Hello there I hope you don't mind me asking but do you know how to tune because I learned how to turn a ust into a vsqx but I don't know how to tune it
@lilcharmyb
I’m not really an experienced Vocaloid user, nor am I really much of a tuner, but I hope that what I can say will help anyway.
Other than japanese, when you enter the lyrics, you should go through all the note phonetics to make sure it sounds smooth and fluent. The way that words are pronounced is different between speaking and singing, and there’s a lot of connections that just happen anyway. For example, in English, “want you” sounds more like “wan choo”.Also, in English words like “little” and whenever there’s only one T/D between two vowels it turns into a really short sound. Vocaloid doesn’t have this phonetic but knowing how to fake it can improve the fluency of the vocals. Just shorten the first note slightly, then add a really small note in the gap. Remove the T or D and in the tiny note change the phonetic to [- d]So, for the word “little” it would look like [l0 I] [- d] [U l]
The pitchbends can be kind of intimidating compared to the way that UTAU does them. I usually set the pitch bend sensitivity to 4, which means that going all the way up or all the way down will take me four steps away from my original note. Then, whenever I want to do a pitchbend, I can just mentally divide the space into fourths. If I want to go one step down, just draw one fourth lower. This math applies to other PBS settings but 4 works for me most of the time.
I’ve been experimenting with drawing the vibrato by hand, after seeing a Circus-P livestream. It’s just drawing a squiggly line in the pitch bends. Then, in the dynamics, following the same squiggles (while having them go downwards a bit) can enhance the vibrato by changing the volume of it over time.
Sometimes I mess with portamento timing a bit for certain transitions. You’ll get what it sounds like by experimenting with it.
And... that’s about it I guess. Most of the time when I’m working with Sonika I’m really just trying to fix her mistakes, by swapping phonemes around for clearer ones, or adjusting the gender or opening to make her sound more consistent. In the end, the thing that really makes her sound good is the mixing.
