Why would DSP fake album sales to be lower than they actually are from a business point of view? Aren't high sales a sign of stability to shareholders? Or were they doing it to spur fans to buy more??? I just don't see how that would make sense...

Usually the most common reason a company will fake lower earnings is to avoid paying tax (and in Korea, spin the money out into some other subsidiary for someone high up to pocket as personal money).

DSP doesn’t really have to care as much about shareholders as SM, YG, JYP etc because they’re not publicly listed - that is, their shares can’t be as freely traded since they’re not in the stock market. The shareholders are likely to be people very close to the company, since the shares after being issued, would have to be purchased almost directly from the original holder.
