NGL, I'm kinda fascinated by that person going, "but the middle ages were devoid of art, they only knew misery". Like, do they think that as soon as the Roman Empire Fell (whenever you want to classify that), everyone below the aristocracy just went, "welp, that's it, lads, we gotta hang up our hat for a thousand or so years." No art! No carvings! No boy ever carved a pretty spoon for his sweetheart, no shepherd girl ever braided a pretty collar for her dog, no father ever made his baby giggle with a whistle, no farm-wife ever decided to make her mother-in-law's pie look nice, there were absolutely no village plays (a shock to everyone surnamed Death because their ancestors played Death in those plays...) no village church was ever loving crafted and painted, no one made ribbons, or painted their walls with local ochre paints, or made decorated chests that were family heirlooms, no one ever dyed their clothes anything other than BROWN AND DARK AND GRITTY. Until colour was re-invented after the Battle of Bosworth and everyone remembered that they could do pottery and make textiles and sing again. Everyone. Across the entirety of Europe. Because this is how people work. Yes.

omg hahahaha YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO HER IT'S THE BEST!! I weirdly already wrote out a tennis manifesto for @lazarus-james but basically it's the perfect sport ... you take a bunch of gangly beautiful freaks and one by one you make them stand across a net from each other ... they play the most beautiful game in the world with a scoring system that will take you a full calendar month to understand ... the audience has to be quiet while the ball is in play which!! yes please!!

but as with any sport the fun is in the narrative and tennis has some of the best rivalries in the WORLD e.g. the Big Three (djokovic, federer and nadal), the williams sisters, sampras v agassi AND NOWWWW whatever is happening with the new blood — carlos alcaraz v jannik sinner (my boiiii), iga sviatek v aryna sabalenka v (dare I say it??) coco gauff — and a whole cast of another characters that span from lawful evil to serving cunt (it's a tennis pun!!!)
