Full Name: Carey JessGender and Sexuality: Cis Female, Bisexual (no preference)Pronouns: She/HerEthnicity/Species: Mobian Dog (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)Birthplace and Birthdate: Born in a hospital in the Southern Baronies. Her birthday is March 20. Guilty Pleasures: Horror movies, sleeping around, sweetsPhobias: Abandonment, Large bodies of waterWhat They Would Be Famous For: She’s already somewhat infamous for that botched job that got Hugo in prison and shook up the city’s criminal underground for a while, making finding people who will work with her difficult. Other than that, she’s well known for being a skilled pickpocket, and for her intricate understanding and ability to navigate the city with ease. What They Would Get Arrested For: Larceny, arson, affray (starting big fights in public; she often does this at bars for kicks), shoplifting, blackmail, burglary, bribery, public intoxication and nuisance, pickpocketing, vandalism, jaywalking... she’s a crook, whaddya want from her? OC You Ship Them With: Not an OC, but I ship her with Nack the Weasel in an AU.OC Most Likely To Murder Them: I mean... Hugo does do just that in the end of her main verse. Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Horror/Thriller flicks! The gorier and scarier, the better.Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Romance in general.Talents and/or Powers: She has firework-related powers and can also conjure a sparkler-like effect at her fingertips! As for talents, she can pick most locks, hot-wire cars, is an expert pickpocket and is pretty handy with a knife. Why Someone Might Love Them: She’s bubbly, goofy, engages in a lot of fun banter, causes trouble, and be a lovable mess of a person. If she loves you, she’ll come through for you no matter what. Lifts up the people she cares about and has moments of genuine kindness, such as when she stopped a certain lost punk from taking his own life and let him crash on her couch for a few years while he figured things out.Why Someone Might Hate Them: She can easily be annoying, she’s immature, she can be an asshole more often than people think, she’s reckless and other people get hurt because of her antics, she starts fights for fun, usually doesn’t regard the well-being/feelings of anyone she’s not close with and she’s irresponsible. How They Change: Carey never really becomes a better person - in none of her verses does she hang out with someone who would be a positive influence on her. Most of the people she surrounds herself with - especially @nuttyrabbit‘s Gambit, her best friend - enable her as much as she enables them. But what she does learn is that she’s worth being loved.
Her parents were negligent and emotionally manipulative people who used her and then discarded her when she was still a child. She spent years being passed over in a orphanage/shelter before running away to Empire City, where she was taken in by more people who only sought to use her and then left her/planned to rid themselves of her when she stopped being useful. Experience has thus taught Carey Jess that she has to constantly break her back for others to be worthy of love, lest they leave her when she stops being useful.
She also learns to be a better crook and improve her skills for what it’s worth! Why You Love Them: I’ve had this character since 2006- I literally grew up with Carey, she’s been a part of my life since I was young.
I love having a female character who is just so deeply flawed as a person, and a lot of her flaws and insecurities are deeply personal to me, and I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a lot of me in her. She’s my baby and I love writing her, especially in her friendship with Gambit. She’s an amalgamation of my interests and a love letter to all the things I adore in a character.
