So, I've ended up in a position where I'm leading Kabbalat Shabbat, Ma'ariv and maybe also Mincha next month, none of which I actually know, for an event because I'm in charge of religious education for our youth group and no one else knows it either. Does anyone have any resources? Recordings maybe? I can only find cantor versions which are not helpful. (My shul is Conservative and entirely ley-lead. I'm not entirely sure which tunes we use as Kabbalat Shabbat is only every other month or so for some reason)

Welp, ten years ago I was the person on call for last-minute and emergency torah reading, but I haven't lived places where that was an opportunity in a long time, but my congregation just reached out and was like "Hi, we're down a reader for Yom Kippur afternoon, can anyone pitch in" and I said okay, but even when I wasn't comparatively rusty I didn't know High Holiday trop basically at all, so I have a recording from the cantor and almost exactly 48 hours, during the course of which I also have some day school kids coming to set up my sukkah (very cute fund raiser) and since they are teenagers, sometime between then and now I will have to buy a large number of snacks.

It is Monday September 23. Rosh Hashanah is Monday September 30. I am, right now, after 6pm beginning more than a cursory read through of my 5 verse long parsha. I REGRET ALL MY LIFE CHOICES

im leyning this week at ohel moed and i have been assigned the “lo bashamayim hi” portion and  i   am........ this is amazing?

So I'm in charge of organizing the monthly Shabbos minyan for teens, right? And I kind of got this job without any actual guidance, as the last people who had been leading it all left without teaching me any of the things required to organize it. But, okay, I'm a b'nei mitzvah tutor, it can't be that hard.

Well, so it turns out there's approximately 30 people who can do Torah service, 10 that can lead Shacharit, 2 for Musaf, and all of one person for P'sukei D'zimra. Who texted me that he couldn't do it about an hour before Shmini Atzeret.

And this is how I ended up trying to teach myself how to be Gabbi Rishon and lead P'sukei, all in one day and with no actual resources. It could be going much worse, but it is definitely not sometime I would recommend attempting.

ok i have (again) reached the stage where i can leyn most of my part from the actual scroll without looking at my cheat sheet, but today's the day when i can't seem to hit a single high note and through some mysterious alchemy every katon becomes an etnachta

i still have four days to practice so whatever but RRAAAAAAAAAA

The common good, or the general welfare, ear plugs and upcoming noisy holidays each merit mention now, since it will soon be Erev Purim, or the night before the noisiest holiday on the Jewish calendar, aka the Jewish Halloween, but not like the Day of the Dead.  More like the costume party of the year, with noise-makers. Ok, Purim schpiels, the Book of Esther, sometimes complete with macrame tree…
