New like button animation!

This gif of like button confetti animation is from my test blog, but the animation is live on this blog too!

This is also a good time to mention a small bug with like buttons. If you’re on chrome and having problems interacting with blogs with custom urls:

go to chrome://flags/#same-site-by-default-cookies and switch "SameSite by default cookies" to "Disabled”

how do you add a like and reblog button at the bottom of a post since some themes dont have it?

The easiest way is by adding {LikeButton} and {ReblogButton} in the html where you want them to appear. You can change the colors and sizes by doing like this:

{LikeButton color=“black”} (can only be grey, white, or black)  

{ReblogButton size=“30”} (goes up to 100)

this is pretty limited, though, and I don’t really like the default like and reblog buttons, so:

Here’s a tutorial for adding a custom like button because doing that is more complicated than reblog buttons because it involves iframes and you’d have to use an image or svg in order to actually customize it. here’s a tutorial on how to make a text like button

For reblog buttons I don’t actually use the button at all I just use {ReblogURL} since that gives me a lot more freedom with how I want the “button” to look and is much easier to customize than the like button, because unlike the like button, this is a link.

if you want it to open in a new tab you can do this

I use a svg icon for this blog’s theme, but other times I’ve used font awesome or linear icons. Sometimes I just use plain text that says “reblog”. Depends on what the theme is and what style I want.

Hello. I have tried almost all tutorials, but I really dont know how to add the like button to your accesible 3.0 theme. It just doesnt works. Please helppp.

The simplest way is to use {LikeButton}, which is the default like button, but adding a custom like button is more complex. I don’t know what tutorials you are using, but this has always worked for me

But are the like buttons not working or are they not showing up at all? You can’t like your own posts anymore so keep that in mind too.

hello! I am using your wayfinder theme (which I love a lot, it's beautiful!!!) and I'd like to add a button for liking a post. is it possible and how do I do that? if you explained it somewhere already I'm sorry, I was unable to find anything like that ;; have a nice day!

Hiyah! First I wanna say I am SO sorry for this late message. I haven’t been able to come back to coding within the last month (maybe more??) and I’m glad I can finally answer this question.

Unfortunately I don’t help with adding like buttons to posts just because it requires so much coding. Like, I’m STILL surprised tumblr makes it so complex to add customizable like buttons. I try to add them whenever I can, sorry I didn’t add them to Wayfinder! Now that I have more time, I’ll see if I can add one to it within the next few days. Thank you and sorry again haha!

Hello! I love your themes, it was really hard to choose, but I went with the animal crossing theme and it doesn't have a like button only a reblog?? Is it possible to add one or is Tumblr's new like button code preventing it? Or is it possible to change the normal like button heart to one of the ac images for the links like the reblog and note counter??

That’s because like buttons are for some reason MUCH harder to incorporate into themes than reblog buttons, and during the time of making Town Pass Card I didn’t know how to incorporate like buttons. reblog buttons are simple links like any other. But like buttons are a type of script that makes it a lot more difficult to manipulate into themes. I’ve learned to manipulate the like button a lot more since I’ve posted TPC theme, but unfortunately that’s more along with fontawesome symbols (like on THIS theme) rather than with images like TPC would need. So basically yes, the Tumblr’s like button code prevents it in a way, and I wouldn’t know how to incorporate an image with it. I’m so sorry!!

"#I LOVE CAS IN SWEATERS OR SOME REASON" tbh my reason is just the thought of Cas being all warm and cozy and comfortable and looking very nice and cuddly ;_; idk man sweaters have something in them, they feel like cuddles and nuzzling and snuggling and nice evenings and I just really like the thought of Cas having nice warm things ;_; (also you can knit them yourself and Cas having hobby such as knitting is MY JAM \o/ Cas being passionate about things is everything to me)

OMFG THAT’S IT THAT’S THE REASON.  

I especially love when they’re like, the ugliest sweaters ever because Cas wouldn’t care much for style and what not because like you said, he just likes to be warm and comfortable :’)  

And have you noticed that everyone always associates Cas with like, comforting cute and fluffy things?  Like, bunnies and cats and guinea pigs and sweaters and stuff? AND THE KNITTING THING OMFG.  HE WOULD TOTALLY KNIT.  And like, I always see him as having a major thing for gardening for some reason?  Like, I feel like he’d just love to sit with nature and relax and ugh ;_; and plant all kinds of pretty flowers and veggies...

So I got the custom like button to work, but I've noticed that when you visit pages on the blog with specific tags, the like button won't work on any pages after the first one. Is there a way to fix this or is just one of those things that there isn't a fix for?

Hm, that's a great question, because I had not noticed this before. 

To be honest I have no clue, it could be something wrong with the implementation of the button (but I've successfully implemented it with pagination and infinite scrolling, and I still face the same problem as you, now when I tried liking stuff on my blog with pagination + on page 2 in a tag), or it could be something with the like button. 

Have you tried the same problem with a regular like button? At the top of my head I don't think it should matter, really because in this way, with the custom like button, we are still using the regular like button as our "base", so they should work the same way. We have only altered the look of the button, not the function of it.

I don't really have the time at the moment to look into this more thouroughly, but I will try to solve this problem when I can, and post something about it. If you want to test it out, I'd recommend you to use a regular like button and see if it behaves the same way as the custom one. If they don't I'd say there's something wrong with the implementation of the custom button, if they behave the same way (the regulaur button fails to like on second tag page), then I'd say there's something buggy with Tumblr and send them an email about it.

How did you get your custom like button to work? I have tried everything to get mine to work, but it doesn't.

Hello there! I have actually linked the source I used a couple of times, and it's on every theme document that I use them on. It's an amazing Stackoverflow answer and you can find it here (the first answer by mikedidthis).

Also, like buttons don't work on private blogs, so if you're working on a password protected blog, that might be the answer.
