After all this time studying from home, are you starting to feel bored? It is undeniable, many of us are starting to experience a decrease in learning motivation. Procrastination is a huge challenge, one that you cannot overcome without discipline. Yes, it is your greatest enemy when you are working from home.
Procrastination is just a momentary pleasure. As with most habits, it is possible to overcome procrastination. Here are some tips to follow to boost your productivity and to avoid procrastination while working from home!
1. Break down your work into little steps
Part of the reason why we procrastinate is because subconsciously, we find the work too overwhelming for us. Break it down into little parts, then focus on one part at the time. If you still procrastinate on the task after breaking it down, then break it down even further.
For example, you’re currently writing a new book on “how to achieve anything in life”. Book writing at its full scale is an enormous project and can be overwhelming. However, you can break it down into phases such as:
(5) Writing Chapters #1 to #10,
Soon, your task will be so simple and seem very manageable.
2. Create a detailed timeline with specific deadlines
After breaking down your works, then create an overall timeline with specific deadlines for each small task. This way, you know you have to finish each task by a certain date. Besides, it also creates the urgency to act. Plan your entire work-week, which includes planning non-work related activities too.
A cluttered mind and a cluttered workspace can reduce your productivity. The idea is to de-clutter the space. When you start in the morning or end at night, keep things in its place. Don’t stuff your table with too many things. An organized space will help you think better and make sure you don’t craze yourself out with the overload of work.
It’s important to rid yourself of all potential disruptions before you begin working so you don’t get needlessly sidetracked halfway through your task. Turn off your email and social media, and avoid sitting anywhere near a television while you work.
If you sleep irregularly and not enough, this will affect your concentration. The less rest you get, the faster your focus will disperse and your work will also become less than optimal. Manage your time, don't let your work time be done for sleeping.
