Washing Hands (洗手) by Lin Ke (林科). Performance Video. 2015.
Lin Ke, born in Wenzhou, China, is a graduate of New Media from the China Academy of Art. The artist mainly works with the internet, new media and digital interfaces to explore the human condition in the age of digitization. His approaches are deceptively simple, yet very clever in playing with common user interfaces and desktop programs. He won the first Pierre Huber Art Prize in 2014 and exhibited his works at Beijing’s Gallery Yang, Shanghai’s BANK Gallery and the 2016 Shanghai Biennale. Lin is also a member of the Double Fly Art Centre, a collective of nine contemporary male artists.
Washing Hands uses a picture of hand washing found on the internet. The performance follows Lin’s random mouse and keyboard movements with traces on the picture.
