1 In the ten years since its dedication there had been dissatisfaction with the access to the Children’s Room. In 1983-84 a stairway between the main floor and the Children’s Room was built. At the same time the Children’s Room was enlarged by expanding into areas that were formerly contained the furnace and custodian’s room.
2 In 1987 during the holiday season, the Library began an adopt-a-book program. By donating $10 individuals could choose a book title, cassette, record or microfilm on a list to be bought. If they were willing to pay full price they could obtain a book not on the list and a book plate would be placed inside the cover of the item chosen.
3 In 1983 Harry Dundas Mahoney of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, a self-educated engineer, formerly over Ogdensburg bequeathed $173,913.54 to be used for the purchase of civil, mechanical, electrical and construction engineering books.
4 In the time period between April 1, 1897 and March 31, 1898 the Clark property was obtained which would become the Library Park. The fence and surrounding hedge wall would be removed and walls would be constructed.
5 In March 1988 the Friends of the Library purchased a water fountain for Library Park.
