@the-first-potato​ sent in a request for a $100 Licia list (we talked in DMs and agreed to skip on Teferi’s Protection for budget reasons). The list I put together actually came in under budget for once at $95.58, going off the lowest prices on TCG Player at the time of making this post.

Licia is an interesting commander, one who I initially overlooked in her printing. White black tends to be the base colour pair for a life gain deck, usually that reaches out into blue as a third colour. But I haven’t seen many WBR or WBG lists with that theme. On top of wanting you to gain life, Licia is an aggressive attacker, which pushes her towards aggro/voltron strategies instead of pillowfort/tax strategies you might see with a commander like Oloro.

Starting off, we want to make sure we gain enough life that Licia is ever castable. However, we also need to be applying constant pressure. This lead to the inclusion of aggressive lifelink creatures like Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Divinity of Pride backed up by more standard includes like Dawn of Hope and Rhox Faithmender. There are a few other win conditions in things like Felidar Sovereign and Aetherflux Reservoir if the game goes long, as well as the Exquisite Blood Sanguine Bone Combo, both of which are strong enough to include on their own.

Licia is a strong creature when she first hits play as a 7/7 and growing by 3 every turn. Interestingly, she doesn’t care as much about haste as other commanders. She takes 3 attacks with haste to kill the first player but only 2 without (7 + 10  + 13 vs 10 + 13 for commander damage). That said, we can up that clock with a voltron package. Cards like Grafted Exoskeleton and Silverblade Paladin increase the clock, while cards like Rogue’s Passage and Whispersilk Cloak help Licia actually connect. These cards are also great to support the other creatures in the list if something happens to Licia that stops her from getting in there.

@collection-of-beings​ sent in a request for a Treeva list for $50 or less. Naturally that means I came in over budget. This list comes in at $50.59 going off the lowest prices on TCG Player at the time of posting, but you could totally get it under $50 by cutting a land or something. 

Treva is part of one of my favorite cycles in mtg there are 10 of these dragons between the shard aligned ones in Invasion and the wedge coloured ones in Planar Chaos. Crosis offers some opressive hand attack, Darigaaz can quickly kill people from burn, Dromar can repeatedly bounce the board, Rith is great for tokens and Treva... Gains life. 

I’ve personally built 8/10 of these dragons with the exception of Darigaaz and Treva so this was fun for me to finally cross off my list. Darigaaz I’m coming for you next!

Initially I knew I wanted to make use of cards like Well of Lost Dreams and Drogskol Reaver to generate value off of Trevas ability, even going so far as to use Aetherflux Reservoir as a wincon. Often times most people at the table will be playing green or blue, so Treva will often be gaining potentially upwards of 10 life per swing. All of the dragons in this cycle tend to lead themselves towards combat focused strategies, Treva is no exception. Utilizing various voltrony enchantments and Equipment like Shield of the oversoul and Spirit Mantle. My favorite little interaction in the deck is Sunbond with Treva letting her grow absurdly large between attacks.

Since the deck already wants to run several enchantments in cards like Steel of the Godhead and Boon Reflection the deck is running a small enchantress package to make sure there’s always a hand full of stuff to be doing. Kestia acts as a back up voltron target should something unfortunate happen to Treva.

In the end this list is able to threaten some extremely aggressive unblockable attacks 1 or 2 shotting people while gaining potentially hundreds of life thanks to various doubling effects like Rhox Faithmender and Beacon of Immortality.

We received a request from @qualityanchorpolice to build a $50 Krav and Regna and this list comes in at $44.18 with the lowest prices on TCG player (with the lowest prices available at the time of posting)!

One of our readers @quxyun had some [great ideas] for the list which were very similar to my own plans for the list <3. I ended up building an Aristocrats list making use of token producers to feed Krav, and life gain to trigger Regna.

Aristocrat strategies tend to be pretty powerful in commander, they keep the board clear while systematically whittling away at each opponent. This list seeks to generate huge amounts of value off of creatures dying. Cards like Elenda and Endrek Sahr provide tonnes of bodies at once to throw into Krav or Butcher of Malakir. Other slower but more systematic token generators like Crested Sunmare and Regal Bloodlord make tokens every turn. This list doesn’t seek to go infinite with Blood Artist triggers, but instead to gain enough life that Aetherflux Reservoir can laser people into the ground. I originally wanted to include the  Sanguine Bond Exquisite Blood combo, but it was a bit over budget.

Given the amount of passive token production in the list, I thought including Divine Visitation and Anointed Procession felt like strong includes. Casting Krav into a Endrek can either lead to 5 4/4 angels or 10 thralls to immediately sacrifice to Krav. 

This type of deck is historically pretty powerful, this reminds me of a less combo focused Teysa, Orzhov Scion. If the budget allowed for it I’d include Gravepact and Dictate of Erebos!

My entry for this week’s Inventor’s Fair Theme was just to surprise them, so I just kinda did something I thought was neat with a mechanic I made for something a long time ago.
