i will never be convinced that lucas' storyline in season 4 of st is not a tragedy. a young black boy feels as if he must give up the interests that he has held all his life and that he loves and that are a part of him and become a part of something more socially acceptable just so that he wouldn't have to get bullied and treated horribly and he wouldn't be the victim of racism anymore...oh my son. having to be on the same basketball team that fell all over themselves trying to impress billy hargrove the year before, the man that attacked him and hated him for the crime of being black and wanting to befriend a girl because he doesnt want to worry about getting hate-crimed in the street. everytime someone boils him down to playing basketball a flower dies he would much prefer to be playing dnd and indulging in the interests he's had for years with the friends he's had for years but he feels as though he must play basketball because basketball is safe and basketball offers protection and social capital and basketball players dont get accused of being in cults and dont get beat up by men 5 years older than them

oh dustin henderson you and your abandonment issues and your resignation to getting abandoned by your friends and your ability to form bonds where you would kill and die for someone in eight months... season one wheelerson conversation where dustin is fine, not sad or angry, completely resigned to the idea that mike doesn't and couldn't see dustin as his best friend and season two henclair conversation where dustin thinks lucas is going to replace his role in the party with max and his desperate attempts to seem cool and interesting by taking care of a demodog and season three. just. dustin's desperate hoping that his friends would respond and his despondentness when they dont and his first instinct to a surprise party being violence bc he cant believe that his friends would throw him a surprise party and his utter sadness when his friends leave him behind on weathertop and his eagerness to show off something cool that he did so he can prove that he is still interesting and useful enough to be friends with them...oh walter henderson when i catch you...

stonathan college roommates au except its just that one reddit post with that guy who thinks he's being homophobic when really he's just in love with his roommate...

stonathan are randomly assigned roommates in a modern au. jonathan tells steve "oh btw im bi" and steve's chill with it, of course.

except, over the course of the year, he suddenly becomes...not okay with it.

jonathan and steve fake flirting with each other in a way that makes steve's stomach swoop in an odd way, like he's dropping on a rollercoaster...but that doesnt mean anything! obviously. its obvious that doesn't mean anything, right? right?

steve getting this weird flash of...something every time he sees jonathan with another guy. and its weird, really, because he doesnt quite know what that means...oh.

steve's a homophobe.

he doesn't want to be a homophobe, but its like his body wont listen to his mind!! he likes jonathan! it's not like he's disgusted by him(really, he could never be disgusted by jonathan byers, not in a million years, with his swoopy hair and that grin he has whenever he's talking about lighting or composition or framing and cinematography in a movie and the way he just cares, so much for everyone and everything around him),but he just gets this, this feeling, in his chest, whenever he thinks about jonathan with another guy- oh god. maybe the homophobia only shows up with jonathan?

stranger things fic where none of the core four can realize that they are queer because any time one of them mention finding a guy hot the other three go "oh yeah i agree!" and they each think the other three are Straight, so they think that that means nothing.

like. mike going "haha yeah ralph macchio is hot" and dustin, lucas and will all go "OH MY GOD YES" and they talk about that for thirty minutes. and mike thinks "well obviously this is normal straight activity. because all my friends are Straight. obviously. i dont need to have a crisis about this"
