“You’re going to behave, right?”
He wasn’t always like this, that wasn’t to say he was ever good but when he was younger he wasn’t bad-or maybe you were just too naïve to notice back then. It wouldn’t be surprising considering you’d been too naïve to see just how bad he was until he dragged you into the shadows along with him. For months you thought a hero would come and save you but they never did. They didn’t look for very long either, Dabi made sure you knew that. Your picture was only in the paper for a month or two before being replaced by news about somebody breaking into the U.A. After that your picture was never in the paper again, the missing girl forgotten because the future heroes were in danger.
“Hey.” There was only a slight change to his tone but it pulled you from your thoughts.
Looking up at him you nodded, “I am.”
Content with your response the two of you continued walking. It was your first time being out in public for so long, the first time since he snatched you away. With so many people around now would be a perfect time to scream for help, to try and run like you had so many times before but you didn’t or rather you couldn’t-yet.
Every so often you’d catch people looking your way but it was impossible to tell if they were looking at Dabi or yourself. Sometimes it seemed like they were trying to place you but you doubted they’d be able to. Actually with so many eyes glancing your way you couldn’t help but take a step closer to your captor, suddenly self-conscious. Before attention had never been something you struggled with but now it felt odd being around so many others. Sometimes it felt odd having so much of Dabi’s attention too. When you used to try and run he’d lock you away in a smaller room with enough food to last you a week or two before coming back. When you tried to fight..inadvertently you brought both your hands up to your shoulders. Despite being covered by his oversized shirt you knew his hand prints were there, burned into your skin for now and ever. Your shoulders weren’t the only place you’d been burnt but they were the last and perhaps that’s why they stood out more. Why they seemed to bother you more. They were from your last attempted escape.
Still, despite all the times you tried to run or even fight him he continued to love you-or at least that’s what he said. He’d clean any wounds he gave you and offer you all any affection you wanted when releasing you from your solitude. It was his fault but..unlike everybody else he was still there unlike everybody else. When you use to hide in the hopes he’d leave to go look for you? He’d tear up the league’s base searching for you and some twisted part of you now found that reassuring.
“Hey…isn’t that the girl that went missing a few months ago?”
“Call for heroes.”
“The league of villains is here with a hostage, get somebody!”
You couldn’t help the small smile that made it’s way onto your face hearing their whispers but if you could hear them it meant he could too and Dabi wasn’t an idiot.
“You’re still planning on behaving, right?” He questioned, “I hope you know what’ll happen if you try getting yourself rescued.”
Rescued. Despite the word seeming foreign you took a deep breath before letting out a blood curling scream.
As expected any and all heroes nearby immediately responded and on as Saturday around noon there were more than enough around to hear it. You heard Dabi mutter something but his presence quickly disappeared from your side only to be replaced with the presence of several different heroes seconds later. One, three, six, twelve. Twelve all in one place and you couldn’t understand why they were all here. The park was always busy on the weekends you remembered that much but twelve heroes seemed excessive even to you-after all there were probably so many people in secluded areas who needed help too.
Strangely with Dabi now gone and blending into the crowd chaos seemed to erupt from around you. The heroes asking if you were alright and multiple witnesses butting in and explaining who they saw you with moments ago. It didn’t take long for the heroes to recognize you and call for an ambulance and police.
You’d screamed for help so much when he first kidnaped you, had you not been loud enough then? Despite how long it’d been you could still remember how much your throat had burned. Almost more than his actual flames.
The heroes questions fell on deaf ears as you scanned the crowd in search of him.
“Where’d he go?”
“Is he still around?”
“All civilians need to clear out immediately!”
“It’s safe.” Placing a gentle hand on your shoulder one of the heroes gave you a small smile, “We’ll keep you safe now.”
Their hand there felt wrong, “Don’t touch me!” You snapped, stumbling back and falling in the process.
“She’s shaking.” One of the quietly said to another, “Poor thing I can’t imagine what she’s been through.”
Your next shout died before you could get it out, distracted by a small blue flicker form the side. Snapping your head to the side you found him standing there with a grin. Quickly activating your quirk you clapped your hands together instantly swapping your and Dabi’s spots.
The second the heroes registered what’d just happened it was too late. Blue flames ignited and consumed the heroes and any nearby civilians as well. Pained and terrified screams erupted from around you as all civilians started running in the opposite direction, no longer wanting to stay and see what was going to happen but you stayed in place, your focus entirely on Dabi now.
His flames chased after everybody evacuating and consumed any nearby structures and within a few minutes his flames and the two of you were the only thins left.
“Dabi.” Your voice was weaker than you intended it to be but nevertheless he heard it. Grinning he walked over to you and grabbed your hand before pulling you up. Wrapping your arms around him you buried your head in his chest and held him tightly, “I couldn’t find you.”
“I already told you I wasn’t going to let you go.” He chuckled and grabbed your chin, forcing you to look up at him, “I didn’t know you were such a good actor. Should I be worried you’re trying to make a fool of me so you can try running again?”
You shook your head, “No.”
“Good.” Spinning you around and placing his hands on your shoulders he lowered his head so it was resting on your shoulder as he admired his and your work, “How sad, twelve heroes and none of them lasted more than a few seconds.”
To the side of the two of you a black portal opened. Sighing Dami looked at it before muttering something about Kurogiri always lurking nearby.
“Let’s go.” He finally said after a few minutes of questioning how the man was seemingly always everywhere at once. No doubt he was keeping an eye on Shigaraki and all the others now too.
Nodding you followed Dabi into the portal though you made sure to glance back once more at the damage, the same smile form earlier making it’s way onto your face once again. You couldn’t remember when you fell in love with him, you couldn’t even remember how you’d fallen in love with him. It was wrong and corrupt but that really didn’t matter now because there was no going back and that was fine with you. So long as Dabi was here, with you, that was fine.
