btw, it is totally possible to write someone with they/them pronouns without it sounding or reading weird/clunky,

Julie came out of the cell a few moments later, a concerned and thoughtful look on her face.
“Oh no.” they said, “No, no, no, we are not adopting her into the community this quickly! Everyone else had to go through tests, we cannot just let her in.” Julie cast an unamused look in their direction.
“What'd I tell you about doing that?” She said.
“Sorry, not sorry, we're not bypassing the tests for her.” They crossed their arms and waited in defiance.
“I wasn't thinking that we'd bypass all the tests for her, also i'm in charge, you don't get the final say.” Julie raised her eyebrow, “Just because your my advisor doesn't mean you get to make the decisions.”
“No, but I can advise you to make the better ones!” They sighed sharply, “and what do you mean 'not all'?” Julie snorted and glanced into the cell, gesturing for them to follow her. ”
