In this episode, we asked a couple of HR manager, Salma Candra Dewi Candra of Global Millennial Group and Muhammad Hafizh I. of StudentxCEOs East Java, experting in their roles and experiences about crafting a job-winning CV.
1. Generally speaking, how actually a good CV is?
According to Salma, a good CV should be detailed but also concise. Detailed means that CV is pages of paper about you, so make yourself stand out. The HR will look at your experiences and the relevancy to your preferred position. Meanwhile to Hafizh, a good CV shall cover the 5 main elements: a self-summary, the applicant's contact, experiences along with their description, skills, and latest education details.
2. What are the common mistakes that applicants make with their CV? And how they should address it?
Hafizh's intake about the common mistake in a CV is that applicants only write down their position or role in their organization without elaborating both of their job description details and achievements. To Salma, a CV common mistakes includes unnecessary element, such as too much graphics. It would be good if applicants put an official qualification of their expertise. For example you're in a business level expertise of english speaking and writing with specific score of TOEFL or IELTS.
3. From the HR perspective, what are the important things to notice in a CV?
Salma believes every company and HRD has different objective, but experiences are mandatory. Showcase your experience, prove that you're eligible for the position. Make it neat and brief. Salma always look at people's experience first. However, experience doesn't mean it should always be professional. You can start small, such as student organizations around you, volunteer experience, event experience, or any experience that is necessary. Why? Because in the company, you will work in a team and it is an important value for HRD’s consideration.
Corresponding Salma's opinion, Hafizh told us that it's fundamental for applicants to be able to deliver their experiences, details, and achievements to strengthen their CV. Simply put, Hafizh suggested that you may try to write your experience with countable format, such as "Acquired 10 partners in the first 3 months" to keep it measurable for HR.
Psst, a bit tip:
if you're in your first or second year of study, try to find experiences that relates to your preferred job. It will make you easier to pass the CV selection process!
