[Blog Update] 7.7.19

Hello Everyone!  Thank you so much for being patient with me on my very unexpected and long hiatus.

I am glad to announce that I am returning to this blog!  Life happened and I was very busy this year trying to take care of myself and my studies as I have just wrapped up 50% of my undergraduate career so I hope you guys & gals understand.

[Some Updates on Myself & My Blog]

Let’s Learn Hangeul launched about 3 years ago as a small passion project of mine to help myself learn more Korean and share the knowledge/journey with the community on Tumblr.  I love learning languages.  It’s been so much fun getting to share my journey with you guys and watch my blog grow, and so inspiring to receive overwhelming support from a wonderful community who supports my interest in studying foreign language.  In terms of my blog, here are few small changes to look out for:

·        name/url spelling correction from “hangul” to “hangeul

·        new banner inspired from the old one

·        new avatar/icon designed by my self! (I’m lowkey proud it almost looks like my own airlines or something haha)

[New Business & What to Expect]

The revamped look is only the beginning.  After doing some clean up and reflection, I realized that one of the biggest challenges in producing my own content was finding infographics/designs for the content I wanted to put out.  But, I realized that as a result of working in some pre-professional student orgs, I developed a skill set to start developing my own content and make is as original as I want it to be.  This means that moving forward, I hope to produce:

·        content centered around monthly/weekly themes

·        vocabulary lists/grammar & sentence structure lessons

·        history/entertainment/holiday bits

I am still getting used to the new program and self-design, and each of my posts will now contain a LLH (Let’sLearnHangeul) mark as well.  I am in the process of making more content so please be patient!

Once again, thank you so much to everyone who supports my blog and continued to breath life into it while I was gone!  Let’s continue making great progress, together!

Eyyyy I know I’m really late on both but Tumblr turned 10 and we reached 10k followers!!!

I just want to say how thankful I am to continue to receive all of your guys’ support ok my blog! When I started this blog a year ago, I couldn’t imagine that so many people would share my love and interest in foreign languages but I am so elated to see that there is so much interest and that there are in fact so many people who share my love and passion for language! I hope that you guys can continue to learn from my blog and will continue to support me as I continue our language learning adventure!

내가 신경 쓰여?" I heard this phrase in a interview with Vixx and it apparently means "starting to care about me?" But when u literally translate this it, is "i have written nerves?" How so?

Hi there! I was pretty confused at that second translation until I went and confirmed my suspicions on the culprit: Google translate! Just so that you know, the first translation is correct. Typically, 신경 means to worry (ex: 신경 하지마: don’t worry!). So, in the sentence 내가 신경 쓰여, the best translation would be: Do you worry about me? Or Do you care about me? Hope this clarifies your question!

Today is a very special day for me, because it marks the day that my blog has gained 1,000 followers!  Just two months ago, I began this blog because I wanted to increase my fluency in Korean and wanted a space where I could be creative and keep all of my learning materials in one place.  I never really expected to even reach more than 20 followers, so I am very pleasantly surprised and also motivated by each and every one of you who follow my blog!  Getting questions in my inbox and messages gives me a sense of accomplishment and I really feel that I am getting something out of learning not just on my own and by my own self, but also through anyone who supports this blog and gives me tips and insights as well.  If my blog is able to help not only myself but you guys, that makes me really happy and I hope that I can continue to put out content that everyone who has interest in learning Korean can benefit from and use!  Thank you so much for all of your support, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our journeys in learning more Korean!  Thank you everyone!!!~

hi! so im trying to learn korean on my own but its getting a little difficult... can you help me out? like im practicing my hangul but like pronouncing each syllable its a bit hard. i know i should speak to a native korean speaker but i dont have any knowledge yet! what im trying to say is like.. do you have a kind of structure i should follow? or maybe a should keep practicing hangul in order to recognize the characters so i can move on to grammar and such..?

Hey there!  Learning Korean on your own can be a daunting task, especially since the grammar structure can sometimes be so different compared to native English speakers.  Gauging from what you described to me, I’m guessing that you might be pretty new at learning Korean (correct me if I’m wrong haha).  Personally, I would suggest that you first master the alphabet (consonants and vowels) and make sure you understand what each one sounds and looks like.  After doing that, practice putting different combinations of vowels and consonants together to get a feel for character placement.  Once you feel like you have really gotten the handle on writing and reading the basics, I would say it would be helpful to begin learning a few words everyday.  They don’t have to be hard, but definitely try to build up vocabulary.  One thing that helps me is after learning a new word, I try to make a small sentence out of it so that I remember its meaning and how to use the word!  If you have any friends who speak Korean, it would also be helpful to double check anything you are confused on/with.  I hope this was a thorough answer, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask!  Good luck!!~
