Me? Picking favorites? Never.
It’s hilarious to me that Lestat talked about collecting fledglings like Labubu dolls but at this point had at least five of them in the show canon. He had like five in the books too in TVL and makes even more later. Sir you are the problem.
The author purposefully made Marina's and Shizuka's actions incomparable. The point isn't to argue who is worse or who is more evil, but that nurture also plays a part in nature. Shizuka and Marina both grew up in horrible environments with shitbags parents. Marina with a dad who uses her as a mediator/playing piece between him and his wife and a mom who physically, emotionally, verbally abuses her. Shizuka with a dad who cut all contacts financially and physically to start a new family, even pretending to not know her after years of no contact, and a mom who neglects her physically and emotionally, ignoring Shizuka's bruises and injuries, making Shizuka cook her own meals for who knows how long.
They've done horrible things to get what they cherished most back, Marina wanting her old parents back and Shizuka wanting Chappy back.
It's not who is more evil or more deserving of punishment, but more like Marina and Shizuka deserved better parents, or somebody like Junya, who should have helped and guided them.
So story time. I’m on a competitive weightlifting team (for fun) and that means I spend a lot of time around many very straight men (which truly could be its own story series) but today we had some downtime and were bored so we were talking about opinions we have on shows and one of them turns to me and goes, “I bet you have some really good Phineas and Ferb takes,” because I am nothing if not, incredibly predictable. So I gave some of my milder hot takes (because I did not know how safe the space was) and he goes, “cool, mine is that Perry and Doof are in love with each other.”
Y’ALL. THE WAY I SWIVELED AROUND SO FAST. Like I need you guys to understand this is a man who does Olympic-style weightlifting at the national level, has a full beard, and religiously eats a pound of beef a day to meet his protein goals. I was like Owen what the fuck and he was just sitting next to me, grinning, and watching me vibrate at a speed known only to autistics as I struggled to string together two coherent thoughts that weren’t holyshitholyshitholyshit.
And when I finally managed to get a thought together I expressed how shocked I was, and this man just goes, “well of course I ship them, I’ve seen the show.”
