hi sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you have any advice on how to curb my disappointment with season 4? because mappa doesn't deserve all the shit they're getting and I feel like my own negative emotions make me part of the problem and idk what to do about it. sorry to bother you.
No, no, it’s not a bother at all. I understand this feeling. You want to express your reasonable disappointment without adding to the unhinged chorus of rage that you’re hearing. I get that.
I don’t know what your specific complaint is, but for many people disappointment usually involves a favorite manga moment getting glossed over, a facial expression changed, or a characterization that’s shifted. I know that can be upsetting. What helps me is knowing that it doesn’t change the manga. This is an adaptation. It’s for a different audience. It’s not for me. The manga is mine.
The character designs this season are another major change and also a source of criticism. For someone like you who makes videos, trying to blend scenes from different seasons is going to be a nightmare. We can all logically understand that it’s a new studio with a different style and that the animators are overworked, not to mention that making anime during a pandemic is a challenge. I’ve seen a lot of people mentioning those things and saying we should be grateful that we’re getting anything at all, but if you view the quality as lackluster I can understand wishing they’d waited for better circumstances to adapt this final season.
If you’re wanting to talk about disappointments and criticism, I think the best way is the Feedback Sandwich method. Start and end with a praise and keep your concerns in the middle. Focusing on what you enjoyed along with what you didn’t will make your ideas more appealing to read and maybe will make you feel better as well since it’s so easy to focus on the negative only.
I’m sorry you’re disappointed with the season but know that it’s ok to be disappointed and it’s ok to talk about it. I really enjoyed listening to @manerein, @alinajames, and @drunkhelos talk about their disappointments along with their praises of the second anime episode. It helped me appreciate the manga even more and at no point did i think they were being unreasonable. Listening to their praise was especially heartwarming because in light of their criticism I knew it was sincere. It was a fantastic discussion. I’d love to see more discussions like that one.
