Lethifolds - AKA in the HP world, you cannot even trust your cuddly blanket not to kill you.
«...The problem is not the essay, Headmaster,» she sighed. «You need to either aim better with the theme or to get an Essay Jar like every other professor.»
...Did he even know what an Essay Jar was? Oh, well... He would discover its utility soon, if he didn't. God, she could very well picture her Ravenclaws storming across the whole Hogwarts in that very same moment.
She looked at the wizard for a long moment. She knew she should have considered herself lucky. She knew she had massively failed as a professor. But-
Half a smile crept on lips despite herself. «Many students in the history of Hogwarts made shortminded decisions that could have extraordinarily badly,» she said, tapping lightly with a finger on the dark creature resting on her shoulders. The Lethifold stirred just a bit, a movement only her could perceive, that was its way to say "Yes?". «And almost at every turn professors failed to control the situation. And yet, here we are.» She nodded towards the door. «They will go places, Headmaster. And they will love you forever after today.»
...Did he even knew what the love of her Ravenclaws meant? She always had mercy on him, after all... Oh, well. Another thing he would discover very soon - poor man.
🦅 - baby Basilisk
(She's like... Bruh. I know how lucky I am. First hand knowledge. You were my partner in crime when I was a student. Because let's be honest. If he was a professor and she was a student, he 100% closed both his eyes to school rules. And, you know, law.)
"But the essay should be themed to go along with the crime committed, no? So it is an educational opportunity as well as a punishment - though as Ravenclaws apparently like essays, I may have to - an essay jar?" The confusion was tangible in the man's voice.
"I assumed students like you were a once in a career type encounter," Voldemort quipped, also cracking a small smile. "It was a talent I could not bear to squash. And it all worked out in the end - look at you now. Published in all the major magizoology and dark arts journals, tenure at Hogwarts, involvement in many of my...side projects. Though I suppose they are not exactly side projects anymore..." He turned down to ponder both the baby basilisk and Nagini - a serpent both feared and loved by the students at Hogwarts, depending on whom you asked. "And yet, it turns out many students have that same capability, if you are allowed to harness it. Which is what you have certainly been up to. For better or worse." He sighed. "Still, if a student dies, I very well may have to fire you. And I do not want to do that. Bad publicity, quite a lot of paperwork, hiring a replacement would be a headache...have you ever hired anyone?"
Tom looked at the cloak draped across Eagle's shoulders. "How long do those things live, anyhow?"
That’s Not a Lethifold!
Ok so I just saw a post somewhere about the scene where Newt and Tina are standing in the streets, as something black comes floating through the sky towards them. It looks like a long piece of material. Newt then tries to protect Tina from this thing.
Someone theorised that it was a lethifold and that the only way to defeat one would be to use a protonus spell on it. They mention that Newt as a magizoologist recognises the creature and tries to save her. I can’t remember their exact words.
Firstly that if I remember correctly is not a lethifold according to the script. It is Grindelwald’s calling card, in the same way Voldemort has his dark mark. This is Grindelwald’s idea of a dark mark type thing. Only it’s not really a symbol. He was calling his followers and giving them a message I think. I can see why someone would think it was a lethifold, it looks like one for sure. But lethifolds glide along the floor and are mostly seen at night, and will only attack a person while they are sleeping. They do not glide through the air, in broad daylight.
Newt being a magizoologist as the original author of the post observed that he would have known that. Newt knew it wasn’t a lethifold, if it had been one, he would have known to pull out his wand and use a potronus charm. He wouldn’t have blindly just stepped forward and stood there. He wasn’t stupid. He would have died if that had been the case. He knew it wasn’t a lethifold, but also felt it was a threat, but what kind he wouldn’t have known because it wasn’t a creature he was protecting Tina from. So no that theory is incorrect.
I may have to bring out my copy of Fantastic beats out, both the script and the text book version to fact check. But I’m sure that was definitely Grindelwald calling for his followers and not a lethifold. The information that I remember of a lethifold don’t match what we’re seeing here. Sorry to bust a few bubbles. If I’m wrong then I’ll eat my words. But for now the theory of the post on this going around, I will not take at face value.
This week's Beast Of The Week is the Lethifold! Something to consider when planning your next tropical vacation...😱
Lethifold: Lethifold’s are heartless creatures that are native to the tropics. These creatures have black skin and are approximately a half inch thick. A Lethifold appears to all, as a black cloak that glides outside at night looking for its victims. These hooded creatures stifle their suffers while their sleeping and erase any single trace of their existence. After these creatures have digested a victim their bodies will become a little bit thicker. There is only one known way to protect yourself against a Lethifold attack which includes, casting a Patronus Charm and it will sneak away. There has not been that many Lethifold attacks recorded because Lethifold’s do not leave any trace of their victims presence. The only known survivor of a Lethifold attack was Flavius Belby in 1782, who was on holiday in Papua New Guinea. He awoke to a Lethifold trying to kill him and he was only able to fight it off casting a Patronus Charm.
Uh help
What's the difference between a Lethifold and a Dementor?
Fantastic Beasts Theorie
So in the trailer we this flying cloak that (because of the way the scene is cut) seems to come from Credence. But I think that this cloak thing might be a Lethifold. A magical creature that looks like a cloak , comes at night and chokes the victim to death by simply lying on the victims face. The only defence against the Lethifold is the patronus charm. It si one of the most dangerous monsters in the HP univers. Ans who is known to have a good hand with especially dangerous monsters in the time the movie takes place ?
Newt .
Not to mention that he had a Nundu just casual walking around in his suitcase. Which is OFFICIALLY THE DEADLIEST CREATURE IN THE HOLE WORLD!?!
So yea I hope we get to see a Lethifold
