creator out there. please.
do you just write for ateddie now smh
Correction: I have always written for Steddie, I have only just started to actually upload it to Tumblr because I am a little afraid of the Stranger Things fandom (I know, stupid, but my goodness). And I'm not sure who you are wanting me to write for, Anon, but I have always been a multifandom writer.
Why would I limit myself to one fandom when writing for various, is so much fun?
Do better, don't be rude.
