headcanon time: the Herondale household tells the tale of Benedict Lightworm every christmas because Will will never let the Lightwoods live this down.
I'm imagining Will faithfully gathering up the kids around the christmas tree every year just so he can tell the story once again in very dramatic fashion. everyone's rolling their eyes because they have heard the story a million times by now. they know the drill. but this is Will's time to shine; he will absolutely not let anyone sneak out. so the kids take their cross-legged seats on the floor as Tessa observes from the sidelines, forcing down giggles as Will tells the tale with great passion and frantic gesturesー it would not be wise to encourage him on this. she chimes in with a few "that is not exactly how that happened, William, don't feed the kids this nonsense," where Will gets too caught up in his enthusiasm and lets his imagination warp certain aspects of the story. everyone applauds when he's done (or: because he's done). Will takes a few bows and makes his rounds to kiss everyone on the cheek. when he reaches Tessa, she leans in and says: "I hope you enjoyed your christmas gift." Will's smile is radiant as he wraps her up in his arms. "best christmas ever," he whispers against the crown of her head, where he plants down a soft kiss.
this exact scenario repeats every year.
